Former President Trump broke his silence on the ongoing election for speaker of the House Wednesday morning, as Republican leader Rep. Kevin McCarthy, R-Calif., has so far failed to secure enough votes to become speaker. "Some really good conversations took place last night, and it’s now time for all of our GREAT Republican House Members to VOTE FOR KEVIN," Trump posted on Truth Social. "CLOSE THE DEAL, TAKE THE VICTORY, & WATCH CRAZY NANCY PELOSI FLY BACK HOME TO A VERY BROKEN CALIFORNIA,THE ONLY SPEAKER IN U.S. HISTORY TO HAVE LOST THE ‘HOUSE’ TWICE! REPUBLICANS, DO NOT TURN A GREAT TRIUMPH INTO A GIANT & EMBARRASSING DEFEAT.

At least they didn't accuse Trump of a "rant" this time. Too late though to save the republicans from embarrassment. They should have had this speaker controversy resolved before Monday and had one vote as a formality. Now they are looking more like jackasses than the democrat donkeys do.

Another Trump mistake, like his endorsement of McConnell and McDaniel prior. Personnel and "vaccine" pushing are Trump vulnerabilities that can lose him the primary.

I really don't understand how taking a while to get a non-Deep State Speaker would be a "giant and embarrassing defeat" in any way. This Congress is NOT going to accomplish anything other than to obstruct the Demorats agenda. NOTHING that Republicans want will be passed. Not one single thing. This House's job is to ensure that nothing gets through that the Dems want, and in turn, the Senate and Traitor Joe will ensure that nothing gets through that the Republicans want. Stalemate is the best we can hope for. BUT - if we get a rotten RINO Speaker, he may be able to engineer some successes for the DEMS, and the very best possible, most conservative, innovative, hard working, brilliant Speaker will NOT be able to get even one single bill into law that the Dems don't want.

I admit I'm foggy on what happens if McCarthy doesn't make it, or how that would assist the dems & Hakeem Jeffries, their House Minority Leader. All I can think to compare McCarthy to is Paul Ryan. How much damage did Ryan do to the country? Quite a lot.

I think we should allow McCarthy to be speaker . It is not an easy job trying to please all these power hungry narcissists who seem to have forgotten why they are there and are more interested in increasing their own power and wealth . The smart ones that could do the job don’t want the job. I want Jim Jorden to be where he wants to be. He knows his own strengths and he knows he would not be a good fit for speaker of the house. After all McCarthy did promise if they didn’t like the job he does they could fire him.

The hypocrisy relative to Trump on this site is stunning. First, who are these "American Patriots" that Trump should now trust, and what defines them as Patriots vs another set of politicians who scream, "RINO" in an attempt to gain political advantage? He's was proclaimed the greatest president ever! until his former paramours and ex-knee-jerk rabid defenders decided that he should shut up and buzz off. If those who apparently hate McCarthy knew for years what they think they know, why did you berate others on this site for daring to offer any criticism of Trump? Trump hasn't drastically changed his political views in the last few months Notice the lack of accusations of current anti-Trump sentiment making one a "Never Trumper" on this thread. Who is now the "chosen one," heir to the MAGA/Patriot throne, especially after former Trump lovers have branded DeSantis a RINO after the '22 elections?

After 11 votes in three days that went nowhere, signs emerged Thursday night that Kevin McCarthy may finally have a viable path to becoming the next House speaker. It won’t be easy, automatic or immediate, according to House lawmakers who themselves were processing the information in real time as details of the deal emerged. But a written framework for rules in the 118th Congress was released on Thursday that McCarthy's allies hope will allow many of the GOP lawmakers who have been voting against McCarthy all week to eventually support him.

