Tina Turner, the American-born singer who left a hardscrabble farming community and abusive relationship to become one of the top recording artists of all time, died on Wednesday at the age of 83. She died peacefully after a long illness in her home in Küsnacht near Zurich, Switzerland, her representative said. Turner began her career in the 1950s during the early years of rock and roll and evolved into an MTV phenomenon. In the video for her chart-topping song "What's Love Got to Do with It," in which she called love a "second-hand emotion," Turner epitomized 1980s style

When you say Tina, you say legs and energy. I may be wrong, but wasn't Tina Turner and Whitney Houston both married to Bobby Brown?

Tina had an abusive marriage to Ike Turner. I read that she said when she left him, she had no money; nothing but a Shell Oil credit card. She came a long way on her own. She will be missed.

When Tina recorded "What's Love Got to Do with It," she nailed the song in its first take. Afterward, she asked the people in the booth for another take, unaware that she had laid down the master take. They were all crying. No need for another take. Been done perfectly.

back in the late 70's/early 80's I did a lot of concert security, primarily in Texas. I worked a couple of her shows, not only was she AMAZING as a live performer, she was verry good to the "Help"

R.I.P. Tina Turner was a fantastic performer who did not need auto tune. Karen Carpenter was also known for nailing it in one take.

I recall Ike and Tina performing at The Red Carpet Club in Waco during the late 60s. SRO - They packed 'em in.

Oh, wow. She was such a legend. I didn't really admire her voice so much as her, for lack of a better term, her total chutzpah on stage. She knew she was THE Queen on that stage. And what she had come through to get there, yes she had suffered and passed through the fire to greatness.
God give you rest good lady. We will remember you.

Oh and I would shame my mother who always told me for some odd reason as a child and teen that Tina Turner had the best legs period of all time. I was bewildered at the time but came to know indeed Tina did. They were fantastic.

What a great entertainer! Even if you didn't feel like getting up and bopping around the room, Tina Turner could make it happen. The voice she had, she made work special magic!
RIP, Tina Turner!

Great singer. The modern singers can’t even sing, much less equal her presence and energy. Sad, Tina, us old guys will miss you.

I remember watching this beautiful and larger than life woman sing What's Love Got to Do with It on MTV back when they showed music videos. I also remember watching the Her movie of the same title as the song back in 1993 when I was stationed in the Bay Area while in the Navy. I bought her cassette tape Private Dancer at Camelot Music in the local Oakland Ca mall and still have it to this day. Tina overcame so much to become one of the greatest artists in league with greats like Aretha Franklin and Patti Labelle and may she rest in peace.
