The British military’s supply of ammunition would run dry in just one day in a direct engagement with Russia as a result of years of spending cuts to the nation’s defence, a former top general has warned.
General Sir Richard Barrons, who formerly served as the Joint Forces chief, claimed that spending cuts have depleted the British military to such an extent that, in a hot war with Russia, the UK would run out of ammunition and artillery shells within just one day.
According to research conducted by The Sun newspaper, the United Kingdom’s ammunition plants would need at least one year to produce the amount of shells currently used by the Ukrainians

What happened to all the ammo multiple government agencies bought during the Obama administration?

The U.S. military probably has an arsenal of feather boas to pacify the enemy.

I'm curious. When WE run out of ammo and surrender should we hoist a white flag or a politically correct rainbow one?

It looks like the Brits don't want to play this game. One reason might be that they know that the Russians are winning decisively.

That all depends. How is the UK debt? Or are we supposed to accept that deficit spending is a good thing?

The nazis almost did them in from the sky in 1940. Now they are convinced the being part of the European Union and relying on nazis and globalists to control their nation and their heritage and their destiny. Good plan.
And lets not start on the Irish, who were relelgated to the lowest rung of the British class system, starved,, imprisoned and run off their island and prohibited from worshipping God. They are now happy to have the people who despised them running their nation as part of the globalist realm.
But ammo and guns are now bad.

Most western countries today have largely pulled their own "teeth" by being unwilling to keep enough FUNCTIONAL aircraft, tanks, artillery pieces, air defense missile systems and critically, the ammunition supplies for them in stock. Wars expend vast amounts of missiles, bombs, artillery shells, and small arms ammunition. Trainload after trainload.
And it is expensive, too. And guess what? Build out 1,000 antiaircraft missiles, put them in storage....and after about 10 years, the solid fuel rocket motors begin to degrade and become unsafe. So you have to remove all the missiles, pull the rocket motors, replace with new production rocket motors, and recertify the whole missile and then put back in storage.
It takes a long term commitment to building and MAINTAINING all your aircraft, their missiles, tanks, artillery, and LOTS of shells for them - which is also subjected to life limits, although much longer than rocket motors. Artillery shells are probably good for 20-30 years, but not for ever.
Even small arms ammunition, for machine guns and rifles needs to be sold off and replaced every 15-20 years.
Bottom line: If you aren't pretty serious about defense, your military capability steadily degrades with time without a lot of repair and replacement.
My understanding was that only about 10-50% of German aircraft, tanks, etc were actually capable of going to war four or five years ago. Huge numbers were downed for lack of spare parts, and many aircraft and tanks had been cannibalized for parts to keep others running and flying. Germany could say "we have 400 fighter aircraft....but a closer look found that in 2018 only FOUR German Eurofighter aircraft could take to the air with functional missiles on their racks. Think about that....1% readiness.
There were serious problems with the aircraft and missiles being down with technical problems to the point that German sources reported only four of the Luftwaffe's aircraft could actually join into a fight. That was five years ago, and perhaps Trump prodding them helped, and I'd bet that this Russian invasion has stirred the pot. Perhaps they are actually going to make their Luftwaffe back into a functional air force. Five years ago, it certainly was NOT. This is endemic across Europe. Money going to welfare programs rather than to maintain their military capabilities.
The Germans were going to give some older model highly capable antiaircraft guns mounted on tracked vehicles to Ukraine.....only they searched their warehouses, and found NO AMMUNITION. They had to quickly tool up to make ammo.....pretty unreal when you find out what has been going on over there. So, they had antiaircraft guns "in reserve" but zero ammo. Sad and amazing.
The Russian invasion is a real wake up call to everyone with a brain.

Double ditto what #12 said. In WW2 the Brits were expecting a German land invasion, and begged the US for weapons. American civilian gun owners ponied up massive amounts of personal guns and ammo so they could repel the invasion that never came. After the war, the Brit government confiscated the donated guns and destroyed them. Apparently they dont trust their own citizens any more than they trusted the Germans.
This time they can rot. Anyone who has such callous disregard for their own people, and good guns, is unworthy of saving.
