Criminal defense attorney Bill Brennan said on Friday that signs point to Judge Juan Merchan postponing former President Donald Trump’s Sept. 18 sentencing date.
Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg recently declined to take a stance on Trump’s request to delay his sentencing date until after the November election. Brennan, who previously represented Trump, said on “CNN News Central” that Bragg’s lack of opposition to Trump’s request, along with Merchan’s language in an order delaying the original July 11 sentencing, suggests the Sept. 18 date will not be upheld.

The California legislature passed a bill banning local governments from adopting voter identification laws for local elections. California does not require identification to vote, but earlier this year, the City of Huntington Beach approved a voter ID requirement for municipal elections starting in 2026. This bill would override Huntington Beach’s policy.
“An overwhelming body of evidence proves that voter ID laws only subvert voter turnout and create barriers to law abiding voters,” wrote bill author State Sen. Dave Min, D-Irvine.

Robert F. Kennedy Jr. officially lost his U.S. Secret Service (USSS) protection on Monday, just days after his withdrawal from the 2024 presidential race.
Kennedy's press secretary confirmed the change in a statement to CBS News. Kennedy had gone through a long process to receive USSS protection in the first place, with his initial requests being denied earlier in the cycle.
It was not until the assassination attempt against former President Donald Trump in July that President Biden ordered that Kennedy receive Secret Service protection as well.

Former 2024 Independent presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. announced Sunday that he will “actively” campaign with 2024 Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump.
Kennedy suspended his campaign and endorsed Trump Friday afternoon, later joining forces with the former president that evening at a campaign rally in Phoenix, Arizona. Kennedy told “Fox News Sunday” host Shannon Bream that Trump will join forces with other Democrats as the election cycle progresses.
“I’ll be campaigning actively,” Kennedy told Bream. “President Trump is going to make a series of announcements of other Democrats who are joining his campaign. And, you know, I wanna make America healthy again, and so does President Trump.”
