Can Our Civilization Survive Its Betrayal

Sometimes you have to wonder what the point of fighting the decline of Western Civilization is. It seems inevitable, and enough people seem to tolerate it that it's easy to think about giving up, moving someplace where the deterioration will take longer or be avoided by a large enough concentration of people who share our values, so sanity will prevail. I continue to believe this attitude is wrong, morally, strategically, and tactically. It may be tempting to go down that path, but we are not put on this Earth to do easy things; we are put here to do important things, which are often hard.

Spirit Airlines has ceased operations. Now you may not care because you didn't fly Spirit, and have heard a lot of bad things about the airline, or more specifically, the behavior of its customers, but you should. Thousands of people are going to lose their jobs, and ticket prices on all airlines are going to skyrocket. My wife and I were regular flyers on Spirit, and we actually found that it was not only much cheaper than the alternatives, but a better flying experience as well. We didn't mind the "pick what services you want" model of pricing, which so many complained about, because the pricing

The Supreme Court's bombshell ruling striking down racial gerrymandering under the Voting Rights Act sent shockwaves through the political landscape this week — and Southern Republican governors wasted no time acting on it. For Democrats, who have spent years leaning on race-based district engineering to protect their congressional seats, the timing couldn't be worse. Alabama and Tennessee both called special legislative sessions on Friday to redraw their congressional maps, and the dominoes are already starting to fall across the South. Alabama Gov. Kay Ivey moved quickly,

We were originally referred to as "baby boomers," the generation born in the immediate aftermath of World War II. From 1946 to 1964, the U.S. Census Bureau tells us that more than 76 million babies were born. Why 1964 as a cutoff point? That's the year that the birth control pill was introduced in the U.S., and the birth rate began to decline. Today, we're simply referred to as "Boomers." We grew up in a period of massive wealth creation, painful social change, and the specter of nuclear annihilation hanging over our heads. All of that impacted our worldview and led to a mixed record of accomplishments
Trump rejects the War Powers Resolution 7 replies

In 1973, when Nixon was winding down the Vietnam War, Congress enacted the War Powers Resolution. The Democrats backing the resolution held veto-proof majorities in both chambers of Congress. Nixon’s veto was symbolic only. The Resolution puts the president on a clock: He has 48 hours after initiating an armed conflict to notify Congress, and after 60 days, unless Congress gives him permission, he must end the military action. Today, President Trump has declared war on the War Powers Resolution, saying that Congress cannot constrain his constitutional role as commander in chief and executive over foreign policy.

The United States has been reassessing the force strength our military maintains around the world, under Secretary of War Pete Hegseth in President Trump's second term, and it is now acting on that review, according to new reporting on Friday: President Trump ordered the Pentagon on Friday to withdraw about 5,000 U.S. service members from Germany amid his public feud with German Chancellor Friedrich Merz. The redeployment of troops will bring the number of service members roughly to pre-2022 levels and will affect a brigade combat team and potentially other U.S. forces already in Germany, according to a senior Pentagon official.

Maybe it’s just my suspicious, pessimistic nature. But the conservative websites and forums I surf have been emitting a strange “vibe” these last few days. The Trump assassination attempt details are discussed, and anger is vented. But, there seems to be little contemplation of what this latest attack on Trump portends for MAGA’s future. Even MSM news lacks its usual frenzy of event details, witness interviews, and background on the shooter, his friends, and family. Basic details are described, then ignored. They’ve mostly abandoned “if it bleeds, it leads” reporting to increase audience size. Minimal muckraking on the shooter. Minimal finger-pointing on failed responsibilities,

As Beege wrote earlier, the Governor of Maine, Janet Mills, has dropped out of the Democratic Party race to become the next candidate for Senate this fall. It's an excellent piece, of course, but the subject bears even more discussion. Mills was the hand-picked candidate of Chuck Schumer, who will himself likely be booted from his formerly safe New York Senate seat by a socialist candidate. As the Senate Minority Leader, he should have had all the cards, or more specifically, all the money in the world, to help Mills get over the finish line. Mills dropped out because she ran out of cash. Nobody cares what Chuck thinks

he Atlantic published a story today connecting would-be assassin Cole Allen to Luigi Mangione and Tyler Robinson. On Saturday night, after Cole Tomas Allen’s alleged attempt to assassinate President Trump and administration officials at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner, a familiar ritual began on the internet: compiling a portrait of the shooter, based on the digital breadcrumbs of his online life... President Trump on Thursday signed a bill to fund most of the subagencies within the Department of Homeland Security after a 76-day shutdown of the department. Earlier on Thursday, House lawmakers approved the DHS funding measure, which was first passed by the Senate more than a month ago, to fully fund subagencies that do not carry out immigration enforcement, including the Coast Guard, TSA, Secret Service, FEMA and the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency. Republican lawmakers now plan to advance a separate bill to fund Border Patrol and Immigration and Customs Enforcement. Trump has asked Republicans to send that measure to his desk by June 1.

A large Roman Catholic diocese pushed back at criticism Friday after Pope Leo XIV appointed a former illegal immigrant as a bishop amid heightened tensions between the Vatican and Washington over refugees and ICE enforcement. Leo nominated Bishop Evelio Menjivar-Ayala as bishop of the Diocese of Wheeling-Charleston, which covers all of West Virginia. Menjivar-Ayala originally arrived in San Ysidro, California, smuggled in a car trunk after making several prior attempts as a teenager to flee guerrilla war-torn El Salvador. The bishop has also been critical of increased immigration enforcement measures, calling them a human rights concern and responding directly to critiques of the church from fellow Catholics in the Trump administration ...

Some in Congress are pushing ahead with proposed reforms of the organ donation industry. That, after a bipartisan investigation exposed shortfalls, abuses, and even dangers. Since 1988, more than half a million U.S. organ donors have made 1.1 million transplants possible. 170 million Americans are registered donors, yet more than 100,000 people still wait. Organ Procurement Organizations, OPOs, are nonprofits tasked with managing removal and transfer. As an industry insider, Nycki Martin became a whistleblower. The U.S. Embassy in London issued a security alert on May 1, 2026, urging American citizens in the United Kingdom to remain vigilant after the UK government raised its national terrorism threat level to “SEVERE.” The alert follows the April 29 stabbing attack in Golders Green, a north London area with a large Jewish population, which authorities declared a terrorist incident. The threat elevation signals that a terrorist attack is now considered highly likely, per Counter Terrorism Policing. On April 30, the UK’s Joint Terrorism Analysis Centre raised the national threat level from “substantial” to “SEVERE.” Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood confirmed the change,

The U.S. attacked Iran on Feb. 28. Trump notified Congress on March 2, which started the 60-day time period. On Friday, Trump formally told Congress he does not need to submit anything for approval.

What if social media were treated like tobacco? It might sound like a fantasy, but it’s closer to reality than you might think. Last year, Australia became the first country to ban social media for minors. The law passed the Australian parliament by an overwhelming margin and was wildly popular among Australian adults. Taking a cue, the European Union released an app enabling age verification on social platforms, while a handful of European nations are mulling Australia-style bans. The Canadian government is “very seriously” considering mandatory age limits, while even here in America, the Massachusetts state house recently voted to ban social media for children under 14.
