California’s New ‘Holiday’

Original Article

For most, July 1 is nothing more than just another rectangle on the calendar before a major holiday. In California, it has become a day of dread – the day gasoline prices jump because of another fuel tax hike in the state that already punishes its drivers with the highest prices in the nation. Lawmakers passed, and then Gov. Jerry Brown signed, Senate Bill 1 in 2017. Known as the Road Repair and Accountability Act, it was Sacramento’s promise that the state’s cracked, potholed, car-busting and outdated streets, highways and bridges would be fixed. All that had to be done was tax California motorists enough to generate $52 billion

Cali is well on its way to becoming the Soviet Union lite. They have deteriorating infrastructure, fires burning out of control, ... Socialist policies ALWAYS lead to these things. They promise the moon and deliver a pebble in your shoe, while taking all your money. The only thing we can do is keep their problems confined to their state. NO FEDERAL BAILOUTS. No federal monies to dead end projects like their perpetual rail project that never gets out of the station. Let them wallow and collapse in their idiocy as an example of their stupidity.

The existing gas tax was supposed to cover that already. This helps postpone the taxing of EV owners by adding a mileage tax. But the EV mandate needs to take full effect before the people revolt.

Actually my local station dropped $0.10 last night, not that its now cheap at $4.79 but guess since trump is getting the prices down so much the tax increased was covered and then some.

When I moved to LA in 91, California highways were a marvel to me. Smooth, in excellent repair, landscaped and hands down the best in the nation. Since then, it's been one tax increase after another and the highways are not what they once were. My last trip out there was in 2007, and The state is not what it once was.

The Democrats’ Phony Freakout About Mamdani 14 replies

It has been amusing to watch Democrats struggle to cope with the success of 33-year-old socialist Zohran Mamdani’s decisive win in the New York mayoral primaries. Why all the handwringing? Mamdani is now the mainstream of the once great Democratic Party. The only difference is that Mamdani isn’t afraid to say what other Democratic politicians try to hide. Think about what Mamdani has proposed or supported: • A yearlong freeze on rent • A $30 minimum wage • Free bus service • City-owned grocery stores • Defunding the police • Calling Israel’s war in Gaza a genocide. “Mainstream” Democrats support every one of these positions

President Donald Trump’s eventful presidency continues to leave most Democrats and independents unimpressed, but he gets top grades from Republicans, the latest I&I/TIPP Poll shows. Can he build on recent policy successes to improve his standing with non-GOP voters, or will Trump’s strong personality, offhand remarks, and bold leadership style alienate them? Each month, I&I/TIPP asks voters to gauge presidential favorability, leadership, and performance. In the just-finished national online poll of 1,421 adults taken from June 25-27, Trump’s grades from voters remain little changed.

Faced with the failure of their policies, far-left and outright socialist Democrats in blue-state America are doubling down. Whether it’s New York, California or midwestern leftist havens Minnesota and Illinois, the socialist model will bring only more failure and misery to its citizens. And, because they voted for it, they’ll get what they deserve. We’re not gloating here. The Democratic Party was once a serious political group that based its popularity on appealing to centrist blue-collar working-class Americans and moderate urban liberals. The extreme left was largely, though not entirely, marginalized. Today, that’s sadly no longer true.

Zohran Mamdani, winner of the Democratic Party’s New York City mayoral primary, is overflowing with Marxist ideas of how to govern that are so lousy that it’s hard to believe he got more than his own vote in Tuesday’s election. Each of them is horrendous, from free bus services to rent control to punitive taxes on those who create prosperity, but none are quite so laughable as his proposal to establish a chain of city-run grocery stores. Mamdani’s campaign literature – overflowing with empty leftist jargon – says if elected he “will create a network of city-owned grocery stores focused on keeping prices low, not making a profit.”

