A trove of leaked Pentagon documents were circulating online for months without being discovered by the U.S. government — raising questions about how the administration missed them.
Images of the classified documents that circulated on social media in recent days were posted to a popular messaging website as far back as January. But they appear to have only caught the government’s attention around the time they were first reported in the media in early April. “No one in the U.S. government knew they were out there,” one U.S. official said. As to why they didn’t: “We cannot answer that just yet,”

Sen. Tim Scott of South Carolina launched an exploratory committee for a 2024 presidential campaign on Wednesday, taking a major step toward a Republican primary arena that former President Donald Trump has dominated so far.
"This is personal to me," Scott, 57, said in a video announcing the committee. "I will never back down in defense of the conservative values that makes America exceptional. And that's why I'm announcing my exploratory committee for president of the United States." Scott's move toward a White House run puts him on track to collide with fellow South Carolina Republican Nikki Haley, the former governor and United Nations ambassador who launched

On Wednesday’s broadcast of CNBC’s “Squawk Box,” Berkshire Hathaway Chairman and CEO Warren Buffett responded to a question on the causes of inflation by stating that “It’s fun sending money out to people if you want to stay in office” and when you just give away money, “something’s going to happen. You’re not going to have more goods and services produced immediately that can sop up that money.”
Co-host Joe Kernen asked, “What I was trying to figure out, Warren, is, in your long life, where you’ve seen a lot of different business cycles and you’ve seen hyperinflation and you’ve seen secular disinflation last forever,

We keep seeing Joe Biden deteriorating right in front of us.
He wasn’t a shining light to start with, even years ago, but he just keeps getting worse.
That became readily apparent in Northern Ireland on Wednesday. Confusion and disaster seem to follow him wherever he goes, and it permeates the operations of all his people as well.
Biden is visiting the country to commemorate the Good Friday Agreement — a peace deal that the U.S. was instrumental in helping to broker. Biden brought along his son, Hunter, who has been under investigation for years regarding Biden family foreign business dealings. Is that a vacation and are they reimbursing the government for that?

Elon Musk participated in an interview on Tuesday evening and ended up taking ownership of the BBC by the time it was over. In an epic exchange, the billionaire worked over James Clayton, a reporter from the British network, after he attempted to push claims about “hate speech” and COVID labeling on Twitter.

The clip is about four minutes long, and it’s worth the listen. I’ll transcribe a few of the highlights, but again, you really need to listen to the entire thing to get the full impact. Musk employs a strategy

I’ve written about Bryan Griffin before, and no doubt I will again. Griffin is the quarterback of DeSantis’ media team as his press secretary, having taken over from one of my heroes, Christina Pushaw.
Pushaw works the outside game now doing rapid response, and Griffin the inside, having to deal with the media on a day-to-day basis. As the media point person within the Governor’s team he gets all sorts of ridiculous media requests, and what’s great about his approach is that he provides the rest of the world with a front-seat view of how the media treats politicians it wants to destroy.
He doesn’t just describe his interactions.

The campaign. Not Nikki Haley. That’s the message. For the campaign to claim that Nikki stays above the fray, the campaign sent out a memo full of snark and vinegar. Haley’s campaign manager Betsy Ankney wrote the memo. Mostly she ripped into Trump’s “drama” but she made sure to include her opinion on Governor DeSantis, too. She did not, however, mention Governor Asa Hutchinson or Vivek Ramaswamy by name who have officially entered the GOP primary race.
Governor DeSantis has not officially entered the race but that isn’t stopping the others from jumping ugly on him. Everyone expects him to take the leap when the Florida Legislature completes its session.

Former president Trump on Tuesday claimed that President Biden does not appear to be steering the ship of his own administration, which he said has been hijacked by “vicious, smart” progressives.
In an interview with Tucker Carlson for Fox News, Trump projected that Biden will not be capable of running for president a second time, alluding to his observable deteriorating mental and physical condition.
“I don’t think he can,” Trump told the host. “There’s something wrong.”
Noting Biden’s absence from press events and general checked-out attitude, Trump said “it’s not him” driving much of the agenda being imposed at the federal level.

The International Monetary Fund on Tuesday sketched a bleak picture of what’s in store for the global economy, estimating that growth will slow more than expected this year.
The IMF said the “anemic outlook” reflects the higher interest rates needed to bring down persistent inflation, the deterioration of financial conditions amid banking turmoil, the war in Ukraine and growing geoeconomic fragmentation. “Below the surface ... turbulence is building, and the situation is quite fragile, as the recent bout of banking instability reminded us,” IMF director of research Pierre-Olivier Gourinchas said in the opening to the institution’s World Economic Outlook.
The IMF said in the report that global output will bottom out at

Democrats have selected Chicago over other finalists like New York City and Atlanta as the site of their 2024 convention.
The Democratic Party joins Republicans in selecting a Midwestern city to host the convention that will produce a final presidential nominee. Milwaukee will host the Republican National Convention in 2024.
Three sources familiar with the Democratic National Committee’s plans shared the news with NBC, adding that President Joe Biden informed Illinois Governor J.B. Pritzker before leaving for Ireland.
All three cities made aggressive pitches that they represent the future of the Democratic Party, but Chicago and Atlanta were viewed as the front-runners. Both argued that the regions they are located in

Whole Foods opened its 64,000+ square foot “flagship” store in downtown San Francisco in March of 2022. On Monday, the grocery giant announced it was shuttering that location — at least for now.
“We are closing our Trinity location only for the time being,” a Whole Foods spokesperson said in a statement. “If we feel we can ensure the safety of our team members in the store, we will evaluate a reopening of our Trinity location.”
A City Hall source told The Standard the company cited deteriorating street conditions around drug use and crime near the grocery store as a reason for its closure.
The closing is reflective of the struggles

President Joe Biden signed legislation Monday to end the national emergency for Covid-19, the White House said, in a move that will not affect the end of the separate public health emergency scheduled for May 11.
A White House official downplayed the impact of the bill, saying the termination of the emergency "does not impact our ability to wind down authorities in an orderly way."
The bill to end the national emergency cleared the Senate last month in a bipartisan 68-23 vote and passed the House earlier this year with 11 Democrats crossing party lines to vote for the joint resolution. "Since Congress voted to terminate the National Emergency earlier than anticipated,
