Fiddling America Away

Original Article

The last few weeks, the world had been writing off the United States as either crazy or irrelevant as it watches America cannibalize itself. Friends tremble at our sudden decline. Enemies rejoice. Neutrals make the necessary adjustments to join the ascendant non-American side. The symptoms of our decline abroad appear everywhere. The more Joe Biden brags about the crippling oil sanctions on Russia, friends like India and allies like Japan ignore them. And why not, when Biden has no idea how long the war in Ukraine will last, or how much wherewithal the United States can, should, or will give Kyiv, or how its on-to-Red-Square blank check will finally end?

Biden's crippling oil sanctions are killing America, not Russia. And Biden's crippling financial sanctions are destroying the American dollar, while the Russian Ruble rises.

Just say it VDH. Biden's policies are deliberate. George Soros's son has had how many meetings at the Biden White House? His father has written op feds bragging about his success in funding left wing District Attorneys. Not one ex president has issued a statement about the indictment of Donald Trump. The USA Fascist Party aka the Dem Party is out to destroy this country and all that is was built on.

The "Leader of the Free World" is leading a bunch of nobodies and wanna-be coat holders pretending to be the great defenders of right. Our "foreign policy" is aimless, half-stuck in the 1960 fighting "communism" and Russia rather than facing the real threats. Our domestic policies unhelpful. Those threats are not only military, but economic. Where is the US program to counter China's Belt and Road? There is none, but if anyone needs troops the US has a regional command to respond. Wars today involve technology theft, economic manipulation, industrial dominance, and investment in infrastructure in developing and third-world nations. And the US doesn't get it...we "need" that 700 ship fleet, multi-million man land force, and all the other trappings of a great power who cannot effectively use those forces when the balloon goes up. At home we are polarized because we don't think beyond our "tribes". Rather than find common ground, even among like-thinkers, the first demand is orthodoxy to a view, and attack for any other thoughts. It's not just Libs vs Conservatives, Dems vs Republicans, rather it's every man for himself. Many are bullied into quiet, seething nonetheless within their powerlessness to even speak. And, of course, now it's tyt for tat, using the courts with politically useful judges, however one can deploy them. We have met the enemy, and he is indeed us.

“Fiddling away”. Doing nothing. Not even wanting to know about serious matters when they can hide out in the unserious. And then go to bed, only to wake and repeat. So America suffers the sins of omission—squabbling over the nonessential—and commission—losing wars, going broke, ruining its economy, flirting with civil war. We know these are all self-inflicted wounds. But apparently, we believe their remedies are worse than the original maladies. And so we fixate only on the irrelevant that we think we can address while ignoring the existential we know we no longer can solve. The sins of omission.

Once again, VDH is frustrating for the simple reason we know what the problem is, but the solution is not addressed. It makes me believe there is not one that does not involve a heavy price most of us do not wish to pay. Everyday I watch as the country descends into chaos as the best minds in the country don’t have a solution. We are living a nightmare existence. Are we the living dead and completely unaware of it?

The geopolitical plates are shifting violently as China and Russia form a new axis of evil and once reliable allies are moving away from the United States and toward our adversaries. Even a major NATO member is openly rejecting American leadership on Taiwan. But don’t even think about blaming any of this on Joe Biden. The world is churning but the buck never, ever stops on his desk. The latest example of his media free pass appears via a front page New York Times article that bemoans what it calls a “dearth of diplomacy.”

Ernest Ramirez, a car-wash technician in a small, south Texas town, led a simple but fulfilling life with his son, Ernesto Junior. Junior was a “wonderful child, full of smiles.” Ramirez had raised his son alone; he’d never known his own father and sought to provide Junior with the paternal love he had missed. A talented baseball player, Junior dreamed of playing professionally. The two lived paycheck to paycheck but were happy because, as Ramirez put it, they had each other. Then, on April 19, 2021, 16-year-old Junior—who had no previous health problems—received the first dose of the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine. Five days later, the young athlete collapsed while running.

Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg on Tuesday filed a federal lawsuit against Rep. Jim Jordan, alleging that the Republican lawmaker is trying to wage a campaign of intimidation over his prosecution of former President Donald Trump. In his lawsuit, the Democratic D.A. said he's taking legal action "in response to an unprecedently brazen and unconstitutional attack by members of Congress on an ongoing New York State criminal prosecution and investigation of former President Donald J. Trump." Bragg is asking a judge to invalidate subpoenas that Jordan, the chair of the House Judiciary Committee, has or plans to issue as part of an investigation of Bragg's handling of the Trump case.

Residents living near Portland's Willamette River have witnessed a series of homeless cabins and structures being built on prime river real estate with "million-dollar" city views but have so far been unable to get anyone to do anything about it. "Pretty much everyone comes back and says that they don’t have jurisdiction because it’s Union Pacific, it’s a railroad," Ric Scaramella, who owns a condominium on the other side of the Willamette River, told KOIN in a report Sunday. Scaramella told the outlet that people across the river from his home have been building makeshift cabins, complete with doors, windows and sometimes even solar panels, on the banks of the river

Officials in the United States are scrambling to identify the source of an apparent breach of highly classified documents. The leak reportedly gives details on a range of topics, including Ukraine's air defense and Israel's spy agency. Chris Meagher, assistant to the secretary of defense for public affairs, told reporters on Monday that the online leaks presented a "very serious" risk to national security. What is the latest? Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin has reached out to allies and worked to assess the leaks since he became aware of them on Thursday, Meagher said. The department is looking closely at "how this type of information is distributed and to whom," he added.

The FBI recently sought to develop sources inside Christian churches and Catholic dioceses as part of an effort to combat domestic terrorism, according to internal documents released by House Judiciary Committee on Monday. The internal documents — obtained last month by House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jim Jordan, R-Ohio, and Rep. Mike Johnson, R-La., who are also members of the so-called Weaponization Subcommittee — showed the FBI planned to use churches as "new avenues for tripwire and source development." The federal law enforcement agency also aimed to specifically target "mainline Catholic parishes" as part of its efforts.

This month, there was an “assault on democracy” in Tennessee. It was not three members halting the legislative process, but rather their expulsion. It appears that nothing says democracy like a bullhorn and obstructing legislative work. I recently wrote a column on how American politics has become a simple matter of amplification after Democrats stopped the Tennessee House proceedings with a bullhorn to protest the lack of gun control measures. I noted, “Today, for many, there is no room for nuance. Instead, they live in a world occupied only by ‘fascists’ and ‘insurrectionists.’ ” Right on cue, Vice President Kamala Harris and Rep. For decades IQs were climbing in the Western World. It was called the “Flynn effect.” Average IQs were defined as 100 in each succeeding iteration of the IQ test, as by definition the average was normed to 100. But if you rescored earlier IQ tests based upon prior norms, the average IQ would have increased by about 15 points or one standard deviation. In other words, if you took an IQ test in 1942 and scored 100, by today’s scoring you would have an IQ of 86. That is, until the past 10 or so years. In the past 10 years, IQs have been dropping, and dropping pretty fast.

The vehicle pollution standards, proposed Wednesday by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and announced by the White House, will impact car model years 2027 through 2032. The White House said the regulations would "protect public health" by achieving carbon emission reductions of nearly 10 billion tons by 2055 and would save consumers an average of $12,000 over the lifetime of vehicles. "Cars and truck manufacturers have made clear that the future of transportation is electric," the White House stated in a fact sheet.

There has been a spate of high-profile violence lately by women who think they are men and, especially, by men who think they are women. In Nashville, a woman pretending to be a man slaughtered six in an elementary school, including three 9-year-olds. Beforehand, the shooter had written a “manifesto” that evidently justified her shooting spree on the grounds that the school – a Christian grade school – failed to endorse her perversion. (We don’t know for sure what the manifesto says because the cops won’t release it – which suggests that it does indeed say that.)

History may someday record today as the beginning of the end of the internal combustion engine – and of individual liberty in the U.S. According to news reports, the EPA is scheduled to release proposed auto emissions standards today on new car sales so stringent that the only way for automakers to meet them would be to shift two-thirds of their fleet to electric. But wait. How can a regulatory agency do that? Consumers aren’t demanding electric cars. Lawmakers didn’t vote to force them on the public. The Environmental Protection Agency knows better, though, and, unless it’s neutered, plans to force EVs on you – for your own good.
