Reed to Hegseth: You are unqualified,

Sen. Jack Reed (R.I), the top Democrat on the Senate Armed Services Committee, told Pete Hegseth, President-elect Trump’s pick to head the Department of Defense, that he is plainly unqualified and lacks the necessary character to lead the nation’s armed forces. I do not believe that you are qualified to meet the overwhelming demands of this job. We must acknowledge the concerning public reports against you,” Reed said in a stinging opening statement at Hegseth confirmation hearing, which began at 9:30 a.m. EST Tuesday morning. Reed said committee members must pay close attention to allegations of sexual misconduct and financial mismanagement against Hegseth in recent years.

Like with Jennifer Rubin's sudden concern over authoritarian abuses, it's hard to take Reed's "unqualified" rebuke seriously, after several years of completely ignoring the issue for Democrats. Obama and Harris were the most blatantly unqualified candidates in the past half century, the former even being arguably ineligible, and 3 terms of the Obiden rule have featured a litany of authoritarian abuses too numerous to list. Hysterical hypocrisy, harumph.

I met Jack Reed at a college graduation a few years ago, when we were both on the dais. As soon as he figured out I wasn’t a Democrat, he refused to talk with me anymore. A real jerk. A family member has known him for years and was in the same party (sadly) and agreed that Reed is a low life.

The Safeway Food Store in the Filmore District of San Francisco has been beset with shoplifters and other criminal activity for years. The company finally decided in December that it had enough and was closing the doors of the store for good. George Gibbs, a long-time shopper at the store, acknowledges the problems. "I've seen people running out the door with stuff and running across the parking lot," he said. "I've seen folks walk out in handcuffs for stealing something." Black Lives Matter activists are now demanding that the store stay open or that another low-cost food store take its place.

~A week from today, America's uniquely unique "peaceful transition of power" will (supposedly) be over and Donald J Trump will be beginning his first full day as America's forty-seventh president. As I said the day after his tremendous victory, he should skip all the inaugural bollocks in DC and just have a brisk businesslike swearing-in on the Rio Grande by a justice of the peace (Coolidge-style) followed by 47's personal arrest and deportation of the first "undocumented" migrant to attempt to walk into America on his watch. It was a wholly serious suggestion - because America is dying before your eyes and there is no time to waste.

The Biden administration is banning certain natural gas water heaters from the market as part of its climate change agenda, a move critics say will jack up energy costs for low-income and senior households. The move in the final days of the administration will take non-condensing, natural gas-fired water heaters off the shelves by 2029 in a bid to reduce carbon dioxide emissions, which climate change advocates and President Biden say cause global warming. The new rules will require new tankless gas water heaters to use about 13% less energy than today’s least efficient tankless models.
