The Trump Administration has requested $152 million in its fiscal year 2027 federal budget proposal to refurbish and reopen Alcatraz as a prison. President Donald Trump first broached the idea of reopening the prison on Alcatraz Island in the San Francisco Bay in May 2025, but with the administration’s release of its budget proposal to Congress he is looking to put his plan in motion. Alcatraz was closed in 1963 after 30 years as an active prison that has become famous for its former inmates and stories of attempted escapes, but has long been a popular tourist attraction that sees more than one million people per year visit the island,

Why not? It has been a good symbol of "no escape" prison, and would be a good location, it seems.

Sounds like the perfect place to dump every gang thug the cops pick up. Defense Attorneys can pick up the "guide" for "safe navigation" along with some Shark Repellent whenever they go out there to speak with their clients. Oh, and all you Attorney's, don't forget to take advantage of the (optional) bulletproof bodywear. For an additional charge Defense Attorney's can obtain "Lock-Down Insurance" with a special "Extraction Rider" in the unlikely event of prisoner unrest. Training is required to achieve proficiency in donning the harness attached to the Helicopter Winch Extraction Mechanism. /s

Reopening Alcatraz as a prison would cost much more than it would be worth. Open a Florence, CO #2 instead.

Fiscally I agree with #5. Yet symbolically I would prefer reopening Alcatraz. The name alone evokes a visceral reaction. I would support gutting all the old buildings but keeping the historically menacing facade. The new interior would be modern supermax style. It would be a monumental and expensive task, but who better to do this than our master builder president?

Get ALL the funds from Minnesota fraud clawback or any of the many DOGE cuts some scumball judge didn't allow. In fact, make sure that every scum judge with a blatant conflict of interest, like a daughter making money from his harassment of Trump, is sent there.

I remember being station in the Bay Area while in the Navy during the mid 90s. I took all kinds of tours and visited many of the famous landmarks there. Notably the Golden Gate Bridge, Lombard Streets and the Trans America Building. I really did like going to Alcatraz and seeing the prison. I say it high time to modernize it and make it another symbol that we aren't putting up with crime and criminals in my country.

President Donald Trump’s deputies directed more low-profile enforcement operations this weekend to remove many illegal migrants from U.S. worksites. The surprise worksite operations make it difficult for well-funded pro-migration groups — including left-wing, business, and media groups — to create the TV-magnified chaos that unnerves swing-voting citizens. In Armstrong County, Pennsylvania, ICE invited illegal-migrant truck drivers to renew their Commercial Driver’s Licenses at a local licensing office and promptly arrested 13 who turned up. WTAE reported that ICE arrested “13 illegal aliens from countries including Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, and Turkmenistan.” One migrant assaulted a local officer, ICE added. In Washington State, ICE agents arrested other migrants who attended appointments at federal offices.

The leader of a trade group that represents most major automakers called on the federal government to eliminate its gasoline tax and replace it with a vehicle fee to finance road infrastructure needs. Alliance for Automotive Innovation CEO John Bozzella, whose group represents automakers such as General Motors, Toyota, Volkswagen, Hyundai and other leading car manufacturers, put forward a proposal that urged the federal government to address the growing shortfall in the Highway Trust Fund with a vehicle fee. The proposal would function like a vehicle registration fee that’s assessed on all vehicles based on their weight, and was first reported by Reuters. It comes as the federal government’s

Virginia's diversity, equity and inclusion office has a new lease on life with a radical boss and millions of taxpayer dollars flowing in. Dr. Sesha Moon now leads Virginia’s Office of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion after Democratic Gov. Abigail Spanberger appointed her in December, returning the agency to its woke roots despite Republican efforts to reform it. Virginia’s latest budget dedicates more than $1.8 million to the DEI office annually for fiscal years 2025 and 2026. The $1.8 million is larger than the annual budget for “Governmental Affairs Services” and “Intergovernmental Relations” in the governor’s office. It is also larger than the funding for

Ibáñez is a member of Compromís, a leftist Valencian regionalism coalition. The lawmaker stressed to Europapress that limiting Spain’s tourism industry is necessary, as he believes it has already made it “impossible to live” in cities like Alicante or Valencia. Europapress reports that Ibáñez recently submitted a request to the Spanish Congress to establish a parliamentary subcommittee to analyze the impact of tourism on people’s quality of life.

“How about offering an award for being an illegal immigrant? No sane country would do that.” That is not a quote from President Donald Trump or Justice Sam Alito; it is a quote from the late Democrat icon Sen. Harry Reid (D-Nevada) back in 1993. Some of the same Democrats aggressively defending the modern warped definition of birthright citizenship were opposed to it a few decades ago, before it became Democrat Party dogma that cheap labor and illicit votes were more important than anything else, and that illegal immigration was therefore sacred. Leaving aside all of the many reasons to criticize Harry Reid’s career, he laid out the case against

The lawsuit, filed in U.S. District Court in New Jersey, alleges that Morris Township’s natural gas ban "denies consumers reliable, resilient, and affordable energy, as well as the use of commonplace gas appliances for cooking, heating, and other household needs" and "weakens our nation’s energy dominance." "The Township’s gas ban is not only bad policy, it is also unlawful."
