Pete Buttigieg said Wednesday there will be 'accountability' if an investigation finds there are specific entities or individuals responsible for the Baltimore bridge collapse.
The promise from the Transportation Secretary comes after President Joe Biden vowed the day the Francis Scott Bridge went down into the Patapsco River that the federal government would foot the bill for reconstruction.
The 1.6-mile bridge partially collapsed after a cargo shipping container vessel crashed into one of its support structures just before 1:30 a.m. on Tuesday morning.

Why is Congress securing the funding and not the shipping company?

The ship at fault should have primary responsibility... Expect them to evaporate as an entity. As a vital link of an interstate, highway, I would expect the feds to put up 90% and the state 10%. It would be proper, IMHO.tp convert this to a toll bridge. The indirect losses from the bridge being out? Incalcubly large, widely spread, and virtually impossible to monetize…or collect. Mayor. Pete…beyond his pay grade, and rapidly approaching his past due date

Pete will focus on making sure the next bridge isn't as racist. And will probably seek to insure the new one isn't named after Francis Scott Key.

Pete will insure that the DIE (oops, DEI) ops for the new bridge are quickly funded, staffed, and operational. Actually building the bridge will take years. Longer if Joe insists train tracks and EV chargers must be included.

With four container ships lots of cable and a big bag of c4 they could clear one section in 3 days. That will get traffic moving.

Sounds like the Insurance company for that "Dali" ship needs to step forward. Don't stick U.S. Taxpayers with replacing that old steel contraption. How many "infrastructure reform" bills have been passed by Democrats since Bill Clinton's terms in office? Where did all those hundreds of billions go?

Not a penny of taxpayer's money until they have taken every cent from this shipping company's insurance company!!! If it's not enough, confiscate this ship and sell it!!! That should cover it!!!

Re posters comments on the insurance company picking up the tab. As a retired agent, I can guess the ship’s insurance company will pay out the policy limits fairly quickly. However, that probably will only make up a small portion of the damage. You have deaths, injuries and massive property damage. Next under the gun will be the ship owner itself and will result in bankruptcy. Other suits could be aimed at the bridge architects, the city and whoever else the trial lawyers can think of.

The feds cover the cost because this is a federal economic issue concerning the ninth largest port in the country and because litigation is going to take years to recover funds from the ship owners. The region and the country will take a huge economic hit if the Port of Baltimore is not up and running as fast as possible. The port handles more new vehicles than any other port in the country. While certain makes such as BMW, VW, Mercedes, and Mini won't be affected because those cars come to another location before the bridge, many Japanese makes and others will be affected as will spare parts for those vehicles. Those makes go to the main port and all ships carrying those makes are shut out as long as the channel is closed.

Notice how quickly Buttplug arrived on the scene in Democrat controlled Baltimore to promise the rapid rebuilding of the bridge while the poor people of Republican dominated Palestine, Ohio are still waiting to get their lives put back together after the train derailment. Democrats suck!

The ship's owner, the captain, the pilot for starters. How about some insurance money on behalf of the shipping company. Here is a novel idea, how about the country that the ship is flagged under. Why is it that the American taxpayer is always stuck with the bill. I didn't knock down the bridge, why do I have to pay for its repair???????????
