The criticisms that some conservative critics of President Trump have is that he had too much "baggage."
The "baggage" is Trump's confrontational style, his "mean" social media posts, and the myriad "scandals" during his administration. They complain that Trump's "baggage" makes him impossible to defend. They complain that Trump often invites trouble.
In Governor Ron DeSantis of Florida, they think they have their ideal candidate: someone who purportedly stands for the MAGA agenda but is devoid of "baggage."
So does the "baggage" make Trump a target?

The problem about complaining about someone's baggage is that if public relations people are constantly defining who a candidate is, sometime you do not know the real person until they are elected and we learn about their policies. I voted for Mitt Romny thinking he was a good, clean-cut guy, family man, smart, well-spoken, etc., and fact is, Romney is a globalist.
Better to have someone like Trump who defines himself. Trump is an America First guy and proud to be one,

FTA: President Trump is targeted not because of his "baggage," but because he is a challenger to the status quo in D.C.
Just wanted to reiterate this very important point.
It isn’t because of Trump’s baggage. It’s because he unpacked their baggage.

The only baggage Trump has are fake impeachments and indictments.

All the "baggage" is fake, fraud and lies drummed up by Hellary and all her evil FBI/KGB minions.

The orchestrated weekly narrative from the people who did absolutely nothing to lighten the load——Russian collusion, bogus impeachment, J6 set up, stolen elections. They said nothing in Trumps defense and refuse to acknowledge the accomplishments and policies of Trump administration. I’ll take his baggage over stalking horse with Mitt Romney as Secretary of State.

The shock of it all!! Trump was a liberal billionaire playboy who behaved like a billionaire playboy.
He is now a fiscal conservative and governed as a fiscal conservative. I really believe that he is the only one who can get this country back on track. Trump is a true patriot and will stand up to the globalists. What’s not to like about patriotism, peace and prosperity!! He is the man for the times and the only one who can get the job done.

As amusing as it has been to watch Trump make the left lose its collective mind, and remembering that he kept shrillary clinton out of the Presidency, he had his chance and blew it. He didn't build a border wall. He didn't tell Fauci to pound sand. All of the things he could have done, he sacrificed to his ego, and a serious President has better things to do than sit around and send out tweets all day. Sorry, but it has to be said -- no more Trump clown car.

I will help Trump pack his bags and take them to the White House with him.
A man with no baggage is a saint or a god and there is no such politician alive.
Give me a man who has made mistakes and survived and who knows the trick of others and is free and unbought.

I love his confrontational style.
I love his mean tweets.
I love seeing all the fake scandals finally fall apart.
I'm voting for him because of his baggage. I love his baggage. Bring on a whole plane full of his baggage!

Nice try, #7, but no cigar. Trump fought for what wall there is against mountains of opposition, much of it in his own party. The fact that we have any wall at all is because of him. As far as Fauci, Trump was as caught off guard at the bold and vicious attempt at biowarfare from his own people, as any of us. The entire world embraced this little puke and Trump was heeding the advice from his closest advisors, who we now know we’re in on it. He did in fact tell Fauci to “pound sand” but unfortunately the damage was already done. He managed the greatest economy this country has ever seen, and engineered the lowest unemployment rates across all demographics in decades. There were no wars under his administration, and a Israel finally saw its embassy rightfully moved to Jerusalem, despite Muslim wailing and gnashing of teeth. He demanded our “allies” start paying their own way on defense, and made sure we got more conservative(ish) SCOTUS justices. And, he did it all while tweeting his behind off at 3 am. If that’s a clown car, I need to get me a ride.

Every one has their own idea of what constitutes "baggage." I really don't care about "baggage.". I do find it interesting that some people believe that the left haven't started attacking DeSantis. The left attacks any and every Republican they consider a threat. Let's see what they do to Tim Scott.

Ron DeSantis has a lot of baggage. Only natural to know that because he was in congress. There is no way he was innocent of anything politically when he resigned early to run for Governor. Then there is the problem of his association with Cruz and Bush minions. Do we really want the Bush dynasty to have influence in the WH again?

It makes no difference. Whoever is the presidential nominee will be tarred and feathered by the media. They complain about Trump's mean tweets and for anyone else they will come up with something to complain about and they'll just harp on it to no end. "W Bush has no gravitas." over and over. And then comes the cries from our side as we surrender: Oh if he only didn't: say that, or talk like that, or blink his eyes like that, or walk like that, or breath like that, or had some gravitas, or have that smirk on his face.
And people like me will be saying, Smirk? What smirk? I don't see it. And they will harp on that smirk just like they did the Covington Catholic high school kid. And I just couldn't see a smirk. I even had to look up the definition of smirk and still I couldn't see it. But the mass media will insist they see it.

I will vote for Trump if he gets the nomination but it is true he is riddle with baggage. Biden is in office because of the anti-Trump sentiment not because people like Biden. History could repeat itself if Trump gets the nomination.

It is not "baggage" that made me tap the brakes on Trump but rather his lack of conservative vision and/or his inability to consistently govern as a conservative. Since 2016, Trump was apparently the closest thing to a conservative within the field of GOP candidates but conservative voters didn't possess the strength to overcome the COVID-related cheating of the democrats, outside from knocking Hillary out in '16.

I was at a Tea Party years ago and remembered this is what was said about Sarah Palin. This was in the Bay Area where those who attended were "conservatives". "She had too much baggage" and couldn't be elected president because she was too controversial (and we don't want someone who will attract a lot of media attacks). That was their thinking. That they didn't want a person running that the media would be attacked constantly! (How shortsighted!)
This was later after John McPain had lost his presidential bid and Sarah was thinking of throwing her hat in the ring when Romney came along. What these dummies didn't know, is that Sarah Palin would have been a better president than Mittens!

President Trump is a serious and educated businessman...he has a track record...he did it once before...and can do it again...so his "style" isn't a factor...his ability to get things done is...so if you are wounded by his tweets and personality...step aside and vote for whomever you think has the chutzpah to move America forward.....WE have a clear picture of what the rats can do based on the past two years...so?

Biden has become a disgraceful laughingstock and his dementia makes him dangerous. Complaining about Trump’s tweets or comments is a joke. His policies and conduct as President were awesome. He screwed up the Covid drama but who wouldn’t? He listened to medical professionals who were manipulative liars.

Yes, by all means, let's find the perfect candidate that has no "baggage". As previous posters have highlighted; it matters not if the person is a declared Republican or an everyday conservative, an elected official or just a kid on the steps of the Supreme Court waiting for a bus. If you are not actively working to destroy the foundations of our Constitutional Republic and the freedom of the individual, then you will be targeted and eliminated.
Do any of you ready to abandon President Trump really believe your alternative candidate won't be dragged through the mud by the media? Do you really believe if Trump goes away, they will stop targeting serious conservative candidates for President? Do you want fresh meat to put in the grinder? Some newbie against the machine?
Personally I prefer a man of experience, intellect, fortitude, and with a score to settle to go against the cabal in D.C. I'm sticking with a proven winner. I'm behind our Lion.
