The congressman who would lead the most powerful investigative committee in the House if Republicans win the midterms is sending an unmistakable advance warning to the permanent federal bureaucracy: It's time to "get rid of some of these useless bureaucrats who are just a drain on the American taxpayer." Rep. James Comer of Kentucky, the ranking Republicans on the House Oversight Committee, told Just the News on Thursday evening

House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy and House Republicans are gearing up to investigate the Biden administration over a variety of issues should the GOP retake the House in the midterms this November, according to several discussions with ranking members of Congress and McCarthy. Topping the list of GOP targets are Biden’s DOJ, the Department of Education and the border crisis. Republicans also intend to prioritize inflation, COVID origins and Big Tech.

No, I haven’t changed my mind about early voting. It’s still not a relevant story, as the Election Day vote usually chips away at Democratic Party advantages. No one has a crystal ball that’s infallible to see how women, nonwhites, suburban, rural, independents, etc., will cast their ballots. Did anyone think Democrats would screw things up so severely that suburban white women have moved away from them by a 26-point margin? Did anyone think that 21 percent of Black Americans would support Republicans this year?

“We are exhausted” with crime and “need results,” National Supermarket Association’s Nelson Eusebio fumes to The Post, explaining why 70 mostly Latino city grocers are donating $1,000 apiece to Rep. Lee Zeldin’s campaign for governor. Welcome to the club, guys. The group — whose stores include Foodtown, Key Food, C-Town and other supermarkets — have generally voted for Democrats, Eusebio explained.

The Capitol Police has live cameras outside Democratic House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s home — but officers were reportedly not watching the feeds when her husband was brutally assaulted. The agency monitors 1,800 cameras at the Capitol and away from its jurisdiction, including at the Pelosi residence in San Francisco, the Washington Post reported. An officer who was cycling through the many live feeds Friday at one point noticed police lights flashing outside the home and rewound the video, according to the paper.

People are fickle, we all know that, and in no area is fickleness more evident than in politics. American voters change their minds constantly, never seeming to be able to decide if they want Democrats or Republicans to run the country for any length of time. Look at the following list of which party won the Presidency since 1948 (I’ll deal with FDR in a later post):

The man accused of attacking Paul Pelosi with a hammer had been living in a school bus weeks before the attack, neighbors said.
Those who know David DePape, 42, told The Post they’ve seen him living in a yellow school bus parked in front of the Berkeley home of his ex, San Francisco pro-nudist activist Gypsy Taub, with whom he shares three children. “He usually kept to himself,” neighbor Ryan La Coste told The Post.

California truck drivers and environmental groups presented their concerns about a proposal under consideration by state air regulators to phase out the sale of medium and heavy-duty gas-powered vehicles within the next 20 years. The California Air Resources Board held its first public hearing this week to receive feedback from the public on the proposal, which the board will likely consider in Spring 2023.

The Republican Party has won an election integrity lawsuit against Michigan Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson over restrictions she imposed on poll challengers. Benson, per the Republican National Committee, had imposed restrictions on poll challengers, including a new credential form, an "artificial deadline" for appointing them, and limiting the poll workers with whom the challengers may communicate.

The liberal enclave of Martha’s Vineyard has been thrown into chaos by the arrival of two planeloads of migrants sent there by Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, according to local reports. Local officials on the Massachusetts island were told about the new arrivals during a Wednesday night meeting of the West Tisbury Select Board — with Town Administrator Jennifer Rand saying she’d been receiving “furious texts” from residents, the MV Times reported. “I’m a little unclear about the situation, as is everybody, because everybody is scrambling a bit,” Rand said.

In the New York area - - you can find just about any type of ethnic grocery store and supermarket. This story is about the many Hisanic grocers - - but there are also Korean, Chinese, Colombian, Filipino, Vietnamese, and Lebanese stores - - in addition to the more traditional Italian, Jewish, German, Polish, and Greek markets. And I've shopped at all of them. But there is one ethnic group which doesn't seem to have grocery stores - - or any type of retail establishment - - none that I have ever shopped in - - even though they are portrayed on television commercials as being ubiquitous entrepreneurs. That's always seemed a bit strange to me.
