Biden says coal plants 'all across America'
will be shut down, replaced with wind
and solar

President Biden said Friday that coal plants are too expensive to operate, and "we're going to be shutting these plants down all across America" in order to shift to wind power in a comment that drew criticism from the Republican National Committee. (Snip) "So it's going to become a wind generation. And all they're doing is it’s going to save them a hell of a lot of money and using the same transmission line that they transmitted the coal-fired electric on, we're going to be shutting these plants down all across America and having wind and solar power, also providing

Comments:

Thanks Joe-Joe. Pennsylvania, Ohio, Illinois, and West Va. are huge coal states. This will help bury the Dems next week - if Republicans get the word out.

If they were too expensive to operate, then market forces would already have brought about the switch to wind and solar. And how much of their expense in operating comes from government putting its thumb on the scale and artificially making them expensive to operate?

We see how well wind is working in the freezing weather. As for solar, it is only reasonable in climates that have constant sunshine. Biden has no clue about anything and his associates never took a basic course in Physics much less Thermodynamics. God Help America becasue the Democrats are out to destroy us.

Only "politicians" are technologically illiterate enough to say stupid things like this. And FJB is one of the stupidest. It is not technically feasible to provide the energy the US needs from wind and solar. But I guess we'll have to spend a few trillion dollars - and a lot of frozen dead people - proving that.

Biden has mentally retreated into a world of fantasy. This is truly frightening. Every American should be concerned. It can only be hoped that his decline is so rapid and precipitous that there can be no doubt that he must be removed from office under the 25th Amendment, regardless of who succeeds him.

Amazing that the left is so ignorant that they refuse to think about the lubricants that the wind mills need to operate. Gallons upon gallons, and it comes from something called oil. I guess he also hasn't seen the charging stations which are run by diesel generators as well? How about the states that don't get much sun during the winter months? That kind of lets out solar, which has a dodgy history anyway.

A nuclear plant generating 1000 Mgwatts occupies one square mile. Solar plant for same power takes around 75 sq miles and wind power occupies a whopping 420 sq miles. Where does he thinks the space is coming from. Besides turbine blades and motors last barely 15+ years. How are you going to replace them at current inflation rates? This is nuts!!

If you extracted enough energy from the winds blowing over the continental United States to replace what is generated by fossil fuel plants, you would noticeably weaken the jet stream and change its path. And THAT folks, would give you some real climate change.

You simply cannot replace baseload power with intermittent, unreliable wind and solar power generation. Fossil fuel or nuclear power plants, running in turndown and reserve, will always be necessary to prevent blackouts when there is no wind/solar energy. Ignorant FJB

Easy to say, perhaps, but if I owned a coal plant, they'd have to come and make me shut it down. I'd put up an excellent fight. If every industry challenged the government interference, what could government do? It always seems so easy for them to take over. I know it's more complicated, but we always let them get away with stuff they have no rights to. How long? Or are we just done?

Monday's $1.9 billion jackpot is the world's largest lottery prize ever

Sen. Michael Bennet, D-Colo., is getting blasted by his opponent as "radical" after his wife was recorded talking to two undercover journalists about how Democrats shouldn't talk about what's really in the Inflation Reduction Act and how they could defund the police "quietly." Susan Daggett, a law professor at the University of Denver, is seen on video released Monday by Accuracy in Media, arguing that "the most successful efforts in Washington, D.C., are the ones that you never see on the front page of the paper." At one point in the video, Daggett agrees and laughs with the two journalists

Pennsylvania Democratic Lt. Gov. John Fetterman was winning the outstanding in-person and absentee votes in Philadelphia and in a suburban county. That meant essentially that most of Dr. Mehmet Oz’s votes had been counted and allowed the Associated Press to call the race early Wednesday for Fetterman. At times early in the cycle, it seemed Fetterman would run away with the election after handily defeating his primary opponents, but Oz tightened the race, attacking Fetterman as soft on crime and relentlessly questioning whether his Democratic counterpart was fit to serve after he suffered a stroke in May.

As vote counts continue to be posted, it is clear that Republican hopes and dreams of a huge wave election have been dashed. (snip) But in one state, Florida, Republicans have triumphed in tsunami-like proportions. With 98% of the vote counted, Marco Rubio has a 16.4% landslide lead over Senate challenger Val Demings, and Governor Ron DeSantis has a 19.4% lead, a gigantic increase over his fraction of one percent squeaker victory 4 years ago. It’s going to take some time to figure out why the rest of the country isn’t behaving like the Sunshine State, but 3 factors suggest themselves.

Hey, Lyin’ Ted and Sleepy Joe: Meet Toxic Trump. You know, if the former president had any self-knowledge or even the slightest ability to be self-deprecating, he might consider giving himself this alliterative nickname. After three straight national tallies in which either he or his party or both were hammered by the national electorate, it’s time for even his stans to accept the truth: Toxic Trump is the political equivalent of a can of Raid. What Tuesday night’s results suggest is that Trump is perhaps the most profound vote repellant in modern American history. The surest way to lose in these midterms was to be a politician

Reacting on the Fox News Channel to the GOP’s underperformance in the 2022 midterms on Tuesday, economist Stephen Moore described what happened as perhaps the strangest election he’s ever seen in his long career. Trace Gallagher introduced the segment by pointing out that polling suggested that the Democrats would be on the receiving end of a red-wave rout over the cost-of-living crisis. “What’s your assessment?” he asked Moore, the FreedomWorks financial expert and former Trump advisor. "The Red Wave.” If you’ve been watching Fox News and frequenting conservative websites the last few weeks (and this commentator admits he does more than his share of both), you were hearing how Republicans were going to have another one of those massive 2010-style seat pickups in the House. Win 56 seats in the Senate. Celebrate upsets in Michigan and even New York governors’ mansions. Yeah, right. Fox News commentators (yeah, doing it again) in the wee hours of Wednesday morning were struggling to justify salvaging at least a “Red Ripple.” Turned out to be a Red Puddle. Of blood.

Griner was convicted of importing illegal drugs into Russia in August several months after she was arrested in a Moscow airport for having cannabis oil in a vaping cartridge in her luggage. While vaping cartridges such as the ones in her luggage would be ignored by many western countries,

I have been pretty clear about my take on election fraud: it happens. How could it not? There is fraud in every aspect of human life, and we generally take precautions to minimize it. In elections? Not so much. It also rarely makes much of a difference, because committing massive fraud is difficult, requires the cooperation of significant numbers of people to pull off, and when it matters a lot the lawyers get involved. I think it happens a lot more than Democrats are willing to admit, but I also think it affects the outcomes of elections a lot fewer times than many Republicans suppose. It is a marginal

Co-host Joe Scarborough asked, “But James, you know, this is just the ebb and flow of politics. Bill Clinton wins big in ’92. Idiots like me get elected in ’94. Obama wins massively in ’08. The Tea Party wins in ’10. Could you explain to people who don’t know politics as well as you how historic last night was?” Carville said, “I’m going try.
