If anyone in the future cares enough to write an authentic history of the 2024 presidential campaign, they might begin by noting that American politics exists downstream of American culture, which is a deep and broad river. Like any river, American culture follows a particular path, which has been reconfigured at key moments by new technologies. In turn, these technologies, which redefine both space and time—canals and lakes, the postal system, the telegraph, railroads, radio and later television, the internet, and most recently the networking of billions of people in real time on social media platforms—set the rules by which stories are communicated, audiences are configured, and individuals define themselves.

As drone sightings over New Jersey continue to raise questions, a new tool could bring answers about the source of these flying vehicles — if the government could get it off the ground.
Earlier this year, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) began requiring all unmanned aircraft systems to be equipped with Remote ID technology, which makes every equipped drone uniquely identifiable to authorities, like a license plate on a car.
The FAA announced that it would provide a database that could be accessed by local law enforcement, but nearly one year later, local authorities still can't get into it themselves.

In a post on Truth Social, Trump spoke about the Panama Canal and how it was viewed as a “vital national asset” to the U.S., and how the U.S. was the “number one user” of the Panama Canal. Trump added when former President Jimmy Carter “foolishly” gave the Panama Canal away, it wasn’t for “Panama to charge” the U.S., “its Navy, and corporations” doing business in the U.S. high prices. “The Panama Canal is considered a VITAL National Asset for the United States, due to its critical role to America’s Economy and National,” Trump wrote.

President-elect Donald Trump will face a “big mess” once his term as president starts in the aftermath of a spending bill passed to avoid a government shutdown.
Under the spending bill, which was passed in the Senate on Saturday, the government will remain open until March 14, 2025, according to NBC News. The bill’s passage in the Senate comes after the House passed the spending bill on Friday night. NBC noted that in addition to the incoming Trump administration needing to address “another government funding deadline and a debt limit,” Trump’s cabinet picks need to be confirmed “through the Senate,” among other things.

On Thursday evening, Democrats overwhelmingly voted against the second attempt at a continuing resolution (CR), which aimed to fund the government and avoid a shutdown. The CR, backed by President-elect Donald Trump, included a provision to suspend the debt ceiling until 2027. While the proposal had support from the majority of Republicans, a few dozen of the party, along with Democrats, opposed it. As America watches the budget battle wage on, other questions have arisen: Who is that purple-haired woman screaming about "President Elon Musk"?
Videos of an impassioned Democrat lawmaker have circulated across the internet. The woman in question is the 81-year-old Congresswoman Rosa DeLauro,

At the heart of the Christmas story, nestled in the opening verses of two Gospels, lies the birth of Jesus, the long awaited Messiah. These words speak of a King born not in the grand halls of a world capital, but in the squalor of a manger—a place of vulnerability. As the angels proclaimed peace on earth, humanity was presented with the ultimate paradox: the Prince of Peace, born unexpectedly, in the midst of ongoing war and turmoil.
For centuries, the people of Israel had awaited the Messiah. Prophecies spoke of a leader—a descendant of David—who would reign with justice, righteousness, and power, establishing peace and ending war.

“There is something profoundly wrong,” Tucker Carlson said when discussing the latest actions of Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA), who soured many conservative allies after initially offering a 1,547-page spending bonanza and ultimately handing the Democrats a win.
Eduardo Neret, a former producer for Carlson and a conservative commentator, brought up the disastrous spending bill negotiated by Johnson, which essentially thrust Johnson’s future Speakership in the air.
“On the eve of Trump’s inauguration, right before Christmas, he tried … to shove through a 1,500 page spending bill that would have given Chuck Schumer all of the leverage with the debt ceiling going into next year,” Neret said.

A Georgia homeowner was arrested and charged with criminal trespass after attempting to move back into her home, which was being occupied by an alleged squatter.
'I spent the night on a mat on a concrete floor in deplorable conditions. While this woman, this squatter slept in my home,' Loletha Hale told WSB-TV Atlanta.
On December 9, Clayton County police and Sheriff's deputies were called to the home on Livingston Drive after Hale tried to regain access. A deputy, captured on body camera footage, advised Hale to consider the alleged squatter's perspective.
'Just think of it from this perspective, though. Everybody isn't as fortunate as you

Neil Cavuto was forced to leave Fox News because his show was a 'wormhole to another time' before Donald Trump took over the Republican Party.
The anchor, 66, ended his 28-year tenure at the network on Thursday afternoon.
It was rumored Cavuto declined to sign a new contract, which was described as 'a very generous opportunity' by the star on his last show. It is believed, however, that Cavuto may have been the latest cable news anchor to be asked to take less money, after similar reports of CNN and MSNBC talent getting their wages cut have emerged in recent weeks.

The big story this week is the how X (formerly Twitter) worked to dramatically change the American legislative process. As Chamath Palihapitiya said, "People are underestimating what happened here [The Continuing Resolution]. This was a multi hundred billion dollar grift that was stopped on a dime over 12 hours of tweets. You would have never thought this was possible. To put a dagger in something that big that had so much broad support just a few hours earlier is so consequential in how the United States can run going forward."
But if you grasp the background for this feat -- the story of how Axelrod and Obama,

When I was a kid, my parents taught me that any apology followed by the word “but” was no apology at all. In fact, they said, you might as well not even try. When I became a parent, my wife and I instilled that same point into our children - no justification, no buts - just say you’re sorry. So when I heard Senator Elizabeth Warren say in an interview on MSNBC, “Violence is never the answer but people can be pushed only so far,” I harkened back to the words of my parents. What exactly was the Senator saying?
