Blast from the past: Alexander Hamilton’s
pistols up for auction at Christie’s
could fetch $500K

A set of pistols belonging to Founding Father Alexander Hamilton is up for auction by Christie’s starting Jan. 18 — and could fetch an eye-popping $500,000. The pocket Flintlock pistols, which were for personal use, are not the guns Hamilton used in his ill-fated 1804 duel with Aaron Burr, where he died from his injuries. “They are small enough so they could fit one in each pocket, that’s why they’re sold two at a time,” said Martha Willoughby, a specialist in Christie’s Americana department. “They are ideal for close-range defense … if you’re accosted by a thief or something, that’s when they would come in handy.”

Comments:

I'm not interested - - but let me know when Aaron Burr's pistols come up for sale.

Only fired once. Only dropped once. Had Hamilton been required to undergo a background investigation he might have flunked for expressing violent intentions for Burr. I can think of better ways to spend $ 500,000.

The recent SCOTUS decision in the Bruen decision created a two part test for any gun law. First, the law must comply with the "clear language of the 2nd Amendment ", and second, there must have been a historical law of the same effect at the time of the Constitution being passed. The fact that many people carried a pair of pocket pistols liked this, whnever and wherever they chose without ANY legal restrictions proves that ALL gun restrictions on concealed carry are unconstitutional.

Users of X, formerly Twitter, mocked President Biden after seeing a clip of first lady Jill Biden leading him offstage after his January 6 anniversary remarks. Multiple users expressed amusement that the White House staff appeared to be allowing Biden’s wife to rush up and lead the president away from the podium before he could make any awkward hesitations or walk to the wrong end of the stage in confusion. RNC Research’s X account shared footage from the end of Biden’s speech near Valley Forge in Pennsylvania on Friday, during which he once again blasted former President Trump and his supporters as a threat to democracy.

When the stabbed and battered body of 22-year-old Italian college student Giulia Cecchettin was found in a ditch near Venice in November 2023, police arrested her former boyfriend, Filippo Turetta, for her murder. Such violence by intimate partners is not uncommon: Cecchettin was one of more than one hundred women in Italy last year killed by either a former or current intimate partner, according to the country’s Interior Ministry. What was uncommon was the public outcry over Cecchettin’s death, which quickly became a symbol of the nation’s ongoing crisis of femicide — the crime of killing a woman because she is a woman.

With concerns mounting that the Israel-Hamas war is expanding into a broader regional crisis, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken kicked off his fourth urgent visit to the Middle East in just three months on Saturday with a meeting with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan. The pair discussed strategies for containing the conflict in the Gaza Strip and other ways of promoting “lasting regional peace,” State Department spokesperson Matthew Miller told NBC News. Turkey is a NATO member and a key US ally, Erdoğan has been critical of Israel and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in recent weeks.

“It’s been proven that when you make it difficult for people in their lives, they lose their ideological bulls – – t, and they get vaccinated.” So declared COVID superstar Anthony Fauci in 2021, championing government coercion for vaccines of which he falsely promised, “It’s as simple as black and white. You’re vaccinated, you’re safe.” But will Fauci be forced to abandon his own “ideological bulls – – t” when he testifies next week on Capitol Hill? When he uttered that recently unearthed line, Fauci was President Biden’s chief medical adviser and National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases head.
Phil Murphy shipping migrants out of NJ

Now The Post has photographic proof that Jersey’s Gov. Phil Murphy is a flaming hypocrite — for doing right by his state despite his own stated “principles.” Unless he thinks helping migrants leave your state is only a “stunt” when a Republican does it. On Wednesday, Murphy slammed Texas Gov. Greg Abbott’s practice of busing migrants from the border to blue states: “This is not a time for stunts. This is a time to figure out a solution that’s broad and comprehensive.” But when migrants show up on his doorstep, Murphy is shipping them right to New York City.

The Las Vegas felon who hurled himself over a courtroom dais and attacked a female judge earlier this week said he was trying to kill her and blamed his action on a “bad day” while refusing to appear in court to face the new felony charges he was handed. Debora Redden, a 30-year-old, three-time felon, was being sentenced Wednesday by Clark County District Judge Mary Kay Holthus for a conviction for attempted battery with substantial bodily harm. Redden’s attorney had asked Holthus to grant parole for the three-time felon, but she sentenced him to jail due to his violent past and repeated arrests.

