Not long ago, I ran into a long-lost acquaintance who always assumed — always incorrectly — that I was simpatico with her leftist leanings. Maybe it was my long hair or dangling earrings or that I liked to listen to Joe Cocker.
I remembered that she always appeared distressed — not because of a cancer diagnosis or trouble with her two children or a problem in her marriage or with her job as private secretary to a malpractice lawyer, but because of one or another of the endless planet-killing problems that occupy the daily bad thoughts and the nightmares of liberals.

President Johnson tried proportionality in Vietnam. I think it turned out poorly.

Leftism is closely associated with serious mental disorder. IMO, the causality arrow direction is still unclear.
Are the mentally deranged attracted to leftist ideas or are political leftists driven insane by, as the Red Queen said, "believing in impossible things"?
Either way, leftist are nutcases.

Hmm. What should have been Israel's proportionate response? To do exactly and only what Hamas did? Send in commandos, purposefully butcher only 1200 people (let's keep it equivalent now!) rape women, display the broken bodies of killed Gazan women to cheering crowds, and seize 300 capiives, killing many of them over time? How would that suit anti-semites likes Sens. Doug Kaine (he of the worthless lawbreaker son) and Chris Murphy.

Two thoughts about these people who are so clueless: 1) Apparently no one ever beat it into their heads that life's not fair, and 2) perhaps this whole proportionality crap is a holdover from sports with no winners and participation trophies.

Good article but a tiny tangent: They're now claiming that the Hiroshima bomb killed over 300,000 people. When I read Hersey's book... I think it was about 80,000.

#6 - I wholeheartedly agree with your second point; that "proportionality" is a holdover from the "no-winners and participation trophies" era. I also came to that conclusion a long time ago. The masterminds of "progressivism" do everything in their power to destroy all aspects of individual humanity in every person they meet. Their motivating goal is the destruction of our Judeo-Christian civilization. They are the minions of Satan and hate God. They've had a century to sow discord and dysfunction, but have only produced bitter fruit.
Those of us who rejected this bitter fruit at last have a champion with President Trump, and other strong men and women are joining his administration with wholehearted commitment. They are waving high the banners of truth and the long-suffering citizens of our Republic are responding with enthusiastic gusto. The scourge of "progressivism", an euphemism for communism, was infused into our political system about one-hundred years ago by Woody Wilson, and implemented on steroids by FDR's twelve years. It is interesting that after FDR's four terms, the "powers that be" changed the Constitution and limited presidents to two terms while no limits were put on the terms of congressmen and senators.
I've also been thinking about the significance of Pope Leo XIII's vision of the 20th century; wherein Satan was given free-reign for one-hundred years. After suffering through the horrific visions, he composed our beloved Prayer to St. Michael the Archangel. I find it no coincidence our new pope has chosen the name Leo IV. Well, Satan's century is over and the remnant of righteous people are having their say in the conversation.
Saint Michael the Archangel defend us in battle. Be our protection against the wickedness and snares of the devil. May God rebuke him, we humbly pray; and do Thou, O Prince of the heavenly host, by the power of God caste into hell Satan and all the evil spirits who prowl about the world seeking the ruin of souls. Amen

Don't miss this terrific article. It was a painful reminder of my last conversation with a longtime liberal "friend" back in 2020. He had just retired from one of those filthy blue cities and moved to Florida. He was a smart computer engineer but he came up with these gems:
"I think all overdue student loans should be payed by the taxpayers. I don't mind paying."
"I don't care if Pete Buttigieg is gay, that won't prevent him from doing a good job."
"I won't have a gun in my house, if somebody breaks in they can just shoot me."
"Joe Biden will make a much better president than Donald Trump."
"It's not fair that my wife got sick just as she retired."
"One of my friends won't speak to me any more because we had a heated conversation about politics."
Needless to say, he provided a stronger definition of the word, "clueless."

Agree #1. The false proportionality construct took on legs during the Vietnam War. Cronkite and the rest of the leftist media ignored a lot of the atrocities committed by the Viet Cong and North Vietnam and concentrated on South Vietnamese and, yes, American brutality. Israel is facing the same nonsense now from the leftist crowd.
This unfortunate philosophy has carried on through nearly all of U.S. conflicts since. The use of the proportionality argument prolongs wars, making them useless (see Iraq after the surge, thanks Obama) as the politicians wielding that argument gain the upper hand and force retreat from the hands of victory. Thank God that Curtis LeMay, Chester Nimitz and George Patton, and even Dwight D. Eisenhower did not think in those terms. We should not enter a conflict without having and using overwhelming, disproportionate force ever again.
