A Complicated Week

Original Article

The attention of those less politically minded is focused on the disappearance of Savannah Guthrie’s mother, Nancy -- always fodder for the would-be Colombos and Miss Marples -- and the Olympics. Yet this week saw some victories for the administration along with some serious unfinished business. The ousted dictator Nicolás Maduro seems isolated, depressed, and devoid of funds sufficient to hire teams of lawyers to defend him. Any claims he might have for immunity seem destined to fail. The evidence establishes he was born in Colombia; his claim falls because only a native Venezuelan is entitled to hold the office of president.

Comments:

Ms Feldman finds optimism in surveying a bleak landscape. The news cycles are preoccupied with sensational and passing events while the administration is changing the world.

FTA: "...sixteen Nobel Prize-winning economists had confidently predicted would never happen because President Trump’s policies would first reduce the American economy to a smoking crater populated only by unemployed factory workers trading bitcoin for canned goods." LOL, that's good! Perhaps those 16, "Economistas," might consider trading, yea verily, pawning their Prize for a can of Friskies for lunch... that's about all a Nobel Prize (except for Physics) is worth these days. They can certainly find sympathetic souls in the 51 Intelligence "Experts" who opined that Hunter Biden's Laptop was put together in Vlad Putin's basement by a couple of Russian hackers who wished to make everyone vote for Donald Trump... /s

The second Nobel in economics (19970) went to Paul Samuelson for work he had done, analyzing the decision making process in the Milwaukee Parks and Recreation department where the decision makers were acting, even though they had incomplete information. And that is the story of Economics - an analytical process based on assumptions, not facts. The assumptions? Man is rational, consistent, and will always maximize pleasure while minimizing cost,

The wide range of political leaders around the globe (former and current) with ties to Epstein tells me he had a lot of dirt on almost everyone of importance and that is what enabled him to acquire his wealth and protect him for so long. Hillary Clinton - will someone please charge her with violating the Logan Act? It's bad enough that John Kerry got away with it when talking to Iranian leaders, but Hillary?! And finally, Nancy Guthrie - tragic event, but not the first time an elderly person has gone missing for good or bad reasons. And I have to laugh that Fox News has been all over her disappearance, but if Shannon Bream's mother disappeared under similar circumstance, none of the left wing media outlets would cover it. And why is President Trump weighing in on her disappearance? Bad enough he publicly informed us that he was directing the FBI to use all their resources in the search for her. What gives? I hated when Obama commented on local events such as the Gates incident in his first term or the Trayvon Martin death. Gee, what's next from President Trump: If I had a mother she would look like Nancy....

Another great article from Ms. Feldman. How pathetic though that we have to absorb a week’s worth of important news, barely covered by the media, because they think we’re all craving 24/7 news about a missing elderly woman in Arizona. A woman who no one would ever have heard of if her daughter wasn’t a well known talking head on a liberal network.

With regard to the economy there is an organization -Truflation - which monitors millions of prices in real time. They report true inflation rate is 1.24% vs the "official" fed rate of 2.7%. Of course the legacy media won't report it.

The article is very good but I really like the summation. Lots of good things are happening and they are strongly trending in the favor of the US and Conservative views. Sure, the propaganda media doesn't want to talk about it but their influence is dying like the dinosaurs after the impact of a Trump asteroid. The average person may not be tracking the individual events that are shaping these outcomes but they ARE aware of the big outcomes. People are aware something happened in Venezuela. If the Mullahs are kicked out of Iran, people will recognize that as significant and important. If the Communists lose control of Cuba, people will recognize that as a BIG deal, because of our long history and closeness to the US. All of those events significantly reduce the bad actors in the world and reduce the influence of powers like China, although a lot of the people in the US may not get the implications of that. But they will see the effects of the economy improving as these good things happen and the other countries in the world realize that the US is not going to be pushed around.

To my mind the two biggest stories of the week for their domestic impact are Senator Chuck Schumer’s threatened government shutdown and the indictment of former FBI head James Comey. Neither of them bodes well for the Democrats, whose favorability ratings are already scraping bottom. Both revolve around the magic date September 30, that is, this Tuesday. If the Congress does not pass a continuing resolution this Tuesday, the government will shut down. Schumer insists that he won’t vote for a stopgap bill, something centrists in his party like Senator Jeanne Shaheen are seeking.

The New York Times set out Friday to embarrass President Donald Trump over his hardline stance on NATO. It wound up spectacularly backfiring on them. Several NATO nations have declined to join a U.S.-Israel military operation targeting Iran. Alliance members also refused Trump's requests to deploy their forces to reopen the Strait of Hormuz, much to the chagrin of President Trump, who figures that if NATO allies won’t help the United States, then the alliance has become meaningless.
