A new poll from Quinnipiac Polling Group indicates that incumbent Governor Greg Abbott is well on his way to victory in the 2022 midterm elections. The survey of 1,224 registered voters found Abbott has opened a 53 percent to 37 percent lead, a whopping 15 point margin in the early going. Beto’s poor early numbers suggest the “purple Texas” narrative is under threat of collapse. The Biden border catastrophe, Beto’s insufferable Austin tech-bro liberalism, and collapsing support among Hispanic voters threaten humiliation for Texas Democrats. The Democratic weakness in Texas may come as a surprise to Republicans who watched with horror as Beto threatened to lead a successful progressive insurgency

The only reason that Robert Francis "Beto the faux Mexican" O'Rourke even came close to Ted Cruz a few years ago was how mad we conservatives were at Ted Cruz at that time. He was an unknown pretty-boy with a Mexican knickname, and he fooled a lot of people. But he is a very well-known commodity now. Outside of the Soviet Socialist Republikkk of Austin, he isn't really popular anywhere in the state. Abbott may have over-reacted to the Covid pandemic at first (like everyone did) and angered his base in the process. But Abbott has worked tirelessly this past 1.5 years to earn back his conservative credentials. I don't see the Demon-Rats on the national level throwing good money at his doomed campaign when there are races in other states they may win (given their mastery of election theft in those states). And, sorry #1, but conservatives in the Republican Party actually stand for things. The impotent Republi-Can't Party doesn't stand for anything anymore. It's up to the conservatives in the party to articulate what they stand for, and thank God that President Trump is pretty darn good and loud at doing that!!!

There may be a rematch coming in the 2024 race for the White House. But we're not talking (God help us) Biden-Trump II. Instead, 2016 Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton is an interesting prospect to consider when looking for a viable candidate, particularly if an 80-something President Biden decides not to seek a second term. And why would he? Just 22 percent of voters want him to seek a second term, according to a I&I-TIPP poll. It doesn't get much better when polling only Democrats, where just 36 percent want to see the president run again, with that juggernaut candidate named "someone else" coming in first with 44 percent support.

Oops, he did it again. Adam Schiff, D-Calif., is now running the same con against a fellow lawmaker. During a hearing Monday night on the riot at the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021, Adam Schiff claimed to have proof that a member of Congress texted former White House chief of staff Mark Meadows to instruct former Vice President Mike Pence to overturn the 2020 presidential election results.

Everyone’s understandably focused today on how Cheney embarrassed Trump Jr and the Fox News gang by reading their texts to Trump on January 6. Ed has a nice write-up about it here. But don’t miss the forest for the trees. The point Cheney was making isn’t that Fox News hosts are hypocrites, although they are. The point is that the president’s own family and allies were pleading with him while the riot was unfolding to do something, yet he did nothing — for hours. Everyone around him treated it like an emergency. Not him. Was that a crime? Watch the end of this clip, starting at around 3:00.

As has been clear for some time now, the fortunes of Joe Biden’s Build Back Better legislation and the state of the US economy are inextricably linked. With every bit of economic bad news, such as the worse-in-40-years inflation figures announced on Friday, the chances of the president securing 50 votes for his monster spending bill seem to fade. Today, Biden will meet Joe Manchin and try to win the West Virginia holdout round. But one suspects nothing the president says to Manchin would be as persuasive as some good economic news — in particular, an easing of the price rises that Manchin has long said are a major reason

Typical of the stories that have appeared in major news outlets is this howler from CNN’s Julian Zelizer, who insists that there is “a huge disconnect between the economic data and the way voters are feeling.” Anyone naïve enough to believe such balderdash will be disabused of their illusions by reading Friday’s Bureau of Labor Statistics report showing that the consumer price index (CPI) has risen by 6.8 percent

A U.S. district court in Georgia became the fourth court to enjoin a Biden administration vaccine mandate this week. As with the other trial and appellate courts, District Judge R. Stan Baker found that President Joe Biden had exceeded his authority in mandating the vaccine for all federal contractors. In the meantime, outgoing New York Mayor Bill de Blasio has ordered all private workers to be vaccinated. All of these mandates are on course for a showdown in the Supreme Court, where three justices have already expressed skepticism over the mandates. Biden issued an executive order on Sept. 9 that required contractors to ensure that their workers are vaccinated

Only Democrats voted in favor of the hike, with the final vote standing at 50 to 49, with one Republican abstaining. That meant there was no need for Vice President Kamala Harris to break a tie. Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer said on the floor Tuesday morning that the hike would allow the U.S. to borrow enough money to fund its expenses into 2023 - after the midterm elections.
