(snip) "The Venezuelan opposition has already mobilized to secure government buildings and work toward establishing a legitimate administration." (snip) This is Trump's greatest achievement, one that is sure to have reverberations, none good, for the ruling claques in Cuba, Nicaragua and Iran. He truly is the new Liberator of the Americas.

Shortly before the 2020 elections, a Venezuelan immigrant (since Chavez took over) drove me to Morton Plant Hospital for my third spinal fusion operation. He told me, almost tearfully, that he was praying for Trump to beat the empty husk of Biden. That didn't happen then, but I know that this good man, who really wanted to return to a free Venezuela, is celebrating this morning. It took a Trump and a Hegseth to do this. All freedom loving Americans (North, Central, South) are joyful today.

This was not on my bingo card for this morning, and how long before democrats threaten impeachment. Im of two minds on this. 1, its about time. 2, I'm generally opposed to interventions in foreign countries. And 3. Can Venezuela put in place a non-corrupt government and keep it?

There are good reasons to do this, so I am OK with it. The reasons even align with American interests! Just two questions: Will some judge declare the Maduro seizure illegal and order him to be freed? Another order for Trump to ignore. Will we be doing nation building in Venezuela? Have to imagine at least until a new government is formed and all the Maduro and Commie/China/Russia loyalists are driven out. What will be the price tag? We really are out of money.

Now, the $100 million question is, will the 1,000,000-plus Venezuelans in the US be returned home so they can fix their own country, stop getting our jobs/living large, and be removed from living at US taxpayers' expense?? They're just one of many groups, but you have to start somewhere; hundreds of thousands of Venezuelan immigrants who fled during Chavez' regime and then Maduro's, were incredibly wealthy, former businessmen and professionals, like the employees of PDVSA (the national oil company). They arrived in Florida and padded their nests in Doral, Miami's Brickell, Weston, and other enclaves. And they did not leave: au contraire, during Venezuelans election, they were allowed to vote from a distance ..................for Chavez and Maduro. It's a scam that only the locals in FL were witnessing, because the feds didn't touch it, and the media never reported it: as with Mexico, all we get is sob stories about the poor little immigrants. Truth is, Venezuela lost its professional class, which landed in the US and are doing fantastic, thank you very much.

While our actions in Venezuela have been successful so far, I can't help but worry that the U.S. will get bogged down on spending billions or trillions on nation building with boots on the ground. Hopefully, this goes well ahead of the midterm elections. We all know that Trump does what he says he's going to do and will take actions despite public sentiment.

The assassination of Charlie Kirk is a horrific reminder that the left is based on nothing other than terror, violence, and aggression. This has been true since Karl howled to Friedrich that the bourgeois would someday pay for his plague of skin boils. The history of the Left is a history of violence. Scarcely a single leftist government has gained power without violence or the threat of violence. No leftist government has ever remained in power without violence. Violence is built into the very foundations of leftist ideology. Marx himself fantasized in print over the apocalyptic events that would accompany the revolution of the proletariat

Here's the current breakdown if a British election were held today: Reform:30% Labor: 21% Conservative: 17% Liberal Democrats: 13% Greens: 9% In other words the parties that have brought Britain to the brink of civil war by supporting mass immigration still command 60% of the vote. Not a picture that suggests massive support for dramatic change. I know, the "first past the post" system would give Reform, at 30%, a large Parliamentary majority, but that doesn't mean the country would be remotely close to unified behind a Reform government.

Kids are arriving on college campuses with fewer skills and diminished attention spans. But, rather than challenge students, many colleges are lowering institutional standards to accommodate them. Colleges around the country have English courses that require students to read a single book all semester. Ivy League schools are rolling out remedial math classes. And some schools are teaching kids skills as basic as structuring sentences. Colleges surely have a challenge on their hands as high schools graduate less distinguished classes, but lowering the bar is the sort of coddling that keeps kids from reaching their potential. College is meant to stretch you to your intellectual max. It’s not a time for hand-holding.
