More Truth About Newsom’s Busted California

All is well in California, according to Gov. Gavin Newsom. The milk flows cool and creamy, and the honey has never been so sweet. But beneath the bluster lies bitter experience and, if nothing changes, a sour future. The Golden State, says the presidential aspirant in a recent co-bylined op-ed published by Project Syndicate, offers policy predictability, a welcome home for global capital, and a green agenda like no other. Newsom is correct in that policy is predictable in California. But that’s no virtue when policy is expected to always move in a single direction — toward weightier regulation, more punitive

If a Republican is elected governor, I wish them luck. That state is in such a mess. They (candidates) have to have a love for the state to want to take on that load.

The Wall Street Journal recently reported on the growing divide between blue and red states when it comes to income taxes. What it failed to mention is that this shows the genius of the nation’s founders. “Republican-led states are racing each other to flatten, cut, and eliminate individual income taxes, with 23 states lowering their top income-tax rates since 2021,” Richard Rubin and Jeanne Whalen write. And, indeed, this year, nine states – all Republican – either cut their top marginal tax rate or lowered their flat tax rate. Ohio became the 14th state to adopt a flat tax. “Democratic-controlled states are moving the opposite way

California has already sued the Trump administration at least 54 times a little more than a year into his second term. State Attorney General Rob Bonta claims the lawsuits are an effort to hold President Donald Trump accountable. But litigation goes both ways. The administration is now suing California over its zero-emission (in effect, electric) vehicle mandate. The Justice Department says that California’s ZEV mandates and its stringent standards for CO2 emissions violate federal law, which expressly prohibits states from setting their own fuel economy standards for cars, adding

Democrats have kept the Department of Homeland Security shuttered since mid-February because they were outraged that two Americans were killed by ICE agents while interfering with their work. Since then, terrorists have claimed four American lives – a number that could have been significantly higher had fortune not prevailed. So, where are the protests over these deaths? “What’s happening in Minnesota is appalling — and unacceptable in any American city,” is how Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer justified his party’s decision to force the DHS closure. Democrats are insisting on a raft of ICE “reforms,”

It wasn’t long ago that millions and millions of American kids heard their parents’ best advice: “The only way to get ahead is with a college education.” And millions took their advice. Today’s parents and the kids themselves are skeptical college is worth the cost, the latest I&I/TIPP Poll shows. The national online poll, taken Feb. 24 to Feb. 27, asked 1,456 adults: “Do you believe a four-year college degree is worth the cost for most Americans today, or not?” The answer indicates serious erosion in how Americans view the value of higher education. Overall, of those responding, 59% selected “Not worth the cost,” while just

When Washington lawmakers were debating the state’s first-ever income tax, Gov. Bob Ferguson said the 9.9% rate on incomes above $1 million “represents historic progress in rebalancing our unfair system.” And at first blush, you can see why Washingtonians might agree with him. The new tax promises, after all, to raise $3.7 billion from fewer than 0.5% percent of the state’s taxpayers, with the money going toward such wonderfulness as education, child care, and expanded low-income tax credits. The middle-class families in that state are in for a rude awakening. First, the tax isn’t likely to collect anywhere

In just the first five months of the new fiscal year, the federal government has already spent more than $3 trillion – more than it spent in all of 2009 – $1 trillion of which it had to borrow. And what is all this money going toward? The federal government was told 15 years ago to take a full, annual inventory of everything it does. It’s never been able to get that done. “Each year, the federal government spends trillions of dollars on federal programs that support the American people and address policy goals,” notes the Government Accountability Office in a report released earlier this month.

