Honda Just Lost Billions on EVs It Can't Sell

Japanese automaker Honda just cancelled the production of three planned made-in-the-U.S.A. electric cars, including the 0-Series SUV, the 0-Series Saloon, and the Acura RSX — and the company says it will write off massive losses as a result. Still, better than building EVs nobody wants to buy. The company said the EVs had to go to avoid future losses, complaining about the “current business environment where the demand for EVs is declining significantly.” I follow these things, and I'd somehow never even heard of Honda's 0-Series vehicles — assuredly for "zero emissions" — introduced at the 2024 Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, and were

We are in the market for a new car. It will be another Honda CRV, all gas engine. Not sure what Honda saw in their useless Evs, but stupid is as stupid does. Honda got sucked in buy the dim and msm noise that EVs had a future here. Evs don't.

Re #1. Beware to small displacement turbo motors that Honda has been replacing their good old normally aspirated engines with. I had a 2015 Accord and planned on keeping it until about now. When I discovered that ALL new Hondas were going to have much smaller motors pumped up with turbos....I quickly called a Honda salesman who had sold me several cars. I asked for a new 2017 Accord, in late 2017 when mostly 2018s were in the pipeline. He was able to find one in Nebraska, but no choice of color or options, beyond my required manual transmission. I'm driving that 2017 now, and hope it lasts until these damned turbo motors get washed out of the system and good, reliable, durable normally aspirated motors are again available.

Bankruptcy is what companies that ignore their customers' wishes get. Listening to foolish government mandates can be fatal to the bottom line. Green policy has pretty much ruined several of the world's largest automobile manufacturers. Honda Motor Company may have awoken in time to save their future. I hope so, because Honda makes good products. (I still drive a 2003 Honda S2000.) Toyota, to their credit, never went very far down the electric car rabbit hole. They may be the healthiest of the car companies. Never, ever listen to the Luddite Al Gore!

The EV car motors probably make good power plants for shop tools, or good for pumps or air movers too. I bet they are a small fraction of the cost of made-to-purpose motors. I like to play around with things like that. I know! A conveyor system to get firewood into my shed! Or even a compost sifter. Or, heh, heh, a go-cart.

The first six days of war in Iran cost U.S. taxpayers at least $11.3 billion in munitions alone, according to Pentagon estimates reviewed by lawmakers, and experts say the final cost will only increase. That total does not include the cost of operating and maintaining the military force engaged in the war or battle damage sustained from Iran’s attacks. The military used about $5.6 billion in munitions in the first two days of the conflict, according to a person with knowledge of the estimate. The munitions cost was first reported by The Washington Post. The money spent on munitions, and the added expense of any damage done to U.S. military infrastructure

All classes have been canceled at Old Dominion University in Virginia after an active shooter was "neutralized" in the area, officials announced. Shortly before 10:49 a.m., a gunman in Constant Hall opened fire and injured two people, according to university spokesperson Jonah Grinkewitz. Campus police, the Norfolk Police Department and emergency personnel responded and the gunman is now dead, Grinkewitz said. The injured have been transported to a local hospital. The Norfolk Police Department confirmed they were on scene responding to the "active incident" at the school on social media. "As of 11:43 a.m., there is no longer a threat at Old Dominion University,"

For years, the British £5 note has carried the face of Winston Churchill. The wartime prime minister who rallied Britain during its darkest hour has stared out from wallets and cash registers across the country, a constant reminder of the man who helped lead Britain through World War II. Now the Bank of England is considering scrapping that tradition. And what might replace one of Britain’s most consequential leaders says quite a lot about where parts of the country’s cultural establishment think Britain should be headed. Animals. Plants. Landscapes. Not the people who shaped the nation’s history. Wildlife. The idea surfaced after the Bank of England asked the public what themes they

