Trying to Get Through to My Liberal Friends

Original Article

I have a couple of friends who are liberals -- not those liberals who have reached what I call “the incurable terminal stage.” Nor are they the psychotics who, the moment they are exposed to facts or viewpoints different from theirs become wild-eyed and hysterical. Even so, on certain topics their ability to reason seems to break down. A couple of months back, the issue of illegal aliens came up. They voiced the usual talking points on the topic: the aliens are just trying to build a better life, they pay taxes, only a few commit crimes, etc. They did not state they are being kidnapped and put in concentration camps.

Facts, truth, no provided evidence will ever convince them. I have fought the battle with kin for decades. The only ones who ever converted were victims of those they had defended. Even then they felt more betrayal than revelation. Per onhoeffer - no argument nor evience will convince them. They have to have the personal experience and realization to convert themselves

A hopeless process. As the author said, leftist need zero proof to believe a lie, but reject endless proof to reject the truth.

The underlying problem is that liberals are not searching for the truth. They want ''proof', no matter how flimsy, to validate their own views. Everything can contradicts their views can be safely dismissed.

It appears that they have a complete failure of the ability to learn from the experiences of others. A complete failure of their imagination. Doomed to be forced to learn all the bad sessions of life personally.

Cognitive dissonance and controlled primarily by feelings, and now with 10 years of TDS, all reinforced by legacy media. Good luck.

This is going to be one of my last dispatches about the upcoming Anti-Communist Film Festival this fall. Along with our sponsor, the Victims of Communism Foundation, we are going to show some movies and throw a party. For this post, I want to explore an idea that can be hard to confront. Namely, the question of whether God is allowing communism to flourish in America and the West as a way to teach us a lesson. To show us that life without God results in violence and catastrophe. In his 1948 book Communism and the Conscience of the West, Bishop Fulton Sheen

Peggy Flanagan is the far-left Lieutenant Governor of Minnesota. She has been present throughout Tim Walz’s disastrous tenure in office, but has left little mark. If she is known for anything, it is 1) being part Native American, and 2) holding down the farthest left position on the political spectrum. Flanagan is now running for Minnesota’s vacant seat in the U.S. Senate and, despite her radicalism (or on account of it) she has been endorsed by pretty much all the prominent Democrats, from Bernie Sanders to Ilhan Omar to current Senator Tina Smith. Flanagan has been a flamboyant leftist, appearing in a hijab…

I am beginning to obsess about the Los Angeles mayor's race. Not that I, in principle, care that much about Los Angeles. It was Ed's hometown, not mine. And given that it is in California, where degeneracy, fraud, and pooping in the street are considered by the political class a form of cultural enrichment, I just expect that elections are going to be won by sleazebags whose moral compass is provided by demons. But this mayor's race is different. Los Angeles residents have had the dangers of incompetence, graft, and overregulation literally burned into their memories in the most unforgettable way, and Spencer Pratt is

Not long ago, New York Gov. Kathy Hochul told New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani to handle his own mess. Now she's writing him a $4 billion check to bail him out. Mamdani had barely settled into Gracie Mansion before he discovered what socialists always find out: Eventually, you run out of other people's money. His grand campaign promises — you know: free this, universal that — ran headlong into the reality that New York City couldn’t afford all the things Mamdani had campaigned on. So, Mamdani went looking to Albany for a bailout. And, originally, Hochul said no. "The mayor and City Council need to work together, identify savings,

Jews are under assault in Mayor Madman’s New York City. Would you have the temerity to wear a mezuzah around your neck or a kipot on your head in public? Would you have the gall to gather for services at a local congregation? The New York Post reports “An anti-Israel mob clashed with counter-protesters near a Brooklyn synagogue on Monday night — less than a week after a similar demonstration rocked Manhattan.” The current Post headline refers to last week’s mob that materialized outside a Manhattan synagogue. The Post reported that story in “Hateful anti-Israel mob descends on historic NYC synagogue, clashes with cops in rowdy protest.” How rowdy

Last Thursday, RedState reported on the abrupt resignation of Charlotte, North Carolina, Mayor Vi Lyles (pictured above), effective June 30th, where she indicated it was time to spend more time with family. It was news that surprised many of the locals here because Lyles, a Democrat who has held the office since December 2017, is only six months into a two-year term. Health issues were floated by political observers as the reason for the decision. The 73-year-old Lyles had been notably absent from many official public functions, including zoning meetings, since her reelection and had also appeared confused, forgetful, and repetitive at the ones she did attend.

