Federal officials announced on Feb. 4 that approximately 700 immigration enforcement personnel would be withdrawn from Minnesota effective immediately, equating to approximately 25% of all agents deployed to the area. (snip) [R]oughly 2,000 immigration enforcement personnel would remain in the area (snip) [--] a sustained enforcement footprint well above historical norms for a single metropolitan area. (snip) Federal officials explicitly linked the reduction to increased cooperation from state and local authorities, including agreements by county jails to transfer individuals subject to immigration holds. (snip) The drawdown functions less as de-escalation than as enforcement consolidation.

Comments:

According to Tom Homan, a team of 16 agents is required to arrest an illegal alien at his or her residence, vs. a couple of officers for a handover at a courthouse or jail. Reportedly, the number of custodial transfers has increased in recent days and the Minneapolis Police Department has begun to respond to street blockades and rioters.

I would not have been that easy. For every 10 illegals arrested (and removed), 10 federal agents will leave. Any hiccups, the federal agents come back.

We'll see. Meanwhile in my former Nextdoor group in New York people are claiming ICE agents are going door to door and holding school children hostage to use them as bait to get their illegal alien parents. Maybe it's true. Personally, I think they are lying.

The problem was the show’s conceit: It was a message of unity, inclusion, and togetherness — in a language that 85% of the population doesn’t understand and cannot speak. That’s not unity. That’s division. Lo siento, Bad Bunny and/or the NFL, but the underlying metrics of the NFL’s Super Bowl halftime show didn’t make a lick of sense: Only about 14% to 18% of the U.S. population speaks fluent Spanish — which means, of course, that 86% to 82% do not. Only 14% of the NFL’s total audience is Hispanic. The number of Latinos/Hispanics who speak English exclusively is growing, not shrinking:

Democrats push hard for every possible advantage in elections, but courts sometimes draw a line. U.S. District Judge William L. Osteen Jr. delivered a ruling that defined those lines by rejecting a Democratic demand for early voting sites on three North Carolina university campuses. His ruling carried an unmistakable tone of impatience toward a case that tried to dress political convenience as constitutional necessity. The College Democrats of North Carolina argued that without on-campus sites, students would need to travel off campus to vote, imposing time and transportation burdens on young voters. That's the premise Judge Osteen rejected, making clear that elections aren't built to require perfect comfort;

Yet this week saw some victories for the administration along with some serious unfinished business. The ousted dictator Nicolás Maduro seems isolated, depressed, and devoid of funds sufficient to hire teams of lawyers to defend him. Any claims he might have for immunity seem destined to fail. The evidence establishes he was born in Colombia; his claim falls because only a native Venezuelan is entitled to hold the office of president.
