The attacks at Bondi Beach, Australia and at Brown University remind us western democracies remain uniquely vulnerable to terrorist attacks, even terrorists armed with common firearms rather than the automatic weapons employed in the Middle East and other hot spots. In Australia at least 16, aged 10-87, were killed and some 40 were wounded at a “Chanukah by the Sea” celebration. Yes, the victims were largely Jews, and amazingly, the police think it was terrorism. In this case, the two killers were apparently not “known wolves.” Naveed Akram, 24, and his 50-year-old father, Sajid, allegedly stormed the family-friendly Chanukah by the Sea event

Two Virginia twin brothers were arrested for their alleged roles in deleting government databases hosted by a federal government contractor, the Justice Department announced on Wednesday.
Muneeb and Sohaib Akhter, both 34, were indicted last month for allegedly conspiring to delete databases used to store U.S. government information, the DOJ said in a news release.
The arrests come after Bloomberg News reported in May how the brothers allegedly compromised data across several agencies, including the IRS and the General Services Administration.
More than 400 employees of the Minnesota Department of Human Services (DHS) accused Gov. Tim Walz of failing to act on widespread fraud warnings and retaliating against whistleblowers.

With the election of Zohran Mamdani as Mayor of New York, much conversation has been made of his appeal to “affordability.”
As I’ve written previously, this is a noble conversation, but one that has been dishonestly framed (by Democrats and media) to date. [snip]

Education, housing, healthcare, and food. ronically, these are all areas of the economy that the government has interjected itself in the form of subsidies, regulations, government-backed loans, and transfer payments.

At some point, there will be no news about the Ford Motor Company’s electric vehicle fiasco. But we’re not there yet, as the most recent reports show that the automaker is paying dearly for its commitment to a Potemkin market built by a government that promised favors to companies that would follow its agenda.
Ford’s EV misfortunes have reached a nearly unimaginable low. The company announced Monday that it’s taking a $19.5 billion writedown while eliminating a number of its EV models. Reuters calls it “the most dramatic example yet of the auto industry’s retreat from battery-powered models,”

ABC (Australian Broadcasting Corporation) Global Affairs Editor Laura Tingle raised eyebrows during a recent podcast where she—not once, but twice—declared that the targeted terrorist attack at Sydney's Bondi Beach on Sunday evening was not motivated by religion.
The target of the attack was a Hanukkah celebration to mark the first night of the Jewish holiday. The alleged perpetrators, as noted by Prime Minister Anthony Albanese, who himself would love nothing more than to shift the blame onto inanimate guns, were inspired by ISIS. The attackers had an ISIS flag on the window of their car.
Legally armed civilians, we’re told, pose a major danger. They shoot innocent bystanders, justifiably kill others whenever they personally believe “force is reasonably necessary,” and rely on racist self-defense laws.
At least these concerns are the case in several recent news articles in the Wall Street Journal. On Monday, with the story on the front page of the Journal, reporter Mark Maremont continued his attacks on people legally carrying concealed handguns. His article presents four stories from 2021 to the present where citizens who used a gun in self-defense accidentally shot a bystander.

A federal judge said that he will not temporarily halt the construction of President Trump’s White House ballroom following a lawsuit from the National Trust for Historic Preservation.
U.S. District Judge Richard Leon said on Tuesday that the organization did not adequately show that “great and certain” harm would come if Trump did not temporarily halt construction, noting that below-ground work will not begin until January and above-ground work is scheduled for April, per the Hill.
Leon did, however, put the Trump administration on “fair notice” that it should be prepared to remove below-ground changes if it were to alter the above-ground structure.

In Australia, self-defense is an invalid reason to request a permit to own one of a few kinds of guns. NO carrying of guns is permitted by law abiding citizens, EVER in Australia. Same in Brown University, illegal to carry a gun for self defense. In Kansas, universities cannot block concealed carry on campus, and any adult who can legally own a handgun in Kansas can carry it concealed, no permit required. I have had a permit for many years, better when I am traveling.
