Welcome to "The New Monroe Doctrine," where I give you an update on what's going on in the Western Hemisphere, south of our border, especially as it relates to the United States.
China's been embedding itself in Latin America and the Caribbean for years. Decades, even. We know this. We know that during four years of whatever you want to call the Joe Biden administration, it got even worse. While Congress was arguing over pronouns and gender ideology, and the president was alienating our allies in the region, like Nayib Bukele; bending over for our adversaries, like Nicolás Maduro; and, well, probably taking lots of naps, China was setting up

t's bad enough that Rep. Eric Swalwell, who's running for governor of California, doesn't live here, as court filings allege.
Now it's coming to light that he doesn't seem to have much loyalty to the country it's actually in.
He's taken, and continuing to take, big campaign cash from a lawyer with abnormally strong ties to the Communist Party of China.
According to Fox News:
Rep. Eric Swalwell's, D-Calif., gubernatorial campaign continues to be bankrolled by Keliang "Clay" Zhu despite concerns over his ties to China and the Chinese Communist Party (CCP).
Zhu donated another $25,000 to Swalwell's campaign earlier this month after he had already donated $5,000 to Swalwell’s gubernatorial campaign in November

I was raised to believe that democracy came with duties as well as rights. You voted. You accepted the outcome. You argued your case, made your peace with defeat when it came, and waited for the next election. Politics was competitive, sometimes bruising, but it was not meant to be an existential threat. The opposition’s role was to hold the government to account, not to weaken the country for political gain.
That older civic instinct now feels rather quaint.
In theory, the idea of the “loyal opposition” remains central to democratic life. But in practice, it is disappearing before our eyes. We still have opposition parties, of course. What we increasingly

So I gather “mogging,” and/or “mogged” is the new hip term for . . . something . . . among the Gen Z or Millennials, like “flexing” a decade ago. And it seems “maxxing” goes with it somehow. I can’t keep up. But somehow I suspect both terms can be used creatively with Gruesom Newsom, whose 2028 presidential campaign is already over, though he won’t know this for another couple years. Has there ever been a more phony person in politics? Yes, I know there are many contenders, but he has to be at the top of the heap by now. Meanwhile, the one and only job

As badly as “green” mythology has damaged the United States, it has been even more devastating to a number of other countries, including Great Britain. Thus, we have this cri de cœur: “Britain’s industry ‘on cliff edge’ over cost of electricity.” It is becoming impossible to sustain basic industries–the ones most essential to any nation’s security–in the U.K.
Britain is committing a “national act of self-harm” through its high energy prices and risks losing its few remaining electricity-hungry industries, the chief executive of the Society of Chemical Industry has warned.
Sharon Todd said the country’s industry was “standing on the edge of a cliff”, facing electricity prices among the highest

President Donald Trump’s 2026 State of the Union was one for the ages, and the night is still producing glorious fruit.
Trump held nothing back as he stealthily revealed the Democratic Party’s current “America last” position on the world stage. His repeated shaming enraged his political foes to the point where Reps. Ilhan Omar and Rashida Tlaib began screaming like children.
Now it’s been revealed what Talib was mimicking while Republicans were patriotically chanting “U.S.A.! U.S.A.!” and it’s as predictable as you’d expect. (X) Seriously.
At least that’s what the live clip looks like, which can be viewed below:

Could things get any worse for Minnesota's elected officials?
In just nine years, autism-related spending in Minnesota ballooned from roughly $1 million to a jaw-dropping $343 million. That is not a typo. That is a more than 34,000 percent increase. Most of that surge happened under Democrat Governor Tim Walz. (X) We are not talking about a modest policy expansion. We are not talking about inflation. We are not even talking about a doubling or tripling of a program. We are talking about a spending rocket ship fueled by taxpayer dollars with almost no serious public alarm from the people who are supposed to guard the vault.
Before anyone starts screaming

President Trump named Nigeria a “Country of Particular Concern (CPC)” in October 2025 because of the persecution of Christians, which is rampant in the West African country, and the regularly occurring extremist violence.
He tasked Reps. Riley M. Moore (WV-02) and Tom Cole (OK-04) with the job of detailing what exactly is going on over there and what we can do to stop it. On Monday, the congressmen handed in their homework: (X) In a statement posted on Riley’s website, he said that countless hours of work had gone into preparing the report:

Another day, another shooting incident involving a transgender individual. This time in New Hampshire.
From a Tuesday DOJ press release:

The extent to which the Department of Justice under Merrick Garland was weaponized to serve the Democratic Party is a scandal that is still unraveling. The FBI was particularly turned to partisan ends, a scandal for which there has yet been no accounting.
It has most recently come to light that in 2023, the FBI tapped the phones secretly subpoenaed phone records of both Kash Patel–now, ironically, the Director of the FBI–and Susie Wiles, now the President’s Chief of Staff. This was all, I take it, part of the Democratic Party’s well-organized effort to prevent Donald Trump from being re-elected President in 2024.
That the FBI wiretapped Patel and Wiles is disgraceful,

One of President Trump's key priorities for his second term was rebuilding and re-arming our military, including making sure we have the best, most modern aircraft in the world. That may well be happening now, and in record time. The United States Air Force's first 6th-generation fighter, the F-47, is reportedly on track for a 2028 test flight. That's remarkably fast for a concept-to-cockpit development these days.
The advanced F-47 sixth-generation fighter remains on track to fly in the next two years, the senior Air Force acquisition officer overseeing the program said Feb. 25, as the service continues on its ambitious schedule to debut the air superiority-focused fighter by 2028

Democrat Rep. Ilhan Omar (MN-5) is demanding a full investigation after Capitol Police arrested her guest during President Trump’s State of the Union address Tuesday night — and the woman they hauled out might look awfully familiar to RedState readers.
The congresswoman invited 43-year-old Minneapolis activist Aliya Rahman — the same far-left agitator who went viral in January when ICE agents dragged her from her car during immigration enforcement operations in her home state — to sit in the gallery as her personal guest. Wouldn't you know it, somebody as attention-seeking and willing to intentionally get arrested to interfere in law enforcement actions as Rahman, seated next to a lawmaker
