It’s the 2020 Democratic primaries all over again. Just as they were then, progressives are trying to one-up each other with increasingly outlandish fiscal proposals. One of the worst ideas from that year’s frenzied contest — a direct tax on household wealth — is back in fashion. The same characters are back to reheat old redistribution. Senator Bernie Sanders (I., Vt.) got the ball rolling, outlining a 5 percent annual tax on all billionaires’ net worths. Not to be outdone, Senator Elizabeth Warren (D., Mass.) is more ambitious.

Of course, none of these billionaires ever heard of an offshore trust because, you know, they're just billionaires, so not necessarily smart.

Bernie and Lieawatha are sick people with one-track minds. No effective ideas other than how to legally rob honest working people because they have been doing that for their entire lives.

Liberals refuse to understand that if you are using other people's money, it is not charity. It never occurs to these people to get out their checkbooks and use their own money for all of their programs.

Rubio on Venezuela: 'We're Well On Our Way' 1 reply

I was just getting ready to wrap up my day and kick back with a little Golden Girls and ginger ale zero (living on the edge!), when I saw that Secretary of State Marco Rubio's schedule for tomorrow says he's meeting with Venezuelan opposition leader and Nobel Peace Prize winner María Corina Machado on Tuesday morning at 10 a.m. Admittedly, that made my heart sing a little bit. I know she is the future of that country, and I've become so invested in the future of that country that watching all the progress we're making unfold in real time is quite a thrill.
MAGA + Seniors = GOP Midterm Victory 6 replies

The clock is running. The political landscape heading into the midterms is tightening. It demands clarity, discipline, and focus. Early polling does not show a runaway advantage for either party. It shows a contest that remains within reach. That reality carries a blunt implication for Republicans. Victory will not come from diffuse messaging or broad, unfocused outreach. It will come from consolidating and mobilizing the voters most likely to show up, as well as those most likely to support the party. That means building a precise, unapologetic coalition of MAGA voters and senior citizens. The data leaves little room for interpretation.

Gasoline prices are spiking everywhere, particularly in California, with premium coming dangerously close $9 a gallon last week in one Los Angeles neighborhood. So what’s an appointed bureaucrat to do? Find a crime, of course. “Our team is vigilantly monitoring the retail, wholesale, and spot markets,” Tai Milder, first director of the Division of Petroleum Market Oversight (DPMO) for the California Energy Commission, announced last week, as gas prices were rising. “Any reports of unfair practices or market manipulation will be taken seriously, and we will not hesitate to refer any illegal conduct for further investigation and prosecution.”

If you're not paying attention to the Tyler Robinson case, you’d better start now. A fresh court filing just dropped a massive curveball in the assassination of Charlie Kirk. The filing claims that the bullet that killed Kirk last September doesn’t match the rifle that Robinson used. “As these cases indicate, determining the number of contributors to a DNA mixture and determining whether the FBI and the ATF reliably applied validated and correct scientific procedures... is a complicated process which requires the assistance of various types of experts, including forensic biologists, geneticists, system engineers and statisticians, all of whom must review and evaluate' several different categories,” the filing states.

Rep. Eric Swalwell on Saturday responded to news of a renewed FBI probe into his relationship with Fang Fang, the Chinese honeypot who infiltrated his congressional campaign from 2011 to 2015. Swalwell told CNN’s Jim Sciutto that the members of the Trump administration are “dangerous individuals” and claimed that the investigation is only happening because he’s sued the Trump campaign, helped lead an impeachment during Trump’s first term, and is running for Governor of California. Sciutto: As I believe you know that he has now restarted an investigation of you, which the FBI previously conducted and found no accusation or evidence of wrongdoing.

The Minnesota Secretary of State's Office has been served with a federal grand jury subpoena seeking access to certain voter records as part of an investigation into whether non-citizens may have registered or voted illegally, according to sources cited in a report. The probe, led by the U.S. Department of Justice in coordination with the Department of Homeland Security, marks an escalation in a broader dispute between federal authorities and several states over access to voter data and election oversight. No criminal charges have been filed so far. Investigators are looking for information that is linked to more than 125 individuals, a source said.

The Associated Press is running paid public relations advertisements on X and on the wire service’s own website on behalf of Huawei as the blacklisted Chinese telecom behemoth and the CCP seek influence over a key United Nations tech agency. The U.S. government has long pointed to the national security threat posed by Huawei and has sought to limit the firm’s spread inside the United States and around the world. At the same time, the AP took cash from the Chinese company to promote Huawei’s efforts to burnish its image as the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) —

On the menu today: President Trump is adding his signature to the U.S. dollar. Also, a long, numbers-heavy look at the assertion going viral that the state government of California is “functionally bankrupt.” In what probably counts for optimism, I would argue the outlook for California’s budget in the coming years is bad — really bad — but not quite apocalyptic this-will-tear-apart-the-country bad. Read on. When We Said, ‘Trump Should Sign the Bill,’ We Meant Something Different Look at it this way; at least President Trump isn’t putting his face on American currency:

Israel’s military leadership has issued one of its starkest warnings in years, raising serious questions about the sustainability of the country’s defense posture amid growing internal strain and mounting operational demands. At the center of the alarm is Eyal Zamir—the highest-ranking military officer in Israel and the commander of the entire IDF—who told ministers behind closed doors that the army is approaching a breaking point. According to reports from multiple Israeli outlets, Zamir warned the cabinet that the Israel Defense Forces could “collapse in on itself” if urgent reforms are not implemented. His remarks,

It's troubling that a state would feel the need to pass a law preserving a constitutional amendment. Not that the state feels that way, so much as the fact that there's a reason for them to feel that way. A few years ago, Missouri passed the Second Amendment Preservation Act. Unfortunately, the courts struck it down as unconstitutional. It was worth a try, and considering the way it was written, I think it probably deserved a much kinder take than the courts gave it, but the ruling was the ruling. Missouri lawmakers, not to be deterred, gave it another go. As we now know, it did not turn out well.

Are you sitting down? This is shocking news. It turns out that New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani’s new ‘free’ childcare program isn’t free at all. In fact, it’s going to cost $60,000 – Per child. Of course, it’ll be free for the people who get the service, but not for the taxpayers who are funding it. This is the shell game that is always played by leftists. Nothing is free and they know it. Someone always pays. Oh and by the way, this is just the rollout of the program. You know it will cost more down the road. The cost of “free” child care is soaring.

Hollywood is in big trouble, and everybody can feel it now. The panic is real, and it’s setting in. Yes, some of this panic is about streaming, economics, COVID fallout, and production fleeing to other states and countries, thanks to Gavin Newsom. But let’s not play dumb here. Hollywood also did this to itself. The movie industry made a very deliberate choice to stop entertaining people and start lecturing them. When Trump came down that escalator, Hollywood went bonkers. Among the pub-table strategists and commentators in Europe talking about Iran you often hear the phrase, “This is not our war.” That’s a view as wrong as it is strategically unwise. Of course it is our war. It is far more our war than America’s. The infiltration of European societies by Islamist networks is further advanced and more acute here than in America. (And solidarity with Israel, whose very existence is under threat, ought to be far stronger in Germany than in the United States.) But even if one believed it was not our war, or even if one were disappointed
