Twitter sued over Elon Musk’s layoff
plan as thousands of workers locked out

A class-action lawsuit has been filed against Twitter over Elon Musk’s plan to sack thousands of staffers — as employees were abruptly locked out of their company Slack and email accounts, and barred from going into the office ahead of the mass layoffs Friday. The lawsuit was filed Thursday in San Francisco federal court after the company notified employees it would eliminate some 3,700 jobs, half its workforce, Bloomberg News reported. It alleges that employees weren’t given enough notice of the mass layoffs in violation of federal and California law.

Just goes to show how these people think...instead of going, "huh, looks like this guy is about to clean house and I should get a new job," they think. "How dare this guy fire me from the company he just bought, how dare he decide who can work for him, I'll sue!"

FTA: “A class-action lawsuit has been filed against Twitter over Elon Musk’s plan to sack thousands of staffers.” 1) No. Stop with the passive voice in the lead. It should read: “Ambulance-chaser lawyer, Shannon Liss-Riordan, who previously (and unsuccessfully) sued Tesla, now filed a similar lawsuit over the layoffs.” Fixed it. 2) Twitter is nominally a private company. Musk as CEO and primary stakeholder in the company, can hire or fire who he wants, including that one babe who bragged about the fois gras in the cafeteria, the wine on tap, yoga and ‘meditation’ rooms when she she felt like showing up for work.

If you don't think those fired Twits aren't going to get at least a couple months severance with benefits, you're smoking stuff that don't come in packs of 20. Most of us would find ourselves grateful to get "fired" as graciously as these twits. But I expect there will be vandalism and sabotage by the fired twits. And since Elon Musk is a whole lot smarter (and richer) than I, I expect he has made contingencies to deal with the same.

Years ago, a tech company, I will not name, surprised my older brother in his office with a pink slip. The security waited until he gathered up his personal items and they escorted him to his car and watched him drive out. It was shameful since he put 25 years in that place. But they gave him six months pay so he could find another job and retire. It was tough but he survived. By contrast, these Twitter weenies won’t make it.

Twitter has lost 975 million in the last year, and has accumulated Retained Earnings Deficit of $1 Billion. The Company is entirely financed by capital contributions, not earnings. The first listed exception to the WARN Act is a faltering company, which Twitter clearly is. The leftists judges don't care about the law, and will rule against Musk, who will have to appeal and get that overturned, but will win in the end.

They are suing based on the law that requires 60 days notice before a layoff. I’m not familiar with the details of the law but there should be an exception for IT positions. You can’t allow them 60 days to sabotage systems. I expect Elon’s lawyers have this covered.

If you read the email Twitter sent to each employee, you will probably find that this WAS notice for some of them. Each employee is notified of hia status as an iindividual … We have no idea what each employee was notified in those emails. The class action suit seems premature. And there are exceptions to both the WARN and CA’s mini-WARN laws. Interesting, but Musk will handle.

President Joe Biden has had a rough week, getting fact-checked by Twitter, delivering angry speeches while avoiding battleground states, and being forced to “moonwalk” away from his ludicrous claim that he would close coal plants all over the country. During a press conference on Friday, Washington Air National Guard Brig. Gen. Gent Welsh said, “One of the things making a lot of this possible are states that’ve just decided to do it.”
