He brought class to everything he did. Loved him in "Hunt for the Red October," "Jurassic Park," and "The Dish" (Australian film about the Apollo moon landing). Rest in peace. Condolences to his family.

I became a Sam Neill fan after watching Reilly, Ace of Spies on PBS. One of the most tense and intense performances based on a real spy. (One of the few PBS series worth watching. You can still get it on Britbox). Surprising that this article didn't mention Reilly This was before Jurassic Park.

Thanks, #4. I was going to mention the charming "The Dish" as well, but I thought no one would remember it. It's a small film, but a wonderful true story about the astronomer responsible for making sure the Australian dish receiving signals from the Apollo astronauts was working. There's a very funny scene where the Prime Minister comes to visit him to explain what his motto is. I thought of it when I read this sad news and mourn the passing of a wonderful actor.

An upside-down American flag isn’t a sight most Americans expect to see over the Fourth of July weekend. Yet that’s exactly what happened at a Somali Independence Day celebration in St. Cloud on July 3, where an upside-down American flag flew alongside the Somali flag, drawing condemnation online and a blistering rebuke from a city council member who called the display a “disgusting show of disrespect” toward the United States. Video from the celebration, first posted on the Rocks and Cows of Minnesota Facebook page, quickly spread across social media, where users condemned the inverted American flag and criticized event sponsors, including U.S. Bank.

Democrats have many problems, not the least of which is an inability to understand, and for some the refusal to accept, basic economics. If they did, there wouldn’t be proposals to raise the federal minimum wage to a preposterous $25 an hour. House Resolution 8555 would “place the federal minimum wage on a durable path toward a living wage,” requiring “large, highly profitable corporations to lead the transition.” Under its yoke, large employers would have to raise their lowest wage from the current $7.25 an hour to $15 an hour on Jan. 1, 2027, a more-than-double spike that would shock the market. For decades, the Democratic Party exploited—but also restrained—its more liberal, anti-American activists. However, as they have become outrageously progressive, communistic, and violent, they have lost control of themselves, and now they are taking over. Democratic Party operatives thought they could maintain control, and for a while, they succeeded. The efforts of aggressive progressive partisans succeeded in taking over the DNC in 1972. They promoted progressive George McGovern for president, and the Democratic National Committee embraced some of the most radical left-wing positions.

On Saturday former Clinton advisor James Carville took to YouTube and delivered what purported to be a “Presidential History Lesson.” It was a fairly typical Carvillian rant, yet quite revealing about how worried the Democratic establishment is about the damage the DSA insurgency is doing to their party. He begins his diatribe with the 2000 election and insists that every Democrat loss from then on was caused by leftist attacks on the centrist candidates the party nominated. Consequently, George W. Bush won in 2000 because Ralph Nader attacked Al Gore from the left.