For a brief window this week, President Donald Trump was out of the running for a Nobel Peace Prize, after a Ukrainian lawmaker withdrew his nomination on Monday for not ending the war there, and before Rep. Buddy Carter, R-Ga., nominated him on Tuesday for the ceasefire between Israel and Iran. You can imagine the guffaws and hair-pulling from the Trump-is-Hitler crowd at the thought that anyone would see him as a suitable candidate for this prize. But as much as we’d love to watch their heads explode as he walked up to accept the award, we think Trump should

Democratic Texas Rep. Jasmine Crockett, an ideal representative for the lunatic constituency, said last week that Donald Trump supporters are mentally ill. Has she looked at the party she is willingly a member of? Or even herself? No, because if she did, she’d realize that it’s her side that is not well. There are a number of patients who need to be seen, certainly millions, but first, we’ll check in with James Carville. While he’s no longer the Democratic Party’s hottest shot, and doesn’t have the influence he once had as Bill Clinton’s main hack, he’s still emblematic of the left’s descent into madness. Consider

Let’s not beat around the bush: as a speechwriter at the highest levels of politics and business for 45 years – including the most successful presidential campaign in history – this commentator can present you an undeniable truth. President Donald J. Trump’s remarks Saturday night in the wake of America’s “spectacular military success” striking Iran’s key nuclear facilities didn’t necessarily amount to an oration for the ages. But they did showcase a heroic man rising to a historic moment – and then some – with a pithy, powerful and pointed address.

The University of Pennsylvania has agreed to ban transgender women from participating in its women's sports programs, resolving a federal civil rights investigation centered on swimmer Lia Thomas. The U.S. Department of Education announced the agreement Tuesday, saying the university violated Title IX by allowing Thomas to compete in women's events. The case marks a significant moment in the Trump administration's broader push to restrict transgender athletes from competing in girls' and women's sports. As part of the resolution, Penn will reinstate Division I swimming records and titles to female athletes displaced by Thomas's victories and issue personalized apology letters to each of them.

Pity poor Jaguar. The British-based luxury and performance carmaker has had a rough go of it this century, but nothing could prepare anyone for the most bone-headed move in corporate history — and I don't mean Jaguar's woke "Reimagine" ad from late last year. Let me bring you up to speed. As recently as 2018, Jaguar sold 180,833 cars annually. Last year, they sold fewer than 33,000. In April — the most current sales figures available — Jag sold just 49 cars in the massive UK/Europe market. U.S. sales figures aren't available yet, but they aren't any better. Jaguar went from selling 1,961 cars a month to 49 in just six years.

The US President’s administration announced it had slashed 83 per cent of programmes run by the US Agency for International Development (USAID) shortly after he returned to the White House for a second term. And now research published in the leading medical journal, Lancet, has predicted that 14 million people – 4.5 million of whom are children under the age of five – could die by 2030 as a result. Prior to Zohran Mamdani’s election in the primary, his absurd and speculative plans to provide all kinds of freebies to the citizenry were the talk of the town: Mamdani’s platform focused on a number of issues that have animated socialists in the Democratic Party, including raising the minimum wage, hiking taxes on corporations and wealthy Americans, cracking down on delivery apps, as well as investing in affordable housing and creating city-owned grocery stores. His campaign proposes a new minimum wage law that would raise the wage floor for

The Democrats are now implacably self-destructive. They resemble nothing so much as a slowly capsizing ship, but show by their frenzied skullduggery that America is not in decline -- the opposition is rotten and hopeless but it still fights savagely. I hope readers will pardon a recitation of the party's gradual floundering. They pushed the nation into Vietnam, mismanaged the war, and deserted their own president (Lyndon Johnson), and when President Nixon saved their war, they crucified him on what can now be seen as the utterly absurd Watergate nonsense.

Is he antisemitic or just pro-Palestinian? Is he anti-ICE or just pro-immigrant? However, one thing seems to be increasingly clear. Mamdani is a serious Marxist and that should concern anyone in New York City.