A recent study by Portmann and colleagues (Observational constraints project a ~50% AMOC weakening by the end of this century - PMC) warns of yet another impending “climate disaster.” The study predicts that the Atlantic Meridional Overturning Circulation (AMOC), a key component of thermohaline circulation, will weaken approximately 50 percent by the end of the century. If true or grounded in solid evidence, it would be quite alarming because the AMOC drives warm water from the tropics and subtropics into the North Atlantic and Arctic. This immense “heat pump” moderates the climates of western Europe to a large degree, keeping it much warmer than inland counterparts at comparable latitudes.

Last Friday night at Camden Yards, the Baltimore Orioles had a Tupac Shakur bobblehead night. You remember Tupac? The notorious “gangsta” rapper who was killed in a 1996 drive-by in Las Vegas? Yes, that Tupac, whose life involved gangs, guns, killing, and hard time for sexual abuse. So much for family-friendly nights at the old ballpark. Wholesomeness doesn’t put butts in seats like honoring a dead thug -- not in gang-plagued Baltimore, anyway. Paying homage to Tupac seems fitting for Baltimore, a dilapidating city scarred by all sorts of crime. Kudos to Orioles’ execs who dreamt up the promo. They certainly know their market. The giveaway was wildly successful. Expected demand

The point of a republic isn’t to enforce all the most brilliant ideas. It’s to not let one arrogant and selfish group bulldoze all the others. It’s the belief that if any group oversteps its boundaries, the pain itself (and the ensuing anger) should lead the other people to fix it. In other words, the real question, today, in our republic, is whether stupid people should be allowed to cheat. Gerrymandering is cheating. And our states have been gerrymandered badly for a long time — most usually to benefit Democrats. But when Texas accused Democrats of leaving the border open, thus flooding Texas with illegal aliens

Kristof’s column was published the day before the appearance of the report of Israel’s specially appointed Civil Commission on Crimes by Hamas against Women and Children. Silenced No More set forth the commission’s findings of Hamas’s systematic use of sexual violence, rape, and “kinocide” (systematic targeting and destruction of families) during and after 10/7 attack. Kristof purported to report a scandal shaming Israeli authorities. The scandal appears to be of the backfiring kind.

But for every action there is a reaction, and the leftists are really going to shriek over this one. You see, Tennessee House Speaker Cameron Sexton (R) just yanked all their committee assignments. WASHINGTON — The Congressional Black Caucus, a power center in the Democratic Party for decades, saw its membership rise this Congress to an all-time high of 58 House members. Now, thanks to a Supreme Court redistricting ruling that’s expected to dramatically diminish Black representation on Capitol Hill, the CBC is fighting a five-alarm fire that could devastate its membership. CBC Chair Yvette Clarke, D-N.Y., said as many as 19 of the caucus’ members could be affected by the redistricting wars in a worst-case scenario, though she noted it’s still fluid given that states are still drawing new maps in the

Louisiana Supreme Court ruling, South Carolina’s Republican-controlled Senate rejected moving ahead with a redistricting plan that would have likely unseated the state’s sole Democrat in Congress, Rep. This was short of the necessary two-thirds threshold, with five Republican senators defecting.

Several Frontier Airlines passengers suffered minor injuries over the weekend when their plane, departing from the Denver airport, struck a person trespassing on the runway. That person was killed after being hit by the plane's engine, which caused an explosion and fire that aborted the takeoff. That man has now been identified, which is raising questions about whether this was a sinister act, given his extensive criminal history. Authorities said Michael Mott, 41, was the man hit by the plane on May 9. Mott has been arrested 20 times previously, including for attempted murder. He was most recently arrested about a month before he trespassed at the Denver airport.