For many years, we’ve marveled at the fact that Moody’s Analytics keeps paying Mark Zandi to be its chief economist. While he’s good at parroting Democratic talking points, anyone who followed his economic predictions over the past decades would be in the poorhouse. Let’s take just one example: Inflation. Presumably, this is something that economists should be able to understand and reliably forecast. When Joe Biden was pushing his massive “Build Back Better” plan, even we non-economists knew it would spur inflation

The Democrats have been making desperate arguments against voter ID legislation, including claims that it will disenfranchise married women due to their name change. Naturally, they’ve left out the part about Barack Obama launching his political career by using the name change of a married woman in his successful attempt to have all his opponents kicked off the ballot and run unopposed. The SAVE Act, which has been passed by the House and is heavily supported by the public but is stalled in the Republican Senate, simply “requires individuals to provide documentary proof of U.S. citizenship

The bitter debate between Democrats and Republicans over the SAVE Act — which would require voters to provide a valid ID to cast a ballot — has roiled political waters as both major parties gird themselves for the 2026 midterms. But do voters care? They sure do, and it’s not good news for the Democrats, the latest I&I/TIPP Poll results indicate. The online poll, taken from Feb. 24 to Feb. 27 by 1,456 adults nationwide, asked voters: “The SAVE Act (Safeguard American Voter Eligibility Act) is a proposed federal law that would require individuals to present identification and prove U.S. citizenship

"The Democrats are betting on failure.” That’s how National Review’s Noah Rothman characterizes the Democratic Party’s response to the U.S.-Israeli attacks on the terrorist regime that controls Iran. But Rothman has it only half right. Democrats aren’t just betting on failure in Iran. They are trying to engineer it. And not just in Iran, but at home as well, where they are actively trying to undermine the economy. Because, you see, the midterms are coming up, and to Democrats, what matters isn’t the well-being of Americans or ridding the world of its chief terrorist threat. The only thing that matters is winning elections.

The United Nations is having a budget crisis. It might have to lay off part of its staff. No one should be brokenhearted over this. It should instead be cause for celebration. The U.N. is nothing more than a parasite leeching off the American taxpayer while propping up dictators, terrorists, and every left-wing crackpot scheme ever dreamed up. It should be dissolved. Earlier this year, U.N. Secretary-General António Guterres “sent a dramatic letter to” member states to warn them “about the ‘imminent financial collapse'” of the organization, says the Global Policy Forum of Europe. “The letter

The Supreme Court ‘s conservative majority on Monday sounded skeptical of state laws that allow the counting of late-arriving mail ballots, a persistent target of President Donald Trump. The court heard arguments in a case from Mississippi that also could affect voters in 13 other states and the District of Columbia, which have grace periods for ballots cast by mail. An additional 15 states that have more forgiving deadlines for ballots from military and overseas voters also could be impacted. A ruling is expected by late June, early enough to govern the counting of ballots in the 2026 midterm congressional elections.

Dems have been playing fast and loose with our elections for quite a while now. They keep testing every gimmick they can think of. Whatever they can do to make voting drag on longer, feel less secure, and leave more room for “funny business.” Of course the one thing they don’t want to do is the most obvious: voter ID. Their schemes are always sold as some kind of better “access” or more “convenience,” but what they’re really doing is turning a civic act into a chaotic, messy process that Americans don’t trust.

For nearly a decade, Americans were told that powerful institutions had been weaponized against a sitting president and his supporters. Now more than a year into Trump’s second term, many voters are beginning to ask a simple question: Where are the results?

Mueller, who died at 81 on Friday night, was the special counsel tasked with investigating allegations that Russia interfered in the 2016 presidential election to benefit President Trump – a claim the current administration asserts was part of a “treasonous conspiracy” orchestrated by the Obama administration to “subvert” Trump. “Bob Mueller was one of the finest directors in the history of the FBI, transforming the bureau after 9/11 and saving countless lives,”

On Sunday, I wrote about how Code Pink and a bunch of other worthless commies went to Cuba after they put together the "Nuestra América Convoy," which describes itself as a humanitarian group but is really just some sort of anti-Trump, pro-Cuban regime operation. Cuba's "president," Miguel Díaz-Canel, rolled out the red carpet at a convention center, and then the group stayed in a five-star well-lit hotel. I say "well-lit' because no one else on the island has power, yet oddly this hotel and convention center do. The convoy also threw themselves a little concert — again, with plenty of electricity to go around — but this

The officers were met with backlash from multiple passengers who filmed the scene and yelled at them, as the woman continued to cry with a young girl standing beside her, also sobbing. “This is un-American,” one passenger is heard yelling. “What is your badge number?
