The software engineers were confronted by protesters who surrounded the restaurant, shouting insults and blowing whistles in their ears as they attempted to leave, according to one of the men. What began as a casual lunch between five Twin Cities software engineers quickly escalated into a frightening encounter after the men were misidentified as undercover federal agents and protesters were alerted to the Minneapolis restaurant where they were dining. (snip) [T]he alert was shared among anti-ICE networks, drawing dozens of protesters to the restaurant within 15 minutes.
The Department of Justice is reportedly investigating Democratic Governor Tim Walz and Democratic Mayor Jacob Frey of Minneapolis for obstruction (snip.) Two Department of Justice officials told WCCO, a Minneapolis-area TV station, that a federal investigation was looking into whether Walz and Frey tried to block (snip) ICE from carrying out operations to enforce immigration law (snip.) The DOJ probe is focusing on whether Walz and Frey (snip) [conspired] "to prevent, by force, intimidation, or threat, any person from accepting or holding any office, trust, or place of confidence under the United States, or from discharging any of the duties thereof," CBS News reported.

These queasy conservatives now claim that their objections to the ICE raids are grounded in a suspicion that they may be detrimental to the goal of mass deportations.

While I was writing that article, some rumors were circulating about a big gesture she made, but I couldn't confirm them at the time. Now I can. The Venezuelan opposition leader, on behalf of her people, gave the president her Nobel Peace Prize. Not a replica. The real thing. Since the meeting was purposely kept private, I wasn't sure that a photo would surface, but one got out, and as of late Thursday night, both the White House and Machado have shared it on social media.
