The US Treasury said on Friday it is considering alternatives to facial-recognition technology to verify identities for online taxpayer accounts after some lawmakers raised privacy concerns.
The $86 million partnership between the Internal Revenue Service and private contractor ID.me, which was announced in November, would be one of the biggest expansions of facial recognition software made by the US government. The measure has been met with criticism from lawmakers, who argue that the software is intrusive and inaccurate.
Representative Ted Lieu, a California Democrat, called the move a 'very, very bad idea, ' adding that facial recognition is less accurate with dark skin tones.

I needed to see something on the IRS website the other day, and tried to register. When I got to the "submit video" part, I immediately shut it down. Now they keep sending me e-mails telling me to finish my registration.
What is a nice way to say "when Hell freezes over"?!?!?!?

Well, well, well, that racism thing just might help all of us now. Who do these government agencies think they are?

Meanwhile, some friend of a politician/govt official got a super huge contract.
Successful competition of the project doesn't matter.
It's all about a taxpayer-funded payoff to friends.

A few weeks ago I couldn't sleep (4 a.m.) and decided to work on my taxes. My first task was to double-check my tax deposits for the year so I logged into the IRS website. I was informed that I would have to create a new account and began the process. However, I couldn't get far along in the process because I don't have a webcam. I kept searching for a button to press to let them know I didn't have a webcam to no avail. I was stinking tired and mad as hell. I decided to go through my bank withdrawals to the IRS to confirm my payments and would follow-up on on my account later. A week or so ago I read an article about ID.me suggesting it was somewhat nefarious. Then I read that they are all in with the federal government regarding technology, and now I read this. You would have to be as ancient as me to remember the movie "Enemy of the State", but thinking about what is going on gave me the willies.

Have facial recognition on my cell phone and laptop. Does it work? Only about 70% of the time. It would probably also recongize Lassie as me. But if I put on my Dr. Fraudski mask the recognition drops to zero. You are supposed to supply all of you faces. So if you get a suntan you might be locked out. Not to go off topic but I watched two football games today. Didn't see anyone wearing a mask. Is the Pandemic over and no one told me?

Another brain flatulance from Joey. They couldn't stop all the fraud coming from all that free money, so he came up with this solution. My son-in-law filed for NY unemployment. They wanted a scan of himself, his driver's license and even his passport. Then to top it off, they wanted a video. He started yesterday but apparently it takes hours for the video to go through and be analyzed, so the application went into the 2nd day. Leave it to commie run NY. Never leave a penny that demonrats can waste somewhere else.

Filing taxes has been relatively simple for a few years due to the online technology but now they want to "enhance" it. Screw them, they're getting paper from now on.

No one will scan my retina because I wear sunglasses everywhere I go...since dark tints cannot be penetrated...there is the solution...and the IRS had better watch their over reach...or perhaps Americans will stop paying them and set up escrow accounts to comply with their obligations....a corruption gooberment cannot function without taxpayer's money....

I get that the tax returns are full of juicy information that ID thieves would love to get their grubby mitts on, but haven't these taxpayers every heard of the concept of making copies of what you turn into the IRS or any government agency?

What a way to get EVERYONE's picture stored somewhere in the letter agencies. Go to a political rally, object to a new proposal and whammo - a computer matches your face in the crowd to the face scan you sent the IRS. Genius. Diabolical, but genius.

Don't forget it only takes a few minutes to email your Congressman and Senators.
I simply wrote as a subject "ID.me has got to go!"
And the body of my text said," The IRS requiring taxpayers to register with ID.me is pure government overreach. Maybe we should require it for voting!"
Constituent contacts do mean something, especially in an election year. So go get busy!

The vendor is located practically within walking distance of their key customers. Guess the Stasi will need to partner with another source to buy video facial scans of ordinary Americans just going about their business. And rest assured that our politicians will have dumped their stock futures in this company nicely in advance of any real announcement. A previous article noted that the vendor was hiring up to 750 new employees to cover the workload in advance of this.