Every new military technology, every new weapon, sooner or later, was countered by some other new weapon or technology. Armor was rendered obsolete by the musket. Castle walls were rendered obsolete by cannons. Battleships were rendered obsolete by aircraft carriers. Today, drones are one piece of new tech that military forces around the world are still learning how to employ, and how to defend against. And now, there's a new counter: A rifle-mounted drone-killer device. A new chapter in counter-drone defense begins as Nuburu’s Lyocon subsidiary completes initial trials of a next-gen, portable non-kinetic laser system

I’m sorry — not sorry — that I like to see the good guys win. I live in a blue state where criminals are coddled and let right back onto the streets minutes after committing violent crimes. When I go to a movie, I am not interested in some Hollywood slop about the nuances of criminals and murderers — I want to see the hero take them out and crush Evil. Leftists would almost certainly call me simple-minded, but a quick look at decades of box office receipts shows that I am hardly alone. Sometimes it's satisfying to see thugs get what’s coming to them, the consequences they’ve earned through their brutality

And he is deeply disturbed that evangelicals aren't flocking to this creep and embracing him as the most Christian guy on earth. Schrödinger's Cat is both (or is it neither?) alive and/or dead, but exists in an undetermined state inside a closed box along with a single radioactive atom, a Geiger counter, a hammer, and a vial of poison gas, because there's nothing weirder than a bored physicist. The point of Erwin Schrödinger's Gedankenexperiment (thought experiment) was to highlight the absurdity of quantum superposition, where subatomic particles can exist in multiple states at once until measured by conscious human beings. The radioactive element might (or might not) decay at any given moment, activating the Geiger counter that's rigged to a hammer that smashes the vial filled with cyanide gas.

On Monday night, Scott Jennings asked a simple question to a CNN panel, and it got me thinking. And what I thought about was quite disturbing. The Department of Homeland Security has been shut down since Presidents' Day weekend. Democrats triggered it, and they've kept it going as a pressure campaign against the Trump administration's deportation agenda, specifically to hamstring Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and use that as a cudgel to force policy changes in enforcement, most of which are absurd. The Senate voted three separate times on DHS funding bills, and each time, Democrats blocked them — every single one, with the lone exception of Sen. John Fetterman (D-Pa.).

Back in February, the U.K. said dogs were an obstacle to its latest diversity scheme, namely turning the "too white" English countryside into a more "diverse" (read: Islamic) place to live. Not long after, a Muslim in New York said she was glad the city was "coming to Islam" when it came to dogs. Islam believes dogs are filthy and they're haram in many places, of course. But people in the West love their dogs, and the pet industry in the U.K. makes over £10 billion. In the U.S., that figure is $157 billion for 2025. Most of that is driven by dog ownership, so of course the politicians can't come

Political commentator Meghan McCain has built a career that began with a powerful advantage: her last name. The daughter of late Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.), stepped into the national political conversation for decades because of her father's legacy. Meghan McCain never hid that connection, and she's defended her father's record with fierce loyalty since he died in 2018. Despite my thoughts about Meghan, her loyalty deserves respect; a daughter defending her father is hardly controversial, while she protects what she believes was an honorable legacy tied to her father's military service and Senate career. McCain, however, found his political decisions drifted away from conservative principles

Iran could use drones to make a deadly strike on California at any time, a top US Army expert says — and we’re nowhere near ready for what could happen. Iranian forces have the technology, the ability and the motivation to launch withering drone attacks on targets in California, according to Brett Velicovich, a former US Army intelligence and special operations soldier who spent years using drones to hunt and kill the leaders of ISIS and other terrorist groups. Velicovich said America’s enemy is almost certainly trying to launch an attack on Californian shores with the use of drones. The FBI’s warning to local law enforcement,

I believe wholeheartedly in Americans, the greatness of this country and the strength of our democratic republic – especially when it comes to elections. But I might be alone in this. According to a March NPR/PBS News/Marist Poll, Americans' confidence in fair elections has actually dropped: 34% of Americans have little or no confidence in their elections, up from 24% since 2024. This is why it's so disappointing to see Congress fail over and over to pass the Safeguard American Voter Eligibility Act, also known as the SAVE Act or the SAVE America Act.
