Gavin Newsom, the lily white, urbane, coiffed scion of San Francisco’s posh royalty, is California’s highest-ranking Democrat. He presides over a party that has taken progressive ideals beyond absurdity to the brink of tyranny, a socialist party that openly disparages whiteness and wealth. One would think that the party of Gavin Newsom is bent on destroying everything Gavin Newsom represents. So what’s going on?

In the late 70's, The Dead Kennedys had a song entitled, "California Uber Alles". Sadly (California native) it is no longer satire.

The author reminds of the time when Arnold Schwarzenegger needed Republican support and the party bigwigs abandoned him. McClintock, still licking his wounds, did what he had always done in California politics. Sit in his all-Republican district and make no alliances. Loyal only to Tom McClintock. He was so insular, I was amazed that he ended up being elected to Congress - but once again, it was a protected district. No chance he would be able to win a general election.
The Democrats in California appear to work a lot harder than most of the Republicans. Devin Nunes is our star now. There used to be many more.
Maybe good weather and beauty make some voters lazy? There are still 5 million Republicans here and nearly that many No Party Preference. Although the Democrats have more registered voters than the Republicans they do not have a statistical majority. The NPP voters were the key to Schwarzenegger’s being able to remove Gray Davis from the state capitol and keep evil Cruz Bustamanet out of it. But those “undecideds” need something to be excited about… Maybe the current tyranny will get their attention.

Is that a fancy way of saying "used car salesman in a bad neighborhood"?

FTA: "The problem, of course, was that the government does not operate in a competitive environment."
No, the problem was and is that government became part of the "competitive environment" we call "private enterprise." It took 20 years to gain control of the government tax and spend money machine. There are innumerable "XXX-industrial complexes" at work. Pick a "crisis" and you'll find hysteria that drives expansion, public and private, fueling cash flows into various pockets with the "crisis" never-ending and generally worsening. Take one: poverty, crime, education, affordable housing, healthcare, environment, "hate", traffic management, retirement savings, ad nauseum. The USA is always slipping from #1 in military strength, industrial output, STEM graduates... Add a few of your own.
This happens because people are largely ill-informed, pressed to conform by media and opinion shapers, surrounded by propaganda, from public service announcements to commercial advertising and mainstream news reporting. Watch your local TV news and there is as much time spent on the latest scare as on the weather. Turn on Oprah, Dr. Oz or any of the daytime talk shows and the scaremongers are everywhere...drink water, cleanse yourself, eat organic...and if you get sick, there must be some lawyer out there with a settlement for some quick cash for both of you.
The government is what it has become. And we helped make it that way. Our national wealth is our weakest link.
