Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis toughened his stance on Russian President Vladimir Putin, calling Putin a “war criminal” who should be “held accountable” for the invasion of Ukraine, just days after he claimed the Ukraine war is not a “vital national interest.”
DeSantis angered Republican hawks, Never Trumpers, and neocons less than two weeks ago when he characterized the Ukraine-Russia conflict as a “territorial dispute” that is not a “vital” U.S. interests.
DeSantis told Fox News’s Tucker Carlson:
While the U.S. has many vital national interests — securing our border, addressing the crisis of readiness within our military, achieving energy security and independence, checking the economic, cultural, and military power of the Chinese

Sadly, this is proof DeSantis is in the pocket of the globalists, the WEF, the Uniparty, the GOPe.
He spoke from his gut and heart then his monied interests told him to "pivot."

DeS has disqualified himself. That’s not how you do diplomacy. I wondered whether he had a knack for it. He doesn’t.

Both statements are true and are nog mutually exclusive. How is that not obvious?

He's going too far now. He should just pay attention to Florida and be the best governor he can be for now. He's getting bad advice and likely from the Bushes.

#3 Is absolutely correct. The word vital means necessary to the continuation of life. For the US, Ukraine can still be of concern without being of vital national interest. But that has nothing whatsoever to do with the international response to Putin. Two different issues.

DeSantis is a politician for sure, and after testing the wind he felt he needed to appease some. By statements he made in a recent interview I think he is going to announce a bid for president at some point, and maybe he feels its more prudent to hedge his bet in a controversial issue.

Actually, Zelensky and BiteMe Diaper are the ones who should be tried for war criminals and scamming taxpayers' money.

Oh no, Ron. That was bad.
You do not declare the leader of a major nuclear power to be a war criminal while he still has power. You're limiting your diplomatic options and forcing his hand to keep going forward with the war.
If he loses and gets kicked out yet not killed by his own people then go ahead and have a silly trial for him. He'd already be a dead man walking anyway.
Very serious mistake.

DeSantis is right. Two things can be true at the same time. The dispute in the Ukraine is definitely a territorial one. Family members are on both sides of this conflict and the Russian people don't seem to be supporting it. Putin is a war criminal but let's face it he isn't the worst one out there in Never Never Land. More than half of the nations in the UN have leaders who are much worse than he is. and who are killing their own people on a daily basis.
This push to go to war and see our young men shed American blood and spend American treasure at a time when we can ill afford it does no one any good. A push for a negotiated solution at this time should be welcomed by all sides. China is stirring this pot and we should be very careful not to get drawn by them into this trap. We like to have heroes but I fear Zelinsky is not one of them even though he is an improvement over some of the past leaders but overall that is not saying much when it comes to the Ukraine,
The politicians are always hot to shed blood if they think it will benefit their political positions, but once things start going badly, and even in wars that we have, won they have gone badly at times, those same pols will be screaming to cut and run. History repeats. and those who read it know it. Which is why the political elite would prefer to have the public puffing on a weed that destroys your memory and lets others write a false narrative on a daily basis. Memory is a very important part of being human and in control of your own life. It is the way we avoid repeating that destructive history, both personally and as a nation.

How about focusing on the failures of the current administration? I am sick of the pitting against Donald Trump or Ron DeSantis. They both are very good leaders. . .

#5 and #10 got it. We can question our involvement in Ukraine and demand transparency and accountability as to the use of the funds and weapons we are providing. We can debate our involvement and the risks of further escalation to a nuclear confrontation. Not every thing is vital.
But, Putin in waging this war should be held accountable for waging this war and other war crimes, such as the relocation of children. I see no contradiction here.

#3, that is not correct. His reply to Carlson was plain and clear. It wasn't an off-the-cuff soundbite; it was a thoughtfully written answer. Now, he goes on Morgan's interview and says that his answer was "mischaracterized." Really? Mischaracterize is a political weasel word and everyone knows that. It means one of two things: 1) I lied to make people happy, or 2) I am lying to make the people that matter $$$$$$$$$$$ happy.
With this flip-flop he has revealed himself much more than he wants to at this point and has alienated any conservative support he may have gotten from on-the-fence America First folks.

Desantis is correct. By US policy Ukraine is by definition not a vital interest. To help in this war, American needs to apply the Dutch Disease concept, but not by relying on Iran to flood the market with oil, but we need to pump more of our own oil. Current Sanctions are hardly working.

Gee, Russia has attacked almost as many Countries as the USA Government has attacked. So Putin is not a nice guy. I would say neither is Biden but hey, he is our bad guy. Ukraine is almost as corrupt as our Government. Face it, most Governments are corrupt and treat their people like crap. I feel bad about the Russian citizens, the Ukranian citizens but mainly the American citizens, since I am American. America has more problems than Russia, Ukraine combined. We can't fix Russia or Ukraine until we fix America. Time to concentrate on America. There will always be a Putin or Zelenski to fight once we stop fighting amongst our own people.

If Ukraine was a vital interest, we would have inducted them into NATO long ago and we would have done it when Putin was weaker than he is now. That says to me that we consider Ukraine to be a region and not a country. The fact that Europe continues to hate us even though we are carrying this water for their sake speaks volumes. They want our help and financial support with no strings attached. The world expects us to finance everything and rarely if ever do we hear a "thank you."
Remember Vietnam, Iraq and Afghanistan? We burned up billions of dollars and still lost all of the territory and failed the people. We unnecessarily engaged in boots on the ground war and spent precious American lives. Ukraine will make Number Four, you know it's coming.
A real POTUS would have sent Putin a message while his troops were still staging above Kiev and told him to cross the line and lose all of them. Too late now, thousands of Ukrainian women and children have been butchered. Unfortunately we are saddled with the Doofus from Delaware.

So, anyone, what’s the vital US national interest at stake? There is none. The problem is that the world had been bombarded with pro-Uke propaganda for more than a year now, and Russia is everyone’s favorite enemy, especially Putin. Get your blue and yellow pom-poms shaking!!

There is nothing incompatible for both positions, risking nuclear war over Ukraine is not in our U.S. interests, and Putin being a war criminal for his Army's targeting of civilians, but haters gonna hate, as we've seen for years with the democrats relative to Trump. What is incompatible is the notion that to like Donald Trump one must hate Ron DeSantis. I know some have advocated for adopting and perfecting democrat tactics in order to be successful in this modern era of representative government and irregular voting processes, but being more democrat-like wouldn't end well for normal conservative Americans.

How could his statement be mischaracterized? This was a written answer that he had time to formulate and not have to give an answer off the cuff. NO, Jeb Bush called and DeSantis saw the light through the deep state and has now tried to change his answer. Disappointing
