Over the summer, Washington’s Naming Commission — comprised of four civilians and as many retired military vets — came to final conclusions regarding seven different Department of Defense “assets.” In its report, the group recommended a renaming of sites honoring Confederate General Robert E. Lee, along with Generals P.G.T. Beauregard and William Hardee. And over the holidays, the United States Military Academy at West Point began the process of purging Lee from its hallowed halls. President Biden let it be known first thing yesterday morning that he would visit El Paso this coming Sunday. The visit is notable for two reasons. First, it’s a rare weekend when Biden will not be on vacation. He has spent 40 percent of his term in office so far on vacation. At age 80, the guy needs his r & r.
Second, for “El Paso” read “the border.” For the first time in his political life Biden will visit the border. This can mean only one thing. Biden is preparing to announce his candidacy for a second term in office.
This raises the question whether he will be fit
Indicted FTX founder Sam Bankman-Fried wants to use his contested $460 million Robinhood stake to fund his legal defense — despite allegations that he acquired it using money he borrowed from his doomed crypto hedge fund Alameda Research.
Bankman-Fried’s attorneys petitioned a Delaware court on Thursday to return 56.3 million shares of the retail trading platform’s stock that are technically owned by an entity called Emergent Fidelity Technology Ltd.

Charlie Hebdo, the satirical French magazine, is once again in trouble with the Iranians.
Three times since 2011, the magazine has been targeted by terrorist attacks for its wildly disrespectful portrayal of Mohammed and Islam. In 2015, two Islamist gunmen entered the magazine’s offices and opened fire, killing 12 and wounding 11 more. Embattled Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg, who has come under fire recently for basically being terrible at his job, has also been criticized for his regular use of private government jets, a practice he tried to defend during an appearance on Fox News.

For a company that made nearly $40 billion in 2021 alone, even a fine as large as that — which Meta will certainly contest — won’t force the company to change its ways.

People in the Mexican town of Ciudad Juárez, near the US border, are mourning the deaths of guards killed in Sunday's prison break.
Nineteen people - both guards and prisoners - died when gunmen attacked the prison. Thirty inmates escaped.
Seven more people were killed in a shoot-out on Monday while investigators were hunting the escapees.
Following the incident, Mexican authorities fired the prison director, Alejandro Alvarado Téllez.
The attack is one of the deadliest seen in recent times.

Biden received praise from the media for promoting her to replace Jen Psaki, but that was because Jean-Pierre was a black lesbian rather than for her communication abilities. As such, her first months as White House Press Secretary haven’t gone very well.
