The Atlantic magazine recently announced the People’s Choice for the 2028 Republican presidential nomination. “Trump Voters Like Marco Rubio More and More (And J.D. Vance Less and Less)” the headline proclaimed, a ruling that deserves respect considering that this is the magazine that has spent the past decade ferociously denouncing Trump as a “racist,” “fascist kleptocrat,” “warped,” “corrupted,” an “authoritarian,” a “demagogue,” a “xenophobe” and a “liar.”

Comments:

I remember when Rubio was all in with McCain and Graham on amnesty. I haven't trusted him since. I do think he's doing a pretty good job as SOS

I have not forgotten that TWICE Rubio tried to push through a universal amnesty bill. Twice. I do not and will not forgive that. FTA: "He claims to have dropped his signature issue – an across-the-board amnesty for illegal aliens – but his record of betrayal on that issue suggests he’ll keep the donor class knee-deep in cheap labor forever. (Yup, he’s John McCain in sheep’s clothing.)" Yes, THAT. I don't trust Rubio. Never, ever will trust him.

Ann Coulter has criticized Donald Trump at various times, especially over immigration policy and his conduct. Some widely cited anti-Trump remarks include: * “Trumpism without Trump is the winning formula. We’re keeping the policies, but getting rid of the 8-year-old.” * “There’s nothing Trump can do that won’t be forgiven, except change his immigration policies.” * She reportedly called Trump an “awful, awful person” while still saying she would vote for him. * In 2024, when asked what Trump could do to “help America back,” she replied: “Maybe he could die.” At other times, Coulter has strongly supported Trump, especially when she felt he was pursuing tougher immigration policies. Their relationship has gone back and forth over the years.

Things were different in 2010. That was before the democrats fascist election fraud was uncovered, the Castro style 'destroy Trump at all costs' actions, and the open border policies, letting in millions of poor, dependent class future dem voter scheme. Since then rubio and the rest of the Cuban exile community in Miami have been against Amnesty except for the most deserving. They have seen Marxist takeovers first hand. Rubio would make an excellent President.

As things stand now, it's going to be J.D. Depending on what Rubio says during the primary, he could well be Vance's VP providing he quits shooting from the hip. The Hispanic vote is sizable now.

Ann doesn't seem to realize it takes a long time to earn credibility, but only a short time to destroy it forever. For example, Tucker Carlson, Thomas Massie, Jonah Goldberg, and many others. The same could be said for Rubio (thanks to above posts that remind me why). That said, I am incredibly impressed with Rubio's team-player performance as SoS. I am very happy with what I see, even though I have seen other sides of Rubio which makes me wonder if the Real Marco Rubio will please stand up. On the other hand, do I have my concerns about JD? Yes. Did I have my concerns about Trump? Yes. I used to like MTG, Boebart, Thomas Massie and Rand Paul. Fool me once, shame on me, fool me twice, we fool... we won't be fooled again. Hah, I used to like the Bush family, and the Cheneys, and Dan Crenshaw. Apparently I am a bad judge of character. I must keep this in mind. As a side note, Victor Davis Hanson is my rock. I don't know if I've ever been disappointed in him.

Rubio's track record on immigration when he was a Senator gives me pause, and I can't think of any legislation he sponsored that promoted the conservative cause. I can't support him for the nomination. Vance's political resume is very thin. He was a Senator for a short period of time who didn't do anything notable. As Vice President he has done what VPs do - support the President's policies - so it's not clear what his policies would be. So, I can't support him either. I will be supporting DeSantis, assuming he is going to run. He has an extremely strong record of conservative accomplishments. I don't have to worry about he will govern as President - he has proven himself over and over again.

Ann is very smart, but has become a real pain in the butt in the past couple of years. I find her to be strident and hardheaded. I suppose that she feels she is still relevant, but the truth is is that she has wound up on Trump’s “stuff” list. I don’t know what the hell she wants.

So, one commenter says "It takes a short time to destroy credibility, forever".....but not Rubio. His credibility is rebuilt quickly,...."Hey, he hasn't screwed us over in a few years, we'll forget all that and give him a clean slate." I don't agree with Coulter these days on much, but she is correct on Rubio. He's a scorpion. Remember the scorpion and the frog. The scorpion cannot change his nature.

Not sure whom I would support in the 2028 primary. Both Vance and Rubio, so far, have been great assets in Trump’s second term. Either will do for me. I am puzzled by the Never Rubio posts decrying his long past, partial involvement in a bill that never became law. Yet these same posters are ardent supporters of Donald Trump who was a Democrat for decades but wised up. Vance expressed extreme disdain for Trump but also wised up and has been accepted by who decry Rubio. Rubio long ago changed his mind on amnesty. That’s good enough for me.

One of the family members of the founder of this site said it best. "Ann Coulter is in the Ann Coulter business." I remember distinctly Ann Coulter explaining with great intensity how Mitt Romney was the man. And then Trump was the man. And then Trump wasn't the man as #2 correctly points out. And now Trump is the man again, and Rubio isn't. Ann Coulter's slogan should be, "Pretty dislikes." She is petty, mercurial, and vindictive. Despite these traits, she was indulged in the past because she was pretty. But now she isn't. And only self-indulgence is left. It would be sad, if she wasn't so mean.

The clinician was knocked to the ground inside an apartment building on Hemenway Street, steps from Northeastern University's campus. A police officer was stabbed in the arm.

WASHINGTON – In a political blow to President Donald Trump, the Senate on May 19 moved forward for the first time with a measure to end the war in Iran. After several key Republican senators didn't vote – and another key GOP bloc defected – the war powers resolution advanced, 50-47. Though the vote was largely procedural, and faces an uphill battle to actually becoming law, the resolution's progress was a bad omen for the White House about potentially waning support in Congress for the war. Rising gas prices, spiking inflation and the president's sinking polling numbers have become political liabilities for battleground GOP lawmakers as the November midterm elections approach.
