First Gen Z Congressman-Elect Denied D.C.

The first member of Generation Z to become a congressman-elect has reportedly been denied a Washington, DC, apartment due to “really bad” credit. Democrat Maxwell Alejandro Frost will soon replace Rep. Val Demings (D) for her seat in Florida’s 10th U.S. Congressional District next month, but he will have some difficulty finding a place to hang his hat near Capitol Hill after a potential landlord denied him an apartment because of his credit score. “Just applied to an apartment in DC where I told the guy that my credit was really bad. He said I’d be fine. Got denied, lost the apartment, and the application fee. This ain’t meant for people

Many years ago, I met a guy who was a local political operative (probably the mid 80s). Anyway, somehow the conversation turned to political campaigns and he told me that the Hubert Humphrey campaign still had a significant hotel bill still outstanding from the 1968 campaign (then nearly 20 years before). The rule I was told is that anytime you deal with a politician/political campaign, it's always cash up front.

Three thoughts: 1) It is not a problem for most candidates because most people have actually, you know, accomplished something in their lives before having a chance to become an elected member of Congress. 2) Kevin McCarthy used to sleep on a cot in his office and shower at the House gym. 3) Given how many of them go from nothing to millionaires while in office, he shouldn't have any trouble getting a loan to tide him over.

Actually people, this is a legitimate gripe. This was an average Joe running for Congress. At 25, I would have been in debt if I had run for Congress. At 25, someone who is motivated SHOULD be able to run, and win (if their policies resonate with their constituency), a seat in Congress. A 25 year old conservative would have the same problem.

Twitter owner Elon Musk is going scorched-earth on the company’s former head of Trust & Safety, Yoel Roth. On Saturday, Musk responded to the resurfacing of this 2010 tweet from Roth linking to a Salon article asking if high school students can “meaningfully” consent to sex with their teachers. That the question even needs to be asked tells you a lot about the mindset of the man who, until recently, headed up Twitter’s Ministry of Truth — the same company that banned the use of the word “groomer” in July. Musk replied with a bombshell quote from Roth’s Ph.D. thesis — which was focused on the gay hook-up platform Grindr.

The third installment of the “Twitter files” gave us some of what we were looking for in terms of government involvement in censoring free speech, though many questions remain. Tonight, close on the heels of the last data dump, Michael Shellenberger unleashed the fourth chapter in the story. This edition also focused on the decision-making process that led to the President of the United States being banned. At least in the early revelations, Schellenberger winds up offering more cover for Jack Dorsey and focusing the blame on the covert actions of Yoel Roth. There are also indications that Twitter was paying far more attention to the “big names”

After blowing smoke about the condition of Biden’s economy, many news outlets are suffering losses. On Thursday, close to 1,100 New York Times workers staged a strike, of sorts. The effort appears rather neutered considering it was only a 24-hour walkout, and the desperation was evident as they attempted to get readers to also join in by not consuming any Times content for the day. The Eighth Circuit U.S. Court of Appeals affirmed a lower court’s decision to block enforcement of the rule on the grounds that “intrusion upon the Catholic Plaintiffs’ exercise of religion is sufficient to show irreparable harm,” the filing reads. Catholic nuns, clinics, a university, and hospitals were among the plaintiffs in the case, represented by the Becket Fund. The plaintiffs all provide medical care for transgender patients but refuse to provide gender-transition surgeries
