Before getting into bigger picture analysis and intellectual discussion about FISA and the 702 reauthorizations, let me just reveal some inside DC crap that drives me nuts and at the same time will help y’all understand the nonsense.
First, the Intelligence Community (IC) tells congress, particularly the House and Senate Intelligence Committees, that all hell will break loose if they don’t reauthorize full electronic surveillance of Americans. Congress is petrified of the IC.
Speaker Johnson and all of the key participants are totally siloed from understanding that 702 has nothing to do with incidental collection of American data whilst the honorable IC were doing foreign intercepts.

Another lovely example of Congress exempting themselves from the bill. If reauthorized the peons would be surveilled but members of Congress? Of course not.

FISA is like J. Edgar Hoover on nuclear steroids.
Congress is surveiled just like the rest of us. We are prosecuted. They are blackmailed. Haven't you ever wondered why nothing good ever comes out of DC??

The corrupt traitors in the intel sewer warn all hell will break loose if they can't spy on the Catholic mom at Mass or mom and dad at a school board meeting or the Christian praying at a baby slaughter house but for the last so many years have stood by if not abetted the complete gutting of American tech and even government by the coummnist Chinese. I say let them wallow in their filth and give the American back our God given rights to Life Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness...by what ever means it would take to secure those rights AGAIN.

Every time Mike Turner was challenged on warrantless searches on American citizens, Mike Turner changed the subject and talked for many minutes on foreign databases. Really, Mike Turner is among the most disgusting liars in Congress.

It is way past obvious that the Intelligence Community (misnamed of course) ARE the Enemy of America. Maybe it's time to use the 702 process on THEM!

So, if FISA is so important, have the new terrorists that have come across the southern border recently been FISA'd?

In sum: “we’ve intentionally made America unsafe. So now you must allow us to spy on everyone! And then we won’t do anything to make America safe, or we’ll lose this power! So we’ll just use it to blackmail you and target our political enemies!”

When the US government targets American citizens the Fourth Amenement requires a warrant first be issued by a judge, based upon a showing of probable cause that a crime has been committed. That cannot be changed by a FISA Act or Patriot Act that permits the government to just rummage throught your emails, text messages, and phone calls on a whim because your political or policy positions differ trom theirs. The DOJ and other agencies are out of control in their pursuit of those whod don't conform to the Democrat standard line. But in the end, the renewal of 702 is irrelevant, because they are going to continue to do it anyway. "Badges? We don't need no stinkin' badges."
