Virginia Gov. Abigail Spanberger (D) on Monday signed into law a bill eliminating tax exemptions for multiple organizations connected to the Confederacy.
Democrats in the Virginia House and Senate passed HB167 with vote totals of 62-35 and 21-17, respectively, earlier this year. The bill specifically removes the Virginia Division of the United Daughters of the Confederacy (UDC) and the Confederate Memorial Literary Society, among other similar groups, from the list of organizations exempt from state property taxes.
The UDC, a nonprofit, was founded in 1894 by women “seeking to honor their family members and ancestors” who served in the Confederate military or contributed to the Southern war effort, its website states.

A conservative group, American Sovereignty, is launching a nationwide, seven-figure ad campaign designed to capitalize on the State of the Union moment by attacking Democrats over immigration policy. The 30-second spot highlights Democrats’ refusal to stand during president Trump’s address and ties it to his call that the government’s first duty is to protect american citizens, not illegal aliens. The campaign aims to run throughout 2026, with emphasis on battleground states Michigan, North Carolina, and Georgia to defend vulnerable GOP incumbents and pursue potential pickups in both the house and Senate. The ad’s messaging—“Democrats are for illegal immigrant criminals. Republicans are for you”—is supported by a video of Trump’s remarks.

A federal grand jury in Miami indicted Congresswoman Sheila Cherfilus-McCormick, D-FL, and several co-defendants with stealing federal disaster funds, laundering the proceeds, and using the money to support her 2021 congressional campaign.
Court records say that Cherfilus-McCormick, 46, and her brother Edwin Cherfilus, 51, both of Miramar, worked through their family health-care company on a FEMA-funded COVID-19 vaccination staffing contract in 2021. In July 2021, the company received an overpayment of $5 million in FEMA funds.
The indictment alleges that the defendants conspired to steal that $5 million and routed it through multiple accounts to disguise its source.

Texas cannot use its new congressional map for the 2026 election and will instead need to stick with the lines passed in 2021, a three-judge panel ruled Tuesday.
The decision is a major blow for Republicans, in Texas and nationally, who pushed through this unusual mid-decade redistricting at the behest of President Donald Trump. They were hoping the new map would yield control of 30 of the state’s 38 congressional districts — up from the 25 they currently hold — and help protect the narrow GOP majority in the U.S. House.

A Virginia couple has gone to court to try to block President Donald Trump from proceeding with demolition of the White House’s East Wing to make way for a new ballroom.
Charles and Judith Voorhees filed a motion in Washington federal court Thursday afternoon, asking a judge to halt any further damage to the White House while the legality of the project is assessed.
The motion seeks a temporary restraining order against the demolition, arguing it is taking place “without legally required approvals or reviews.”

The Federal Bureau of Investigation is investigating social media posts by at least seven different accounts that appeared to indicate foreknowledge of the assassination of Charlie Kirk, according to three people familiar with the investigation and screenshots obtained by the Washington Free Beacon.
The posts—one of which referenced the date of Kirk’s assassination, September 10, more than a month before it took place—were all deleted in the days following the killing. Several of the accounts appear to belong to transgender individuals, and at least one of them followed suspect Tyler Robinson's roommate ...

Former President Joe Biden has been diagnosed with prostate cancer
Biden was seen last week by doctors after urinary symptoms and a prostate nodule was found. He was diagnosed with prostate cancer on Friday, with the cancer cells having spread to the bone.
“While this represents a more aggressive form of the disease, the cancer appears to be hormone-sensitive which allows for effective management," his office said.
Prostate cancers are given a score called a Gleason score that measures, on a scale of 1 to 10, how the cancerous cells look compared with normal cells. Biden’s office said his score was 9 ...

Sen. Lisa Murkowski announced Thursday that she will vote against confirming Pete Hegseth to lead the Pentagon, becoming the first Republican to oppose one of President Donald Trump’s Cabinet picks ahead of a crucial test vote.
Murkowski, of Alaska, said in a lengthy statement that allegations of excessive drinking and aggressive actions toward women, which Hegseth has denied, show that his behaviors “starkly contrast” with what is expected of the U.S. military. She also noted his past statements that women should not fill military combat roles.
“I remain concerned about the message that confirming Mr. Hegseth sends to women currently serving and those aspiring to join,” Murkowski wrote on social media.

President Joe Biden pardoned his brother James Biden and other relatives Monday for unspecified crimes, a similar last-minute move to protect his family from potential investigation as when he pardoned his son Hunter Biden for gun and tax convictions.
The president said he pardoned his brother and other relatives − his sister Sara Jones Biden, his sister Valerie Biden Owens and her husband John Owens, and another brother, Francis Biden − because of concerns about "baseless and politically motivated investigations wreak havoc on the lives, safety, and financial security of targeted individuals and their families," he said in a statement released minutes before the end of his term.

A woman who is a current breast cancer patient was banned from her hospital over alleged "hurtful remarks" it claims she said about the "LGBTQ community." The patient, Marlene Barbera, was set to receive a mastectomy later this month. Barbera explained that the drama first began after she made a comment about being opposed to a trans pride flag that she spotted hanging in the waiting room of Richmond Family Medicine Clinic in Portland, Oregon. Since then, she has asked online if anyone is able to refer her to an attorney.

Conservative author and businessman Vivek Ramaswamy is “seriously considering” a 2024 presidential bid after traveling to Iowa in January, he confirmed to the Daily Caller on Monday.
Ramaswamy spoke with Iowa farmers and Republican leaders about reviving national identity and combatting woke ideology, the subject of his bestseller “Woke, Inc.: Inside Corporate America’s Social Justice Scam,” published in 2021. “I would say I’m seriously considering it, that’s where I’m at,” Ramaswamy told the Caller in a brief interview. He believes “we are in the middle of this national identity crisis” because “the things that used to define American national identity have disappeared.”

Project Veritas’ latest undercover sting may have been its most insane yet. ... James O’Keefe, confronts a man named Jordon Trishton Walker after a secretly-recorded admission that Pfizer is mutating COVID-19 to create vaccines.... Now, after days of silence, Pfizer has finally responded. In a lengthy statement, the pharmaceutical company ... claims it does not perform gain-of-function research. There’s a lot of doublespeak and hiding behind language there ... it goes on to admit that in a “limited number of cases,” the company engineers the COVID-19 virus to “enable the assessment of antiviral activity in cells.” That seems like it requires a lot more explanation...
