About That Inevitable Transition to Electric Vehicles...

Original Article

A funny thing happened on our way to our all-electric future: reality. I've written at length in recent weeks about Presidentish Joe Biden's hamfisted and wrongheaded EPA rules meant to force everybody into electric vehicles, whether EVs suit their needs or not. But maybe nothing to compare to Oliver Price's headline on Wednesday, asking "Is this the end of the EV?" Well, no. But we're still far, far away from the end of dino-burning engines — and likely to stay that way for far longer than the grifters in the EV industry and the autocrats in Washington (and several states, too) would have you believe.

The right answer as always is consumer choice. I've chosen a gas guzzling sports car and a Tesla for my needs. Your needs may be different and should be catered to by the market. The government putting a heavy hand on the scales and choosing for us like the Soviet Union or Maoist China is the height of stupidity. Technology keeps rolling on. When solid state batteries get here, the fire risk will be zero, range will double, charge times roughly match gas tank filling and prices will normalize. We're about 5 years from that at which point many will choose an EV who wouldn't have before and many will not. And that's a good thing for everyone. Joe's puppet masters are low grade morons who know nothing about economics or auto technology or the power grid.

EV technology and support structure today are what ICEV technology and support structure were in the 1920's - primitive and not very good. If you buy an EV now you are wasting your money. Wait ten to fifteen years, then rethink the concept.

I had a balsa wood toy airplane with a rubber band wind up propeller. Didn't go very far, or very well, but it didn't guzzle fuel like the one with a glow plug engine. Wonder why I just thought of that?

I read that personal transportation accounts for 5% of world energy use. So, noodling around with the "how" that 5% is utilized - electricity vs gasoline- is absorbing all the public's focus. I saw a guy in the logging business in Canada who was asked about Evs. He said a logging truck uses about 2.5 MgW per day, and that there are 5000 in use in Canada. That's 12.5 Gw per day. The new dam Canada is building, Site C, has taken 15 years to build and cost some $20B and produces some 1.4Gw. The logging trucks will pretty much need all of that. And then there's mining and construction. But logging and mining and construction are evil so we can shut them down.

#1 you are right. From a performance and durability perspective electric motors have huge and undeniable advantages. But the drawbacks of battery technology currently negate them for a large part of the population. The culture of politicization and virtue signaling around them has also alienated a large part of the customer pool. I drive a big old Ram which I love but if the EV industry met three simple attributes I would buy an electric. 400 mile range no matter the weather (I rarely drive more than 400 miles in a day without stopping and admit it, 30 minutes for gas, a snack and bathroom break on a long trip is pretty normal 30 minute charge time, and infrastructure to support it And cost competitive to gas vehicles. Do that and the EV's will sell themselves.

Resale of EVs is in the dumper, too. Who wants a 3-4-5 year old EV that may need a 5 figure battery soon? Properly cared for petrol vehicles can run for 200,000 miles or more. I suggest Obiden mandate grants to EV owners who are under water at trade-in time.

Was on a Zoom call that related to one single portion of the EV program which happened to be related to Port Drayage at the Port of Long Beach/LA complex. The trucking association president mentioned all of the costs and obstacles (they don't build very many per year is one major problem). And how few small to medium sized companies could afford them. And range was a huge issue, as was the extensive time to re-power up. The Southern California Edison representative mentioned the massive costs, not allocated, just to get things started moving in a small way. There was NO prospect that the infrastructure would be even close to ready by the 2030 date. The costs would all be passed along to the customer. The port director was 100% GO, GO, GO, no let up regardless of the obstacles. Didn't want to hear of the challenges - just meet the goal by the dates directed. 100% zero emissions is a rich man's dream but not a realistic target with today's technology.

