The Obama Presidential Center finally opened to the public on Friday (not that you care), and the verdict from the internet was swift and brutal. People are calling it a "monstrous insult to architecture," a "concrete nightmare," and simply a "monstrosity." Social media has spent the week comparing the thing to a trash can and a dystopian movie set, which, having seen the photos, feels generous.
It’s hideous.
Naturally, the man who helped design the building's most mocked feature has a different take. Chris Bird, the Washington structural engineer who designed the upper portion of the center's towering centerpiece,

"It's a cult of personality, and all these years later, it’s still going strong."
The Left is still enamored of BO but the size of the cheering squad has become much smaller. BO's legacy is one of failure and corruption, and BO can't blame senility like Bidet can. BO came out of his first election with a huge mandate and proceeded to burn it all up with BOcare, which turned out to be as big a disaster as everyone predicted, bloated, inadequate, and destructive of actually caring for people. It lingers only because of quisling Roberts and you can smell its rot as a constant reminder of what NOT to do about health care.
Now it has a matching visual symbol of decline and the results of the imposed power of government. The only thing missing is the imperial stormtroopers amassed around outside it.

Didn't The Who prominently feature the design on an album cover in 1971, and "honor" it appropriately?

I have to admit it is an ugly building. It also ruined the neighborhood around it.

As a structural engineer, Bird should refer aesthetic questions to the architect. It might be bold in a structural way, but it's a huge finger to the community and doesn't anchor anything.

It's painfully obvious to the world that Chris Bird is no Howard Roarke (The Fountainhead - Ayn Rand). His defense of his work proves the point. Any amateur psychologist can see that the concrete tower is an accurate portrayal of Barack Obama himself, stark, ugly and in-your-face. It's only saving grace is that it's in Chicago, a place that I will never go again.

No amount of hyperbole can change the fact that the Obamalisk is just plain ugly. It is beyond Brutalist architecture. The “architect” should be ashamed.

It's the "Obama Don't Care" Building, the Obama Got No Taste Building
I simply love how the "Last" African-American pResident is so enamored with his own meaningless words and 2-3 word slogans that he emblazoned them on the highest point of its exterior, and its interior apogee however, the words are displayed in such manner that none can make heads or tails out of what they say... which is very much like hearing him say them too. Some Chicago residents actually thought the words were in Latin! Yeah, that be "Black Latin" to you rubes. ROFL

Just wait until the design and final product of the Obama Center is matched up to what Trump will design and have built!

I finally found pictures of the interior. Seems sterile and oddly configured. There's no rhyme or reason for many of the displays. Some of the walls have Obama's trite phrases painted in giant letters. If we ever visit Chicago again we'll stick to the transportation museum which is far more interesting.

This monstrosity is obviously inspired by a Multi Story OUT HOUSE.
Obie lives on first floor, guess where the plumbing from all the upstairs ends up!

Re #4: Who's Next (1971) is the greatest rock album of all time. The great Pete Townshend wrote in his autobiography that, in retrospect, he doesn't like that album cover. He thinks it smells of urine. The Old Testament differentiated between men and women, among other ways, by saying that one of the two sexes could urinate on a wall. The Who is officially male. Pete is taking the album cover too seriously, though. That photograph was classic, as is the music inside. Mass micturition on useless obelisks is not a useless activity. At the very least, it is welcome relief.

That door on the top of that tower is where the Iman can come out and perform his call to prayer.

I caught a few seconds of a video made of the opening ceremony, and I was suddenly expecting that largish square recess on the bottom to suddenly slide up, and Darth Vader march out with a company of StormTroopers, followed by a few "AT-AT"s.
That architect is a real Howard Roark...
(Nah, Just joking : He's not even a Peter Keating..... More like Ellsworth Toohey.)

It should be called the Hate America, Western Civilization, and God Center. It could also be referred to as The Tower of Babylon Revised: We Still Hate God Center brought to you by the one and only lite-bringer barack hussein obama and his band of cons.

An ugly building, built upon previous park green space, to be supported by the taxpayers after the library refused to contribute to the maintenance, requires $30 to enter, along with an ID that the Dems say are impossible to obtain. A fitting tribute. I eagerly await the street gang graffiti.
