PORTLAND, Ore. – New data show how much Oregon has been impacted by the homelessness crisis since the start of the pandemic, and how we compare with the rest of the county. According to the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, the Pacific Northwest saw some of the highest numbers of people unhoused from 2020 to 2022: nearly 18,000 in Oregon and more than 25,000 in Washington. (Snip) Drive around Portland and it’s hard to ignore the blocks lined with tents as the homelessness crisis becomes more severe. Now, data is also showing just how much this crisis continues

Comments:

Oregon just committed to spending another $200 million on the homeless. So expect lots more on the way.

While I am sympathetic towards the homeless who are there through no fault of their own, I have none at all for the communities and courts which have emboldened the criminals and made mental health and drug treatment optional. Elections DO have consequences. Let them swim in it.

In olden days most of these people would have been in nuthouses but liberals closed the nuthouses to “mainstream” them

When you tax something you get less of it. When you subsidize something you get more of it. These states are subsidizing homelessness. Only a leftist would expect the problem to decrease under the circumstances.

The people of these states are the most loyal of Biden's constituents, homely and homeless alike. He must build shelters-- condos actually, well accoutered and cable connected, for those he can, And send the rest to red states

No doubt with the coming influx of illegal aliens into those socialist Democrat run States, the State Governments will no doubt build and provide so-called affordable housing and other benefits for the incoming illegal aliens to make them comfortable in those States so that they will bring their extended foreign families into the USA and to those States. Remember the poor and uneducated illegal aliens of today are considered by the Democrats to be future socialist Democrat supporters and voters of tomorrow.

Oregon has effectively legalized narcotics, so surprisingly a lot of drug addicts have moved to Oregon. Oregon, I am betting, has some of the most restrictive land use laws in the country, resulting a govt created shortage. Oregon has each legislative session imposed more and more restriction on landlords; Portland is even worse. Landlords are reluctant to invest. Landlords are also faced with some of the highest income taxes in the country, and Oregon has imposed a so-called Corporate Activity Tax which is sort of like a European VAT tax on steroids. Oregon has shut down most of its facilities for the mentally ill, because it deprives them mentally ill of their rights. The sole remaining Mental Hospital is at maximum capacity, and regular hospitals are complaining about being a dumping ground for the mentally ill. In short, run a third world govt, get third world problems. Duh.

Keep it that way. What you subsidize you get more of. I say take Oregon and anybody without a home can go there. Sorta like the wild west.

Logic 101: If you want lots of bees in your yard, you plant a lot of flowing pants to attract them. If you want lots of homeless in your state, you make it very attractive for them to be there (free stuff everywhere, let them camp wherever they want, no arrests for drugs or breaking laws, etc, etc) Works for me. They are already lie-beral Demon-Rat states, so they are already third-world cesspools in their major cities. I think the red states should offer their homeless free transportation out there. It's a win/win for everybody!!!!!

In particular, Biden took credit for investing in new, clean energy projects and "bringing the supply chain back to America" through the passage of the Inflation Reduction Act and the CHIPS and Science Act, and his remarks closely resembled speeches the president has recently delivered in Maryland, Wisconsin, and Pennsylvania. When the United States government makes considerable resources available for new industries, what does that do to businesses?" Biden asked Monday.

Oil prices soared nearly 6% on Monday after Saudi Arabia and other major oil producers said they will cut production by 1.15 million barrels per day from May until the end of the year. The cuts in oil output by the so-called OPEC+ countries immediately pushed crude costs higher and were expected to boost gas prices in the U.S. and other countries. Higher oil prices also will complicate the efforts by central banks to rein in inflation. "This will create both political waves across Europe and even higher general inflation in the USA, leading to renewed pressure on the Federal