One of the things that frustrated me about Trump’s (first?) term was his seeming complete indifference to #TheResistance that manifested before he even took office. Unelected bureaucrats working in the ridiculously invasive executive branch’s many agencies, publicly declared war on him, and he . . . well, he did nothing. Until the final year of his presidency when he seemed to finally take aim at the problem in his own branch of government–we can call it the deep state, the resistance, the entrenched bureaucrats who oversee far too much policy in America and who are, apparently, answerable to no one. Not the voter, not the president. So then-president Trump launched

New York City Mayor Eric Adams is facing another legal matter that could cast even more of a negative light on his administration. Federal investigators are looking into complimentary flight upgrades he received from Turkish Airlines. The investigation aims to ascertain whether corruption was involved in Adams’ relationship with the airline and other elements in Turkey. "The scrutiny is part of a broad corruption inquiry that has already led the F.B.I. to search the homes of the former top New York-based executive of Turkish Airlines and aides to Mr. Adams, who has frequently traveled abroad and has made no secret of his affinity for flying on the Turkish carrier.

The Biden campaign is celebrating following the announcement on Thursday that the No Labels group would not field a presidential candidate in 2024. “No Labels is ending our effort to put forth a Unity ticket in the 2024 presidential election,” Nancy Jacobson, No Labels’ founder and CEO, said in a statement. Jacobson, wife of former GOP strategist Mark Penn, said that the group would only have offered to field a ticket if there had been a credible path to victory. There never was, and No Labels is finished. “No such candidates emerged, so the responsible course of action is for us to stand down,” Jacobson said. She added that the group

Joe Biden officially abandoned Israel on Thursday during a phone call with Benjamin Netanyahu, conditioning further American support on stopping civilian casualties while demanding an immediate ceasefire. If Israel were to oblige, it would represent a full-scale capitulation to Hamas, which would be able to regroup and retain its power while not even having to release the hostages. If that all sounds familiar, it just so happens to be what Jill Biden recently demanded of her husband behind the scenes. Yes, the president's wife is apparently running the country. "According to a new report, while being confronted at a Ramadan event by a pro-Hamas supporter,

Conventional wisdom tells us that religious faith is on a downward slope, particularly when it comes to Christianity. Of course, there aren’t many ways to separate nominal Christians from genuine believers when compiling statistics, but many measurements show that Christianity is on the decline in the West. The state of Christianity in Europe can be discouraging. The continent that was once the heart and soul of Christendom is increasingly godless. But is there encouragement on the horizon? One podcaster and writer thinks so. Justin Brierley, the author of “The Surprising Rebirth of Belief in God” and host of the “Unbelievable” podcast, writes in The Spectator

PJ Media, like all independent conservative/populist media outlets, is constantly demonetized by Google. (Emphasis on “independent; we’re not competing on an even playing field with certain unnamed “conservative” outlets that are boosted in the algorithms via sweetheart Silicon Valley deals and then pretend they are besieged by “cancel culture,” nor are we talking about legacy media behemoths like Fox News that are not throttled in the same manner.) A little definitional housekeeping: by “demonetized,” we mean that any article smeared by the fickle Google gods with this black mark of shame is no longer eligible to host Google ads, which means it cannot generate any ad revenue for the company.

Happy Thursday, dear Kruiser Morning Briefing friends. (Snip) In the twenty-plus years that I've been writing about liberal bias in the mainstream media, I've never seen the hacks work as hard as they have for Joe Biden. Most of their past effort was spent on the character assassination of Republicans. All they had to when His High Holiness the Lightbringer Barack Obama was in office was scream "RACISM!" in response to any criticism of him. With President LOLEightyonemillion, they've had to create a man and a politician who never existed, then keep that fiction alive. They're still in the character assassination business too.

Social media was briefly abuzz last month about Presidentish Joe Biden's boat-anchor shoes, the ones meant to help keep him from falling. But the shoes aren't what really weigh him down — it's voter expectations that he won't survive a second term. Before we get to that, a little more on the shoes because I honestly can't get enough of that story. "Inside Edition" protested that Biden's Hoka Transport shoes are just "lifestyle sneakers"