The battle for the next Speaker of the House has been going on for weeks. By the time you are reading this, that battle may very well be over. Or it may not, as history has shown that contentious Speaker elections do not always end quickly. Regardless, we would do well to look past the daily headlines in this fight and dig into the deeper meaning of the issue. As Mark Meadows said in a recent interview when asked why he made the unpopular decision to take on Speaker John Boehner, a decision that led to Boehner resigning as Speaker of the House in 2015

Two contrasting realities of the present-day Republican Party were on display on Tuesday. In the House of Representatives, 20 members of the GOP's so-called chaos caucus blocked the efforts of 202 fellow Republicans to elect Rep. Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) as speaker. The move led to a once-in-a-century standoff that paralyzed the House. Members cannot be sworn in, committees cannot be formed, and lawmakers cannot do any work until the deadlock is broken, whenever that might be. Meanwhile, in Tallahassee, newly reelected Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL) took the oath of office for a second term with a ringing statement of accomplishment and ambition that could well be the foundation of

Ohio Rep. Jim Jordan got it exactly right in his speech re-nominating Kevin McCarthy for Speaker of the House ahead of the second ballot Tuesday afternoon: The voters gave the Republican majority a clear mandate, and honoring that should be the top priority of every GOP member. “To my friends here on this side of the aisle, I would just say this. The differences we may have . . . pale in comparison to the differences between us and the left, which now unfortunately controls the other party,” the Ohioan thundered. “So we had better come together and fight for these key things.”

On election night, I was half-watching Florida Governor Ron DeSantis’s victory remarks when something quite extraordinary and encouraging caught my attention. DeSantis evoked Churchill’s “fighting on the beaches” speech, in which Churchill stirred the resolve and patriotism of the British people in anticipation of the invasion of their homeland by the Nazis. DeSantis, of course, was not warning against Nazism: he was warning against wokeism, which he was implicitly equating with Nazism. I had never heard a national political figure treat wokeism with such (deserved) gravity.

Every app on your iPhone comes with a certain set of permissions depending on what the app is used for. For example, Instagram will ask permission to access your camera and photos app so you can take and post pictures, while WhatsApp will ask for access to your microphone to send voice notes. Some apps take it further asking for your "precise" location. It's imperative to know what exactly they're asking you for. What's the difference between precise and approximate location? Apps within Apple devices have two different location options that they might ask permission for. One is your approximate location, which just gives an app a general area where you're located

Even to a jaded journalist, the New Year inspires hope that anything is possible. In that spirit, here are my three wishes for 2023. No. 1 is Joe Biden announcing he won’t seek re-election. It would be the first thing he’s done to fulfill his pledge to unite the nation, with a decision to retire worthy of bipartisan celebration. Biden is a bumbler, and always was, even before cognitive decline turned his appearances into spectacles. The big achievement of his tenure has been to prove the wisdom of two warnings about him.

What do all our notable fabricators—George Santos, Joe Biden, Elizabeth Warren, Barack Obama—have in common? Well, quite like the Ward ChurchilIs or Rachel Dolezals of the world, one way or another, they lied about their identities. Or they sought fraudulent ways of suggesting their ancestries were marginalized. Or they had claims on being victims on the theory their constructed personas brought career advantages. George Santos claimed, apparently in search of a victimized status, that he was an “American Jew” and a “Latino Jew,” and a descendent of Holocaust survivors. Joe Biden lied that he went to “shul” as well

How much has America changed? Well, consider moves being made at West Point. Over the summer, Washington’s Naming Commission — comprised of four civilians and as many retired military vets — came to final conclusions regarding seven different Department of Defense “assets.” In its report, the group recommended a renaming of sites honoring Confederate General Robert E. Lee, along with Generals P.G.T. Beauregard and William Hardee. And over the holidays, the United States Military Academy at West Point began the process of purging Lee from its hallowed halls. As relayed by the Daily News, Superintendent Lieutenant General Steve Gilland released a December 26th statement:

House GOP Leader Kevin McCarthy lost a ninth round vote for Speaker, which would mean he's lost three races each of the last three days. No House Speaker vote has gone on this long in modern US political history, and it's set Republicans' new majority in the chamber off to a rocky start.  The last time a House Speaker vote reached 10 rounds was in 1859.  In 1856, it took former House Speaker Nathaniel Prentice Banks two months and 133 rounds of voting for the House of Representatives to settle on a leader - the longest stretch on record.

Joe Biden’s press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre always manages to find new ways to embarrass herself. From the very beginning, she’s proven herself to be a lackluster spokesperson. Biden received praise from the media for promoting her to replace Jen Psaki, but that was because Jean-Pierre was a black lesbian rather than for her communication abilities. As such, her first months as White House Press Secretary haven’t gone very well. She has managed to be even less prepared than Jen Psaki, awkwardly dodging questions and constantly having to refer to her notes. Things were getting so bad that they even brought Pentagon spokesman John Kirby over to babysit her.
