It’s the 2020 Democratic primaries all over again. Just as they were then, progressives are trying to one-up each other with increasingly outlandish fiscal proposals. One of the worst ideas from that year’s frenzied contest — a direct tax on household wealth — is back in fashion. The same characters are back to reheat old redistribution. Senator Bernie Sanders (I., Vt.) got the ball rolling, outlining a 5 percent annual tax on all billionaires’ net worths. Not to be outdone, Senator Elizabeth Warren (D., Mass.) is more ambitious.

I was just getting ready to wrap up my day and kick back with a little Golden Girls and ginger ale zero (living on the edge!), when I saw that Secretary of State Marco Rubio's schedule for tomorrow says he's meeting with Venezuelan opposition leader and Nobel Peace Prize winner María Corina Machado on Tuesday morning at 10 a.m. Admittedly, that made my heart sing a little bit. I know she is the future of that country, and I've become so invested in the future of that country that watching all the progress we're making unfold in real time is quite a thrill.

The clock is running. The political landscape heading into the midterms is tightening. It demands clarity, discipline, and focus.
Early polling does not show a runaway advantage for either party. It shows a contest that remains within reach. That reality carries a blunt implication for Republicans. Victory will not come from diffuse messaging or broad, unfocused outreach.
It will come from consolidating and mobilizing the voters most likely to show up, as well as those most likely to support the party. That means building a precise, unapologetic coalition of MAGA voters and senior citizens.

The Minnesota Secretary of State's Office has been served with a federal grand jury subpoena seeking access to certain voter records as part of an investigation into whether non-citizens may have registered or voted illegally, according to sources cited in a report.
The probe, led by the U.S. Department of Justice in coordination with the Department of Homeland Security, marks an escalation in a broader dispute between federal authorities and several states over access to voter data and election oversight.

It was worth a try, and considering the way it was written, I think it probably deserved a much kinder take than the courts gave it, but the ruling was the ruling.

Bill SB26-146 would ban “a retail food establishment or third-party food delivery service from providing single-use food serviceware to a customer” unless the customer requested or confirms he or she wanted it, according to the bill’s text. Democratic Colorado State Sen. Lisa Cutter and Democratic Colorado State Rep. Meg Froelich introduced the legislation on March 24 and, if passed, will go into effect at the start of 2027.

House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer said Monday his committee has received information showing the United States' Census Bureau in 2020 miscalculated the number of Americans in a way that cost Republicans multiple House seats.
Comer claimed the basic count was biased against Republicans because the bureau made estimations instead of doing a physical count during the COVID-19 pandemic, and estimated high in Democratic areas like major cities and underestimated in suburban areas known to be more friendly to Republicans.

This is largely the fault of Senate Majority Leader John Thune (R-S.D.), who has never been a strong supporter of the President. Despite this, most Republicans hoped that Thune would work to advance Trump’s priorities, particularly after his decisive 2024 victory provided the momentum for the GOP to retake the Senate. But Thune’s refusal to get the SAVE America Act passed and his surrender to the Democrats on DHS funding — without additional money for ICE or CPB — dashed any hope.

We wonder if anyone has conducted a demographic survey of the people who showed up at the “No Kings” protests around the country, because we suspect the results would be an embarrassment.
We noticed as a rally marched down the main street in Pasadena, California, that the protesters were comprised almost entirely of white people who were predominantly middle-aged or older. (This is a city that is 40% black and Hispanic, according to the Census Bureau.)
