Affordability – for them.
One of socialist Zohran Mamdani’s first decisions as mayor could be whether to give himself and his City Council pals a big fat pay raise.
Councilwoman Nantasha Williams (D-Queens) pushed a bill Tuesday to bump pay for the city’s elected officials by more than 16%, with an eye to sending it to Mamdani’s desk after he’s sworn in as mayor on Jan. 1.
But the original plan for the bill had originally been to set up a speedy vote this month, before Mamdani took office – a maneuver council members had to scuttle when they realized city law blocked them from-

If only we could all vote ourselves $20,000 pay increases. People are crying about the "affordability crisis". They need look no further than their State and local Democrat politicians who have raised their pay/benefits and all kinds of taxes (property, sales, estate, business...) that everything costs more due to taxes.

Because they have done such a wonderful job under the last mayor. Surely Mamdani realizes that a move like this will cause him to blow up on the launching pad.

Meanwhile in the real world, I got a small raise. Yay!! Also in the real world, the raise will be wiped out by my increasing insurance rates and property tax hikes.
I suggest everyone in New York City read George Orwell's Animal Farm and really think about it.

Not being a New Yorker, I can only laugh and shake my head at the morons that voted for this clown. Will he sign that pay raise bill to give himself and the commie City Council a hefty raise? ''First order of business, Mr. Mayor, taking care of ourselves!''

NYC has been down this road before. I recall Mayor Abe Beame begging the feds for money to bail the city out of their financial mess. He finally got the money (taxpayers). Some credit him with saving the city from bankruptcy but he was the fiscal controller before he was mayor and should have seen the disaster ahead. When the banks and markets refused to buy any more bonds, the city teetered on the edge of bankruptcy which, technically, they had already achieved. Looks like they are already that way again.
The first sign will be NYC having to pay higher interest rates to lure investors but if you have any NYC bonds in your portfolio, I would suggest selling those and putting the money in more responsible municipalities. I doubt DJT (or hopefully J.D. Vance) will be as generous this time.

And so it begins….
Wonder when city council members will start building their “dachas” on Long Island?

In the private sector, one is lucky to get a whole promotion that gets one 16%. The ne'er do wells give themselves cadillac raises, and no one is supposed to notice and object. But, if the NYers don't care, I don't care.

For those who edon't understand my comment, every move he makes that lies in the face of his socialism and "affordability", "just want to take care of the people" t blather, is a nail in his political coffin. We'll see..

So this is how Socialism/Communism works. A pay raise for me, but not for Thee.
Not a good start Zohran.

They are 'entitled'. During the federal shutdown congress still got paid while the military and air traffic controllers did not. More entitlement on display and it's our government. Again, don't call them a government. They are our looting elites.

I remember back when the worst that could happen would be "Greeks bearing gifts." Then it was Democrats Who Grift. What do we call this mess, where every Muslim worthy of the name vows to hate-our-guts, or worse. State and local governments stayed mostly in the state. Now even all of those have visions of grandeur.

I hope Mamdani has the good sense to veto it. Considering the City Council is part of the problem why the cost of living is so high in NYC, expecting a 16% raise in pay while most of the population is struggling to pay their bills is deplorable.