The White House sent Secretary of State Antony Blinken and Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas on Wednesday to meet with Mexican President Andrés Manuel López Obrador, hoping to obtain his assistance in slowing the wave of migrants crossing through his country on their way to ours. The resulting “Joint Communique” from that parley reveals Mexico City has no interest in assisting an administration that won’t secure US borders. The trip itself, scheduled during a holiday week when little gets done in either capital, reeked of desperation, and nothing in that communiqué dispels the stench.

New testing shows that some popular electric vehicles fall short of their government-estimated driving ranges, underscoring anxiety Americans have about the range of electric vehicles. The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency range estimates listed on electric vehicle window stickers and at fueleconomy.gov don't have separate city and highway ranges, as they do with conventional cars and hybrids. Consumer Reports, the nonprofit research, testing, and consumer advocacy organization, put electric vehicles to the test.

Independents are more closely split: 44 percent believe states should remove Trump’s name from ballots, while 56 percent believe states should allow Trump’s name to remain on ballots. Both Colorado and Maine have disqualified Trump from their respective primary ballots because his actions in the wake of the 2020 election allegedly violated Section 3 of the 14th Amendment, which forbids

Ron DeSantis will drop out of the 2024 presidential race if he loses the Iowa caucuses to Donald Trump on January 15, it is claimed. Two well-acquainted sources within the DeSantis campaign, a significant donor and a high-ranking political operative, told The Hill that if the Florida Governor loses to former President Donald Trump on January 15, he is likely to withdraw from the race altogether. The announcement would either be made that same night or the following morning - - and with it a reluctant endorsement for Trump and the governor would not move on to New Hampshire, scheduled for January 23.

Mike Pence gave one of his full-throated denunciations of former President Donald Trump in calling for Iowa to help with a 'fresh start' in 2024. The caucuses on January 15 will produce the first tangible results of the 2024 primary elections, which have shown Trump dominating every poll so far with just some slight slips in recent weeks. Pence, who was in the primary running until he dropped out in October, wants Republicans in Iowa and New Hampshire to caucus and vote for someone other than Trump.

The plight of broadcast TV prospects has been woeful for years already. Cord-cutting - while acknowledged and battled for some time - has actually accelerated in the past couple of years. The carriage dispute between Disney and Spectrum in the fall of 2023 reflected this, as the cable provider was not attempting to strongarm the entertainment giant; it simply could not afford any higher fees due to customer flight. With more people jumping to streaming, the four major networks have experienced a severe erosion, with the annual top series-- outside of sports programming--not able to average more than 10 million viewers per episode.

There isn’t much left in this regime to shock the consumer of news. We have grown accustomed to the daily cavalcade of assaults on American freedoms in the Federal Register; both the autocrat-in-chief and his press secretary have mainstreamed the practice of lying about virtually every issue. They attempt to take both sides of foreign policy issues within the same speech, claiming to be supporters of Israel while supporting Hamas, claiming to be opposed to the risk of nuclear war while encouraging Iranian nuclear advancement. What is left to shock us, in such an environment? Well, sometime Friday, January 5, the story developed that Lloyd Austin, the 70-year-old

The Department of Defense didn't notify the White House that Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin was in the Walter Reed National Medical Center intensive care unit until Thursday. That's it. I've posted twice on the growing mystery of why the Defense Department failed to notify Congress that Secretary Austin was in the hospital. In the first episode, it was revealed in a Pentagon statement on Friday that Austin had been in the hospital since New Year's Day due to "complications" from an "elective medical procedure." This came as a shock to the Pentagon Press Corps and Congress.

The Democrats would be crazy to nominate Biden, and the Republicans would be crazy to nominate Trump. And yet, with the caucus and primary season about to start, here we are. With no sign that the Democrats have a way to get Biden off the ballot, and with mainstream Republicans like Tom Emmer and Tom Cotton lining up behind Trump, we seem destined for an election that neither candidate can possibly win. William Penn may have founded the state of Pennsylvania but the iconic historic figure could soon find himself canceled by the leftist cultural revolution that has wormed its way into the highest corridors of government. In a move that would be expected from totalitarian religious zealots like ISIS or the Taliban, President Joe Biden’s National Park Service plans to remove Penn’s statue from Philadelphia’s Welcome Park, a site that has become very unwelcoming to white “colonizers” like Penn under radical Interior Secretary Deb Haaland. The agency will be seeking input on the “rehabilitation” of Welcome Park, another of the authoritarian left’s Orwellian terms that mask its extremism,
