Former President Donald Trump posted a Memorial Day message on Monday honoring those who gave the ultimate sacrifice. The message was posted to his social media platform, Truth Social. The leading contender for the 2024 Republican presidential nomination posted, in all caps: “HAPPY MEMORIAL DAY TO ALL, BUT ESPECIALLY TO THOSE WHO GAVE THE ULTIMATE SACRIFICE FOR THE COUNTRY THEY LOVE, AND TO THOSE IN LINE OF A VERY DIFFERENT, BUT EQUALLY DANGEROUS FIRE, STOPPING THE THREATS OF THE TERRORISTS, MISFITS AND LUNATIC THUGS WHO ARE WORKING FEVERISHLY FROM WITHIN TO OVERTURN AND DESTROY OUR ONCE GREAT COUNTRY,

Thank you, Mr. President. As always, a beautiful message, sir. Yesterday, my wife and I traveled to Fort Logan National Cemetery in west Denver to honor our fallen family military members. It is most heartening. It is hard. But we were there. So were they.

I also appreciated President Trump's "shoutout" to the members of the military who are working to bring down our internal enemies. I figured there would be some "under the radar" action taking place and his mention of these individuals is welcome.

#5,#6~ For a pessimist, the glass is half empty; for an optimist, the glass is half full. Memorial Day has been celebrated/observed since 1868. DICTIONARY: CELEBRATE / to observe (a day) or commemorate (an event) with ceremonies or FESTIVITIES - To observe (a day or event) with ceremonies of respect, FESTIVITY, OR REJOICING - to mark (something, such as an anniversary) by FESTIVITIES or other deviation from routine OBSERVE / to CELEBRATE or solemnize (something, such as a ceremony or FESTIVAL) in a customary or accepted way - to CELEBRATE (a holiday) or HONOR (a person or event) Celebrating or observing Memorial Day is a matter of perception and personal preference. Whether choosing to celebrate in a happy manner, a solemn manner, or a blending of both, it is an expression of heartfelt gratitude for the valor of our brave men and women in the U. S. Military, living and dead. Criticizing others not falling in line with one’s personal preference is ungenerous. For the record, President Trump is a teetotaler.

If we are going to the dictionary #8, sober also means calm and respectful. That was not a respectful expression of gratitude for those who perished fighting for the freedoms we enjoy today. It was a disrespectful and disappointing rant that was completely inappropriate.

#8~ Without question, Memorial Day is and should be a day of calm and respect. Mortal man was given the gift of free will so choosing to disagree with President Trump’s Memorial Day “message” is exercising that free will; however, with the same freedom of will, others do not find the “message” disrespectful or a rant being completely inappropriate. President Trump accomplished numerous benefits on behalf of veterans which reveals he has a tremendous respect for members of the U. S. Military. For example: ~ Establishing November as “National Veterans and Military Families Month”. ~ Educating Veterans / “Ensuring military veterans receive student loans and educational benefits to which they are entitled and rightly deserve.” ~ The Homeless Veterans’ Reintegration Program / “Helps veterans get into and stay in permanent housing ... giving our military veterans the basic foundation they need to restart their lives after their noble service to America.” ~ Healthcare Access Military Veterans Deserve / “The Mission Act ... reflects President Trump’s vision that veterans need to be at the center of their health care decisions. Now veterans have access to local doctors and urgent care. They have a choice of health care providers and the VA pays the bill.” Previously, “our cherished military veterans were often forced to wait weeks and months for an appointment to see a doctor at a VA hospital. Sometimes, that hospital was located an hour's drive or more away from home.” ~ Protect Disabled Veterans’ Money / President Trump signed The Honoring American Veterans in Extreme Need, or HAVEN Act which extends the same protection for veterans’ disability payments that is afforded Social Security disability payments. Previously many “military veterans lost everything because their disability payments were declared income and not shielded from bill collectors. HAVEN “extends the same protection for veterans’ disability payments that is afforded Social Security disability payments.” In 1983, as a private citizen, Donald John Trump donated a million dollars toward the Vietnam Veterans Plaza in New York City to honor the 1,741 New Yorkers who died in Vietnam as well as 250,000 New Yorkers who served during that war. In 1995, the Veterans Day parade was in jeopardy due to lack of funding; Mr. Trump raised the $500,000 needed for security and the like with $200,000 having been a personal contribution. In 2015, the night Mr. Trump skipped the second Fox News debate with Megyn Kelly, he held a competing fund-raiser for veterans groups and raised $6 million, $1 million as a personal contribution. In 2017, after an Army Corporal was killed in Afghanistan, Mr. Trump sent his father in Queens a check for $25,000. In 2008, Ed McMahon, a severely ill veteran known from the Johnny Carson Tonight Show, defaulted on his $4.8 million mortgage and faced foreclosure. Mr. Trump saved Mr. McMahon’s house after vowing to buy it for an undisclosed amount and leasing it to back to Mr. McMahon who died a year later at age 86. To question the heartfelt patriotism of President Trump is most unfortunate.
