When University of Pennsylvania sophomore Eliana Atienza was placed on mandatory leave for participating in an illegal anti-Israel encampment, she portrayed herself as a downtrodden victim of "administrative violence." An international student from the Philippines, Atienza was forced to vacate her campus dorm, leaving her "homeless" with no family in the United States to turn to, she told the Philadelphia Inquirer. A Washington Free Beacon review of Atienza's family, however, tells a different story. Atienza's father, Kim Atienza, is better known as "Kuya Kim," a celebrity television presenter

The Biden administration announced Tuesday that it will sell off 1 million barrels of gasoline held in case of emergencies — with the Energy Department explicitly citing an interest in keeping gas prices low over the summer driving season ahead of the November election. The fuel will be released from the Northeast Gasoline Supply Reserve, a component of the Strategic Petroleum Reserve that was established in 2014 after Superstorm Sandy disrupted gasoline supplies in the New York City area.

A Brooklyn ex-con whose murder conviction was tossed out by prosecutors is back behind bars – this time charged in a shooting that left a 19-year-old man dead just nine months after he was released from prison. Shamel Capers, 25 was found guilty in 2016 in the shooting death of 15-year-old D’aja Robinson with a stray bullet while she rode a Q6 bus in Jamaica after a Sweet 16 birthday party. Now, after serving just eight years of a 15-year-to-life prison sentence for murder, Capers is facing new charges in a Queens shootout last year that left another teenager dead in a hail of bullets.

I have observed and participated in trials throughout the world. I have seen justice and injustice in China, Russia, Ukraine, England, France, Italy, Israel, as well as in nearly 40 of our 50 states. But in my 60 years as a lawyer and law professor, I have never seen a spectacle such as the one I observed sitting in the front row of the courthouse yesterday. The judge in Donald Trump’s trial was an absolute tyrant, though he appeared to the jury to be a benevolent despot. He seemed automatically to be ruling against the defendant at every turn. Many experienced lawyers raised their eyebrows when the judge excluded

I'm not even going to bother to report on the results of the Harvard/Harris poll regarding the presidential race. If the results hold up Joe Biden is going to be spending a lot more time in Delaware. The cake is not fully baked, of course, but if the election were held today a lot of dead voters would have to be recruited to overcome Trump's apparent lead. And, while I understand the concern about ballot boxes being stuffed and vote harvesting tipping the balance, there is a margin beyond which you can't cheat, and we are likely approaching, at, or even beyond it.

American college campuses have experienced mass demonstrations and occupations by students and outsiders in recent months following Israel’s powerful response to the Oct. 7 terrorist attacks by the Islamist group Hamas. Do Americans support this? No, the latest I&I/TIPP Poll shows. Many average Americans expressed shock at the sudden violent, and well-organized, demonstrations and tent cities that sprang up at universities around the nation, largely in support of Hamas and the destruction of Israel. A solid majority of Americans are not happy with this, according to May’s national online I&I/TIPP Poll

To my chagrin, my "everything bagel" hole from a well-known commercial bagel maker is now three times the size of what it was last week. Where there was often no hole at all to sometimes being the size of a dime, the holes are now large enough to pass a shot glass through, leaving very little actual dough. (Bear with me here). I see this as yet another transfer from my wallet to Joe Biden's wallet. Or to the DEI reparations fund. As in all things government, we get screwed while our profligate government gets more and more ...

Since the advent of Castro socialism, Cuba has always been an economic failure, but does anyone know how bad it's really gotten? Pedro Burelli, who has sources inside Cuba, provides a useful tweet report of how bad it's gotten, describing shortages, blackouts and public riots, much of which are affecting the party's wealthy elites, which have, up until now, been shielded from the deprivations ordinary Cubans endure: Here's a Google Translate: AGONY CUBA All the reports coming from Cuba confirm that the island is going through its worst moment. The terrible economic and public services management has left Cubans in the dark and with sky-high prices. Blackouts and inflation.

(The Center Square) – Illinois legislators are working to change the term "offender" to "justice impacted individual" in state law, a move Republicans say disrespects victims of violent crime. House Bill 4409 would add Illinois Department of Corrections representation to the Adult Redeploy Illinois oversight board, but it also changes the word "offender" to "justice-impacted individuals." Republicans on the Senate floor said the name change could cost taxpayers thousands of dollars. (Snip) Republicans said the focus shouldn’t be on what they called the "poor offender," but rather the victims of violent crimes.

Given what we know about what has been going on in Justice Juan Merchan’s Manhattan courtroom, including the preposterous, over-the-top bias of this judge for the prosecution and his overt antipathy for the defendant, Donald Trump, what explains his willing destruction of his own reputation as a judge? Each and every legal scholar who has weighed in on the course of the trial, from Alan Dershowitz to Jonathan Turley and countless others, (with the exception of those paid by CNN and MSNBC) is gobsmacked by Merchan’s thoroughly unconstitutional rulings, gag orders, contempt charges, exclusion of practically every witness with relevant testimony for the defense, and his allowance of non-relevant

Inflation made the financial lives “worse” for 65% of US households, according to the report. Among those, 19% said it was “much worse.”...

The trial of former President Donald Trump is now in its sixth week in Manhattan. Even though it doesn’t meet every day, the court sessions are intense and can wear on all the participants. It is particularly unfortunate when they wear on the judge who is in control of all the proceedings. That is what appears to have happened late Monday, at the end of a very odd day, when Judge Juan Merchan abruptly ordered the courtroom cleared — of everyone, including press, even though the trial is public — when Merchan apparently lost his temper over a witness called by the Trump defense. The witness was Robert Costello
