Bryson DeChambeau's surge up the 2026 Open Championship leaderboard came to an abrupt halt when tournament officials assessed him a two-stroke penalty for a rules violation during Round 2, an R&A official confirmed on Friday, July 17.
DeChambeau had just finished what appeared to be a second consecutive resurgent round playing alongside Scottie Scheffler at Royal Birkdale, vaulting into second place behind leader Lucas Herbert when the post-round drama began to unfold.

Republican Sen. Lindsey Graham served in Congress for more than three decades, but public disclosure estimates show he died with a modest net worth compared to many of his longtime Washington colleagues. The senator died with a net worth of about $1.4 million, with congressional disclosures from May showing a lower-end estimate of just over $600,000 and an upper estimate of a little more than $2.2 million. Despite serving in Congress for 31 years, Graham ranked at 294th in wealth among the 535 voting members of Congress, according to data from the Quiver Quantitative.

Gov. Michelle Lujan-Grisham (D-NM) responded to Associated Press and Albuquerque Journal reports detailing that the Drug Enforcement Administration allowed just under two million fentanyl pills to "walk" into the United States in order to obtain “intelligence," from 2023 to 2025, primarily during the Biden-era. “Make no mistake: the DEA knew people would die if these pills made it into New Mexico communities, and the agency let it happen anyway,” Lujan-Grisham said in a statement, adding that "there are no words to describe how reckless and dangerous these decisions were."

In rapid succession, three blue states have followed California’s lead and moved to ban some of the most commonly owned handguns nationwide. Within the span of a single week, governors in Maryland, Connecticut, and New York signed sweeping measures targeting Glock pistols and similar firearms. Until now, only California had enacted such a categorical prohibition. The speed and similarity of these actions should alarm every law-abiding gun owner in the country.

The NCAA is still deliberating expanding March Madness on both the men's and women's sides to 76 teams for next season — a much-expected development that's been in the works for years. The NCAA released a brief statement Tuesday in the wake of an ESPN report that cited unnamed sources saying a decision to add eight teams to the bracket is a mere formality that's expected in May. "Expanding the basketball tournaments would require approval from multiple NCAA committees, including the men's and women's basketball committees, and no final recommendations or decisions have been made at this time," the statement said.

Basketball Hall of Famer Charles Barkley used a segment about UConn Huskies star Alex Karaban to go on a political rant during CBS’ broadcast of March Madness on Sunday.
CBS featured Karaban in a piece about his family. His mother, Olga, came to Massachusetts from Ukraine with her parents and grandparents in 1996. His father, Alexei, immigrated to the U.S. from Belarus on a work visa in 2001. After the segment aired, Barkley lamented the alleged treatment of legal immigrants. "I want to be careful with my words right now because this is a really touchy subject for me," he said.

Early Sunday morning will mark one week since Guthrie, 84, disappeared from her suburban Tucson home.
