UN postpones vote on global carbon tax
after Trump-led pushback

Original Article

Posted By: Dreadnought, 10/17/2025 5:02:19 PM

After a U.S.-led campaign, the United Nations has postponed a vote on a proposal to impose the world’s first global carbon tax on shipping, delaying the decision by one year. The rule was expected to come up for a vote this week as part of the U.N. International Maritime Organization’s (IMO) "Net-Zero Framework." But a majority of member nations voted to defer it after failing to reach consensus amid U.S. opposition. Backed by the European Union and Brazil, the plan seeks to raise billions from carriers that exceed new emissions limits, channeling the revenue toward climate adaptation and clean-fuel projects in developing nations. Washington and Riyadh led the opposition.

First, this idea of zero-net emissions is pure ego and aspirational. It's not achievable, today, or any time close. The fuels needed aren't available, and they don't have enough "gas stations" around the globe, particularly in the United States (thank the environmental groups). Besides, despite all the push from the EU folks, they don't want to pay the higher price for the significantly higher costs of these new fuels. Ocean vessel emissions are 3% of the total global emissions. It would be significant if they can reduce by 50% or maybe 70%. They are within reach. Do not forget the Paris Accords had a timeline to meet their target (by 2100) and there are still almost 75 years left. Get the emissions down and work on technology to help resolve the remaining portion say from 2050 to 2100. Be reasonable, not punitive.

President Trump revealed Friday that Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro has "offered everything" to persuade the United States to back off amid escalating American strikes on suspected drug trafficking boats. Trump shocked reporters during a meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky when he was asked about Maduro's attempts to offer mediation. Not so much for the content of his response, but for how he delivered it. The President offered an expletive-laced frank assessment of the dictator's attempts to get him and Secretary of War Pete Hegseth to take their foot off the gas in disrupting narco-terrorists' operations. A reporter questioned Trump regarding Maduro's overtures. “It’s been reported, Mr. President

If James actually wins next year, the state’s political landscape would shift seismically, providing further evidence that the country as a whole is shifting away from Democrat policies. It's a win that would bode well for other GOP and MAGA candidates running for other offices at various levels of government as well. The Plymouth Union Public (PUP) Research survey shows James leading the general election field and crushing a crowded crop of candidates in the primary.

NYPD officials agreed to turn a sliver of Brownsville in the NYPD’s 73rd Precinct into a “police free zone” last week as part of an city-funded experiment called the Brownsville Safety Alliance that initially was only twice a year but now runs four times annually. And it’s an initiative that’s received praise from anti-cop, mayoral frontrunner Zohran Mamdani, an official with the group that runs it told The Post.
