Clarence Thomas triumphs — and his legal
vision, too

This month, Clarence Thomas became the second-longest-serving justice in Supreme Court history. That milestone would be notable for any jurist. For Thomas, it marks something more: the vindication of a constitutional vision that, for decades, was caricatured as eccentric, angry or unserious — until the court, and the country, began catching up. The occasion comes just as Thomas has again demonstrated why his tenure matters. In this session’s Louisiana v. Callais, the court held that Louisiana’s race-driven congressional map could not be justified by a misconstrued Voting Rights Act. As my colleague Dan Morenoff has explained,

I wonder if Thomas is still driving that big motorhome around the country? Every time he stopped for gas or food, he was surrounded by everyday folks that wanted to shake his hand. He’s the smartest guy on the bench.

We love Justice Clarence Thomas. He is a fighter for righteousness. We remember Teddy Kennedy trying to destroy him during Thomas's 1991 Supreme Court confirmation hearings. So who won that battle? Kennedy is dead and Justice Thomas is alive and a national treasure. God bless, protect and keep our beloved Justice Thomas.

The White House vowed “no dust, no dollars” for Iran on Sunday — asserting that unless the Islamic Republic gives up its enriched uranium, it will get no sanctions relief — as President Trump tapped the brakes on forecasting a peace deal that would reopen the Strait of Hormuz. Trump revealed Saturday that the US and Iran were close on a memorandum of understanding that would get oil flowing again while allowing 30 days for nuclear negotiations. The plan unleashed panic among some Republicans and Israel backers — prompting Trump officials to clarify that no deal was imminent,

As the country celebrates a long weekend with time at the beach, family cookouts, or maybe even 15% off at a Memorial Day sale, Rep. Pat Harrigan, R-N.C., is asking Americans to remember the price that has already been paid for their holiday weekend. “Memorial Day is a time of sadness, and it’s where you remember those who actually gave their lives in service to our country,” Special Forces veteran Harrigan told the Daily Signal. “It’s a day of remembrance; it’s a day of somber sadness.”

In less than a week, the U.S. attorney in Miami supervising the probe of Obama-Biden era government weaponization secured indictments against Cuban communist dictator Raul Castro and an alleged money launderer for Venezuelan strongarm man Nicolas Maduro. But it was Jason Reding Quinones’ indictment against one of his own former federal prosecutors for trying to steal a sealed, classified report from Jack Smith’s investigation of President Donald Trump that may have sent the loudest shockwaves through government.

Everyone’s angry with Donald Trump. It’s true that things are getting ragged with just over five months left until the midterms. The president’s agenda is being stymied in the courts and in Congress by bloody-minded Democrat obstructionism, and by a handful of lily-livered naysayers in his own bare-majority party. His poll numbers are as bad as they’ve ever been, apart from a rough patch in the aftermath of Jan. 6, 2021. The war with Iran has hit gas prices and exacerbated the cost of living. It may be heading to some sort of deal, but cheerleaders are thin on the ground.

We've got a positive update on the story out of Orange County, California, regarding that leaking chemical tank, thankfully: On Saturday, a leaking chemical tank prompted the evacuation of tens of thousands of people in Orange County, California. The evacuated area encompasses parts of six Los Angeles metro area cities, and the incident may well lead to the tank melting down in a thermal runaway. Fortunately it appears that failure, rather than explosion, is the more likely option, although neither is what you would call "good."

Political commentator Scott Jennings gave the Iran debate a much-needed dose of plain English after he received a briefing from a senior Trump administration official. Jennings' central point was simple: President Donald Trump used force when force became necessary, then paused further strikes when diplomacy had a chance to save lives. Trump's critics have spent years calling him reckless, impulsive, and incapable of restraint. Now he's showing patience, and many of those same voices still can't bring themselves to admit what sits in front of them. Trump has said talks with Iran remain active, but he has also warned his team not to rush into a weak agreement.

"If in fact as a result of these negotiations to end the Iranian conflict, our Arab and Muslim allies in the region agreed to join the Abraham Accords, it would make this agreement one of the most consequential in the history of the Middle East. Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and Pakistan joining the Abraham Accords would be beyond transformative for the region and world. It is a brilliant move by President Trump." Graham wrote on X.

Iran has reportedly agreed to give up its stockpile of enriched uranium as part of the deal announced by President Trump Saturday. Tehran has agreed to a statement pledging to relinquish its cache of highly enriched uranium — believed to be enough to build 11 nuclear bombs — the New York Times reported, citing two American officials. The disposal of the highly enriched uranium, which Trump refers to as “nuclear dust” was a major sticking point in negotiations between the United States and the Islamic Republic. While Iran fought to address the status of its nuclear stockpile after an agreement to end the war had been reached,

The redistricting wars have resulted in Republicans gaining a modest advantage in the upcoming race for control of the House, and legal setbacks to Democratic countermeasures have resulted in pivotal political leaders voicing their frustrations in increasingly provocative ways.

Somewhere in Tallahassee, Ron DeSantis is probably grinning ear to ear as Florida Democrats descend into yet another round of intraparty warfare. The fireworks are happening in the Sunshine State’s 20th Congressional District, and it is all thanks to none other than Debbie Wasserman Schultz, the former Democrat National Committee chair who managed to make nearly everyone angry, including her own party’s activists. Florida Republicans drew a new congressional map earlier this year under DeSantis’s leadership, leaving most Democrats fuming while conservatives celebrated a fairer representation of the state’s red shift. The GOP already controls twenty of the twenty eight congressional seats, but the updated map could hand them several more.
