President-elect Donald Trump wants to turn the lights out on daylight saving time. [Snip]
“The Republican Party will use its best efforts to eliminate Daylight Saving Time, which has a small but strong constituency, but shouldn’t! Daylight Saving Time is inconvenient, and very costly to our Nation,” he wrote. [Snip] Some health groups, including the American Medical Association and American Academy of Sleep Medicine, have said that it’s time to do away with time switches and that sticking with standard time aligns better with the sun--and human biology.

I like Daylight Savings Time. It's less important now that I am retired and can operate on whatever timetable I want, but I loved it especially when I could get a lot done after work in the summers.

Daylight Savings Time needs to end. Businesses and other organizations may need to and can adjust their own hours to suit their customers and employees.

In the spring move forward thirty minutes (split the difference) and don't mess with DST anymore.

I would adjust to whatever the clock says within one year. Just make it always go through the same 24 hours, every ay of the year. If I want an extra hour in the afternoon I will stop working an hour earlier. (In fact, I always have work to do, no matter the time.)

I propose the entire world shift to GMT. So what if you go to bed at 8am instead of 10 pm. If it's dark outside, go to sleep. The nations of the world would adjust accordingly. Come on UN, do something worthwhile for a change.

This is great news. Standard time is the one that most closely aligns with nature and human circadian rhythm. If we kept Standard Time all year, the change into fall and winter would be more gradual and not so alarming with less daylight for those who have a hard time adjusting. Same with spring, as we wouldn’t suddenly be thrown into more daylight.

I am for eliminating DST. We don't need to save any daylight in Texas. And I am tired of the clock changes.

I love the geniuses that advocate for year round Daylight Savings Time, as if that does anything that year round standard time would not do.

Agree with going to Standard Time. The last thing I want in the summer is the sun baking our house until 9:15 PM.

I like DST. It's a treat seeing the sky still light at 10pm. It's something to look forward to in the spring. My father would disagree. He used to be a farmer and would grumble about DST: "Well, no matter what the clock says, you still have to milk the cows the same time each day!"

I've had to live with this annoyance my whole life. In my working years I had an hour of overtime every year, and six months later had to take an hour of leave. End it. Get us back to normal.

HALLELUJAH!!! At the very least, please get rid of those godawful extensions that were granted years ago, and restore it to April/May into October!! Crimeny, kids don't even get to go out for trick-or-treat in the dark any more!!

This will come as a shock to idiot politicians - - and the arrogant bureaucracy. Those bozos actually believe that they can create additional daylight.
Even the name is a lie - - Daylight SAVING Time. Hey, you jackasses - - you don't have the power to SAVE daylight. Only God does! All you can do is shift the clock around. It's Daylight SHIFTING Time - - not SAVING. We don't need the gummint to tell us what time it is. The whole thing is a useless farce.

I hope that is one of the first things he does. DST is not needed in NV. We have enough light and high temperatures without it. So does AZ, but they are smarter than NV because they just change from one zone to another without having to change the clocks twice a year. Please do this Pres. Trump.

All the cheerleaders for DST care about in "muh longer daylight."
So it gets dark at 5:00 EST instead of 6:00 DST. What are you going to do with that "extra hour" in December?
Permanent daylight saving time makes already late winter sunrises an hour later. The sun wouldn’t rise before 8 a.m. at my latitude for almost four months, The latest sunrise would happen at 8:43 am.
The farther north you live the later it would rise.
Stick with standard time.

Agree with #8, Go with GMT. And 24 hour clocks. No AM and PM. Everyone has the same time. No confusion. No resetting clocks twice a year.

Hmm, would it run backward from north vs south?

I hate changing all the clocks twice a year. Get rid of DST and get back to normal.
Anyone voting against this needs to stand up and say why.

I grew up on a farm and farm animals would not go along with the change. I would be delighted if it would just go away.

Easy fix for us. Not so much for the millions of pieces of computer software out there that do it automatically to "help" us. Idiots will make a big deal of it like they did with the Year 2000 fiasco that was going to stop the world and cause planes to fall out of the sky.

Believe it or not but most systems have a choice for dst. I know from living in Arizona for years without DST.

It used to be fun driving in AZ watching your phone jump times when you drove across reservation land with DST. As soon as you got within range of a local cell tower…bingo

As someone who worked 12+ hour days and 6 days a week, I hated DST. It disrupted my daily wake/sleep cycle and made me feel miserable. There is more than ample information on the health damages of DST. It is about time someone in government ended this BS!

#14, Not only animals, but children. It's hard enough to get them to bed without the sun still being out as your are attempting it.
Now that the kids are all grown and I am at the other end of the scale, I find that my body takes longer and longer to adjust to the change to DST and I have more sleep problems during DST than during Standard Time. Don't know why; it just is.
