Steve Schmidt, a former senior strategist on then-Senator John McCain’s 2008 presidential campaign, published a scathing expose and mea culpa late Sunday night and apologized publicly to the New York Times for denying reporting he now claims was accurate regarding McCain. “I would like to apologize to the journalists whose bylines appear on the story,” Schmidt wrote on his newly launched Substack. “Their credibility, integrity, and professionalism were unfairly attacked by the McCain campaign of which I was a part of. I got it wrong. These journalists, like many others, were also victims of this lie.” The story in question

I read it but i have little interest in reading it carefully enough to understand what the fruit he was saying- specifically.
When I came to the part about him spending hours on the phone EVERY NIGHT with the raging sobbing lobbyist, I couldn’t help think of the Depp trial.
There is something of smelly cheese with this guy. I am NOT a fan of the mccain family- they are despicable.
I do wonder who would have been the candidate if the despicable mccain had not been. And if he would have still been in a position to play his role with the Steele Dossier.
Now, i extract myself from this spoiled fondue.

Who was the lobbyist? Who did she work for? Was she able to convince McCain to change positions on issues she was for?
(McCain was a cad, had a history of affairs with married woimen, married at least one of them.)

All through the story "a lobbyist".....I didn't see her name anywhere.
I soured on McCain many years before he was ever even imagined as a presidential candidate.
I am convinced to this day that the whole Keating affair was just as much on McCain as any of the others.
His grandfather was a great USN admiral, did a lot of good for the country in the south Pacific in WW2. I know less about the father, but he at least covered up for his spoiled rotten brat of a USN officer son. Two sides of the story as to his time as a POW, some say a hero, some say the opposite. I don't have an opinion on that one. In the Forrestal fire, I don't THINK he was actually responsible for the fire, but that isn't entirely clear, but he left the burning flight deck, did nothing to assist fighting the fires and as soon as it was over, went AWOL and just disappeared for a week or two. THAT always seemed like the actions of a guilty person. His admiral father covered up for him.
Absolutely no fan of the man. One more crooked move by a person whose whole life was a series of crooked moves.

Who cares about this lame distraction?
Fix inflation, the border, our humiliating foreign policy, find the abandoned Americans and our Allie's in Afghanistan, stop stealing elections, stop taking foreign money, get your corrupt family out of the government's business and vice versa, stop telling lies everyone knows are proven lies, stop being senile (oh sorry), stop pushing trans-whatever garbage.
No one cares about who a dead guy slept with 14 years ago.

Am I to assume a campaign guy found a conscience?
How reliable can he end up being for anyone in politics if he's willing to spill, even if he didn't mention the name of the lobbyist who McCain was having an affair with for many years. I presume it's well-known in DC circles and will come out soon.

McCain NOT "my friend" was a sorry excuse from the beginning, Keating 5, but who cares? The takeaway is do not nominate or elect Senators.

This wimpy Article is missing the following two introductory sentences:
"John McCain has always denied he ever had an inappropriate or romantic relationship with a lobbyist, namely Vicki Iseman. These denials were blatant lies by John and by his campaign."
"On February 21, 2008, in the midst of John McCain's campaign in the 2008 Republican Party presidential primaries, both The New York Times and the Washington Post published articles detailing rumors of an improper relationship between John McCain and lobbyist Vicki Iseman."

McCain was a petty, nasty little man and Trump was right about him. Heroes do not let themselves get shot down and captured like McCain did. I am convinced as senator he helped Obama undermine our nation, and Obama probably took a great deal of glee about it too.

Regarding the Forrestal fire, McCain absolutely contributed to that disaster by showing off something called a ''wet start'' while he was in his fighter jet. His arrogance killed and maimed a lot of good men that day, and to his shame he was taken off the Forrestal before the injured men were. His daddy knew there would be revenge from the rest of the sailors because of what he did.

He's trying desperately to get some attention. Too bad he's going to have an article at Substack where there are some really good writers, good because they think. Schmidt is a publicity seeker. He's talking about 2008. Oh, and he's whining about the meany Megan McCain pestering him into a miserable abyss.

A retired veteran criticized McCain's policy during a town hall meeting. McCain couldn't take the criticism too well and responded by saying, "You're a Jerk!" The incident was followed by lots of "boos" against McCain. Yes, McCain was a JERK and a COWARD.

I'd much prefer to know about McVain's "Ukraine Connection" and how much money has been poured into his namesake "Foreign Policy Institute" at the Arizona State campus... I recall both he and Lizard Graham standing up in an empty room in Kyiv and accepting some sort of made up "award" for their support, etc. Usually with such "awards" come cash prizes.

Another politician has an affair.. really.. who cares. Private and public life need to be separated. What did she think a politician was going to do if he or she got caught in an affair but deny or try to kill such a story? She can’t be that naive. What do expect when you are having an affair with a married man? She want sympathy.. she deserves none!

I don't care who he slept with. I care about McCain's treasonous activities. When donors were fleeing the Clinton Foundation, they moved over to his foundation. He was the essence of uniparty. I don't trust Lindsey because of his close ties to McCain.

Whoever John McCain was while he was in the Hanoi Hilton, he left that man behind there. John McCain the public grifter is who figures prominently throughout the rest of his life. Many people forget his role in the Savings and Loan scandals of the late 1980s. Two “heroes” had their entire bodies submerged in the filth of that $500 billion taxpayer bailout. Known as the Keating Five, they helped to single handedly destroy the S&L industry. Here is a link to and article from November 1989 about McCain’s role in that criminal conspiracy.

There was so much wrong with McCain that him having an affair is a big who cares.
That he wasn't loyal to his wife is nothing compared to his disloyalty to his middle American base and to the country in general.

McCain will not be treated well by real historians.
Search the internet for "Songbird/McCain" and "McCain/Keating Five" --- and don't use Google or even Duck Duck Go! I use Brave/Beta. Plenty to read.
Anyone hanging out with the loathsome late Sen. Alan Cranston --- and considered him a great friend --- was up to no good!

McCain became the candidate because the Washington swamp wanted it that way...they saw and opportunity to tap in on the mis/managed Washington funds...as was quickly proven with all the "inter/structure" funds being spent on obamas pet projects...the shovels are still ready and now nervous Nancy is controlling the money...see a pattern here....never liked mccain because his fellow POWs from nam...told the true story of mccain's betrayal....

John McCain was a backstabbing, corrupt, angry, evil bitter little man who hated his fellow veterans and active duty military. So much so he lied about and more importantly every piece of legislation that would've help us such as pay raises, better VA healthcare etc. he was against. He and his pal and fellow Navy vet turncoat John Kerry lied about POW's during the Senate Select committee hearing in the early 90s. His run in 2008 for POTUS was a disaster with him blaming others like Sarah Palin for his defeat. This is his legacy despite what his fat harpy daughter said during his funeral. Stinky Steve Schmidt can lick the boots of the same NYT who liked his former boss until he ran in 2008 all he wants because in the end nobody cares what he says.

As much as I despise McCain, (Co-founder of ISIS and warmonger in general and backstabber extraordinaire), I despise Professional liar and character assassin Steve Schmidt (Co-founder of the Lincoln Project , Deep Stater and stealth leftist) even more. I don't know his point in running his mouth on this particular thing, so many years after the fact, but you better believe that he has some nefarious purpose in doing so.
