A Denver woman says she was just engaging in some "retail therapy" as she shopped at a Ross Dress for Less store on South Colorado Boulevard just before closing time earlier this month. But as she was checking out, she couldn't believe what happened. "It happened really fast. It was really loud and scary," said the shopper, who asked that her name be withheld as she feared retaliation. Three people entered the store, grabbed suitcases and bags from the store and began stuffing them with whatever they could get their hands on. The female shopper said the chaos went on

I continue to be baffled by businesses that stand back and let thieves rob them blind. Paying customers are outraged.

If these brazen flash mobs of thieves aren't locked up for a long time, they will drive all retail business out of any city they infest, turning once prosperous places into ghost towns. Deal with the criminals, or say goodbye to your city. Rule of law or rule of street? Shouldn't be a tough choice to make. If, for instance, a group of strongarm robbers comes into a jewelry store with sledgehammers, they should all be shot down on the spot. Zero tolerance.

Future shopping: Little kiosks where you shop virtually, while robots in the off-limits store pick your order. Pay first then get stuff at check out.

The laws are on the side of the shoplifter. I get the 'police blotter' from my local township. With all the cameras and online resources (that we don't know about), non-active retail theft cases are on the rise. Imagine, stealing stuff and thinking you got away with it. You are out there living your life, when you get a knock on the front door. It's an arrest warrant(s) for retail theft. It's a horrible way to impress your neighbors.

I wonder what would happen if a group of "toxic males" or women who are melanin-challenged charge into these stores to scoop up free stuff. Would these individuals be detained by store security? Probably so. I'm really tired of our two-tiered justice system.

My local grocery store in the Denver suburbs recently added guards, and one-way gates inside the doors. One of the department managers told me that she and her staff watch shoplifters walking out with stuff all day long.

Simple Solution to all of these retail thefts - Post a large sign over the entrance and exits of every store warning "Looters will be shot". Hire armed security guards with police or military experience. Follow through on the signs warning. It will only take one or two instances showing that the message on the signs is for real and believe it, this shoplifting and looting epidemic will cease immediately. One other thought, a lot of these businesses have large excess inventory which are dragging down profits. Can losses due to theft be submitted as an insurance claim thereby reducing the excess inventory and at the same time turning a profit on the thefts?

Colorado was one of the first States to welcome marijuana sales/recreational smoking throughout their communities. A friend who lived there said that theft/burglaries and DUIs and anything else related to drugs, increased at least 50% in these Colorado cities when citizens voted in marijuana sales etc. She said pride of home ownership went down with the government welcoming drugs into their communities. (who has pride when they are strung out) And this is when Colorado went from a Red State to a Purple State to a now Blue State. sad.

I wonder how much of the price inflation of 2020-2023 is directly attributable to stores trying to recover theft losses? If you're looking for a PhD dissertation topic that will crater your academic career this would be a good one. I'm guessing the number is not zero.

Life in my neighborhood and probably yours: I needed a few double A batteries so I headed over to Safeway Once there I found the batteries but they were in a locked cabinet which was necessary because of all the shoplifting Took 20 minutes to find a store clerk to unlock the cabinet because nobody works anymore. Then waited in the checkout line for a very long time for the same reason It's pretty much the same in most of the retail outlets around here when it comes to routine purchases. Like Ace Hardware, Walgreens, etc. Solutions: Move, go without or log onto Amazon.

Last Thursday, Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson held an event with law enforcement personnel and other “community leaders” to unveil his Memorial Day weekend “safety plan.” Holiday weekends in Chicago are notoriously violent, so Johnson’s attempt to curb it constituted his first “big test” as mayor. The consistent and senseless violence on holiday weekends is also why it was disappointing to hear so little substance during the event. Johnson briefly discussed how the Office of Emergency Management and Communications would “monitor citywide events and weather conditions” and all relevant agencies would coordinate with one another. He also tweeted that Chicago police

PRISTINA, Kosovo -- NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg said Tuesday that the military organization will send 700 more troops to northern Kosovo to help quell violent protests after clashes with ethnic Serbs there left 30 international soldiers wounded. “We have decided to deploy 700 more troops from the operational reserve force for Western Balkans,” Stoltenberg told reporters in Oslo, after talks with Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Store. The idea that polluters should pay reparations for climate change is gaining steam among advocates. Some environmentalists and academics argue the companies or states that are most significantly contributing to the climate crisis should be made to compensate the people bearing the brunt of its impacts. Advocates have been calling for such reparations for years, especially since evidence emerged that fossil fuel companies were aware of the impact of carbon emissions. But the idea is now more practically achievable due to scientific advances, said Adrien Salazar, policy director at the nonprofit Grassroots Global Justice. He pointed to the increased sophistication
